Bozza (1905-1991) was a brilliant student at the Paris Conservatoire winning prizes for the Violin conducting and composing as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He predominantly composed chamber music for wind but his solo works for the instruments are also held in high esteem such as his Ballade for Trombone and Piano. This Bozza piece was originally composed for conservatoire students displaying the technical skills as well as musicality of the soloist. There is no formal structure to Ballade however the many changes in tempo provide variety throughout. With no distinct musical theme unifying the music it is interesting to note that much of the material of Bozza's Ballade is extracted from orchestral excerpts. Ballade is an ideal performance piece for advanced trombonists.

The second half of the work is a rapid Allegro theme (tempo 144-152) followed by a slower part and the Allegro theme played again “a tempo” before introducing the close in harmonies. Joseph Edouard Barat (1882-1963) composed numerous pieces for Wind instruments and Pianoaccompaniment such as 'Andante and Allegro' or 'Introduction and Dance' among many others.

Composed by Paul Véronge De La Nux  Solo De Concours is a piece for Trombone and Piano accompaniment initially written for the the Paris Conservatoire contest. It is ideal to demonstrate the abilities of upper-intermediate players. The beginning by the Piano sounds slightly dramatic but the piece turns out to be really melodious with a hint of nostalgia. A second part is then introduced fierceful stronger and faster with the Trombone Solo. The Piano then joins the Trombone for the last part quite demanding with a faster rhythm and long phrases. The music sounds more cheerful and leads to a harmonious end. The piece lasts between five and six minutes. Paul Véronge de la Nux (1853-1911) was a French composer. This work was commissioned by Professor James Watson for the brass faculty of the Royal Academy of Music London. It was composed between January and May 2007. The first performance was given on 12 June 2008 by Blair Sinclair (to whom the work is dedicated) and Timothy End.
