Verdi wrote his Requiem in 1874. It has been called one of the greatest operas ever because of its passion and lyricism. The exciting Sanctus movement is also an 8-part double fugue based on the inversion of the melody from Libera Me.

Symphonie Fantastique was written in 1830 as one of the first program symphonies in musical history. The Witches' Sabbath is the fifth and final movement tells the story of the author himself amongst a hideous gathering of sorcerers, monsters and witches who have come together for his funeral. The original melody from the first movement is now a vulgar and grotesque dance. Berlioz also combines the Dies irae melody to strike even more fear into the listener.

This arrangement of about 10 minutes in length by Randall Malmstrom is a full transcription of the movement and is appropriate for advanced performers.

BIG RIFF is a new work by John Frith for 8-part Trombone Ensemble. It was written as the opening Anthem for Trombonanza 2017, which is a festival takes place annually in the town of Santa Fe, Argentina.
Mr. Frith was commissioned to compose this work to open the Festival.
The music is about 5 minutes in length and features strong Latin rhythms throughout. The work builds and builds as it adds layers of complexities including a jazz solo for one of the players.
The all the middle parts are playable by intermediate performers. Part 1 can be performed on alto or tenor and goes up to high f's. Part 8 is quite low.
The work ends in a big climax after building up throughout. Very fun work to perform with a massed group.

The well-known Maple Leaf Rag is one of Joplin's early works, written in 1899. It has been recorded by countless artists and has come back into the mainstream after the Ragtime revival of the 1970's.

Joplin lived and performed for a while in Sedalia, Missouri, working at the Maple Leaf Club, from where some believe the work got its name.

Having written over five hundred choral works, Salvation is Created, written in 1914, is perhaps Pavel Chesnokov's most famous. Yet ironically, it was one of his very last sacred works before he was forced to secular composition by the new Soviet government. This beautiful arrangement by James Tranquilla of iTromboni brings together a beautiful communion hymn based on Kievan chant with an added homage to Rimsky-Korsakov's great Russian Easter Overture solo. Samuel Scheidt's Galliard Battaglia, composed around 1621 and popularized by the Canadian Brass, has become one of the most recognized works in the brass quintet repertoire. This secular work was originally written for five viols. The Galliard dance style, very popular at the time serves as a perfect foil for the music's echoing back-and-forth fanfares and brilliant scales.

The March from the Second Suite in F for Military Band (Op. 28, No. 2) by Gustav Holst is a staple of the concert band repertoire. Andrew Poirier has masterfully arranged this band classic for trombone quintet (alto, 3 tenor, bass), complete with optional euphonium solo as in Holst's original. This English folk song laden gem of about 4 1/2 minutes is sure to delight audiences and is suitable for advanced performers.
