In 1985 an unprecedented collaboration of recording artists created this benefit project for African famine relief. Now 25 years later the recording industry has stepped up again with a remake of this powerful anthem to aid therelief efforts for Haiti. Maja S. K. Ratkje's Tale Of Lead And Frozen Light for String Orchestra. Full score. Based on the String Quartet Tale of Lead and Light (2011). The original String Quartet was written in the aftermath of the events in Oslo and Utoya July 2011. A source of musical inspiration is Beethoven's “Quartet Op. 59 No. 1.” The ambiguity in the title reflects both hope and dread. Beethoven's light shines through strong and full of life!

Written by jazz composer and violinist Martin Norgaard Calypso is based on rhythms and singable melodies inspired by music of the Caribbean. An optional solo section can be opened up to feature as many of your students as desired and solo sheets are provided for all instruments to help teach basic elements of improvisation along with an included sample solo. This work was arranged for the Myers Park Repertory Orchestra. The concerto is the third from the set of opus 3 concerti titled L'estro Harmonico ('The Harmonic Inspiration'). The work originally for solo violin and orchestra has been adapted for 1st violins and ripieno parts distributed amongst the 2nd violins violas and basso continuo.
