Wernick's String Quartet No. 7 was given its world premiere by the esteemed Juilliard String Quartet in Philadelphia, PA, November 2008. These same performers then gave the New York premiere in April 2009 in the Alice Tully Hall, as part of their final New York appearance of the season. From the Juilliard press release: Mr. Wernick describes the format of the work: 'The Seventh String Quartet features a four-voice mensuration [measured] canon that spins out over a span of about ten minutes followed by a homophonic coda in which the proportional relationship is no longer from voice to voice, but from chord to chord..

Streichquartett Le jardin suspendu (Der hangende Garten) eroffnete den Reigen mehrerer um das gleiche Tonmaterial schweigender Stucke: Der Ton cis, der aus der Tiefe bis zum hochsten Diskant aufsteigt, bildet die wie ein Magnet wirksame Zentrale harmonisch-klangfarblichen Gestaltens. Auf ein in dramatischem Duktus gehaltenes Klangstruktur-Thema antwortet eine gregorianisch anmutende Urformel, aus der sich eine Art 2. Thema herausschalt, das im Durchfuhrungsmittelteil wieder zu seinem pentatonischen Kern zusammenschrumpft, jetzt aber sich polytempisch - im Sinne von Visionen, aber auch Halluzinationen - als Formel darstellt, die von inneren (virtuellen) Bedrohungen erzahlt , die zum Ende hin ins Uberirdische sich zu verandern sucht.(Theo Brandmuller)

“In diesem Augenblick” (In This Moment) is the first work for string quartet by the Chinese composer Yang Lin, born in Beijing in 1982. The work was given its world premiere in November 2010 by the Amaryllis Quartet at the Laeizshalle in Hamburg. “In diesem Augenblick” is concerned with the brief moment between two events, comparable with the interval between two steps whilst walking: “This brief moment, this motion in detail that one does not usually notice, has been given a great deal of attention. But it does not mean that this moment stops. There remains a contradictory moment that remembers the tensions and vibrations of the past an, at the same time, awaits the peace of the future.” (Yang Lin).
