Each piece has been easily arranged for String Quartet by Watson Forbes and is designed to givedeveloping string players the chance to rehearse and perform in ensemble as early as possible. Each work is well known and relatively straightforward enabling the musicians to obtain a sense of achievement and maximum enjoymentfrom their playing.Watson Forbes (1909-1997) was a British Viola player arranger and broadcaster. He studied both Violin and Viola at the Royal Academy of Music before specialising on the Viola with Sevcik. Heplayed with many famous string ensembles during his performing career before becoming Head of Music for BBC Scotland in 1964. His is best remembered for his extensive series of educational arrangements of classical music forvarious string instruments both solo and in ensemble.

This is a fun collection of seven String Quartet arrangements of famous pieces of music including Debussy's 'Cake walk' and the aria 'In the depths of the temple' from Bizet's 'The Pearl Fishers'. The arrangements feature prominent Viola parts (and very good 2nd Violin parts too!) and were created by Maxine Komlos with assistance by Danny Glancy as a result of most composers only giving the Viola occasional short solos in their works.
