Depicting some of the composer's favorite legends of the Middle East Arabian Dreams is written in several sections. Beginning with imagery suggesting a fiery sunrise the piece is soft and reflective in nature. Becoming more animated it quickly progresses into the faster pace of market life before culminating in a magnificent ride on a galloping horse through a desert oasis. Soon Hee Newbold at her best!

Mozart's Requiem in D Minor is a sublime work. The Kyrie is a masterful lesson in fugal writing, requiring the students to 'count like crazy.' Every section of the orchestra plays the syncopated entries, tied rhythms, and running sixteenth note passages. The tempo can be slightly adjusted to suit the technical ability of the ensemble. Eighth notes should be slightly separated, whilst 16th notes are played detaché. This arrangement would make an interestingly contrasted concert item with Loreta Fin's arrangement of the beautiful 'Lacrymosa' from the same Requiem (76-44507). / Orchestre A Cordes

British composer Michael Nyman ‘discovered’ this work when he played Leporello’s catalogue aria from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni on the Piano in the style of Jerry Lee Lewis. He has written that that musical discovery ‘dictatedthe dynamic articulation and texture of everything I’ve subsequently done’. The work is based on the first sixteen bars of the Catalogue Aria with thrusting rhythmic propulsion and repeated double stops for all instrumentsproduced within a short thrilling time frame.
