Fortuna for trumpet and piano came about as a commission by the Belgian trumpeter Manu Mellaerts. The title of the work refers to the goddess Fortuna of Roman mythology, who represents fate and fortune. The composition is characterised by its modern but by no means avant-garde tonal language, with which composer Jan Hadermann creates a wide variety of musical expression. Set includes 2 Scores and Trumpet part The Mystic Trumpeter (2018) for speaker, trumpet, and piano was commissioned by Edward Hull for Barbara Hull. The piece is based on the poem of the same name by the American poet Walt Whitman (1819â??1892). The poem was first published in 1872 and appeared in a later edition of his seminal collection Leaves of Grass. In this musical work, the poem is recited by spoken voice, and the tableaux that it presents are reflected in music for trumpet and piano. Each section of Whitmanâ??s poem sees the trumpeter in a different context. Likewise, the musical moods vary dramatically, though there are connections of motive that run throughout them all. û¿Zatten was commissioned in 2005 by Trumpeter Paul Neebe during the composer's vacation to do ancestral research in the town of Zatten, currently part of Poland.Roger Petrich writes the following about his Zatten Concerto for Trumpet:The 'DNA' of this compostion tracks back to my great-grandfather and the tiny Plattdeutsch village where he was born. Zatten, [then] located in the eastern part of Berlin/Brandenburg is in an area of forest and small farms dating back to the 1600's. My grandfather R. T. Petrich, whose initials I bear, was six years old when he, along with his parents, sister, and older brother left Prussia to start a new life in the USA.My own childhood memories include many visits to the family homestead in Dakota Territory, where I used to play in the barn which hosted many summer dances. The Dakota sky was vast by day, and nights could become magical with the addition of the Northern Lights. Though not a professional musician, my father kept up his trumpet playing all his life. In a special way it was his voice - a sound that deeply imprinted all my growing up years. All of this is mixed together in my Zatten ConcertoThe Zatten Concerto is in three movements, the two outer movements faster and the middle is a Largo. This work is appropriate for advanced performers.The title Zatten (the name of the small village in Germany where his family was located before immigrating to the USA) is spelled out in Morse Code in the very opening eight bars of the work. The Concerto is originally written for Trumpet and String Orchestra, this version using a reduction for Piano.

Though born in the Netherlands, composer Marinus de Jong (1891 - 1984) traded his Dutch citizenship for a Belgian one in 1926, and is considered one of Belgium's most prominent composers and pianists of the 20th century. He began his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp, Belgium, at the age of 15, studying under Lodewijk Mortelmans and Emile Bosquet. His Concerto for Trumpet, Op. 49 (Concerto voor trompet), published by Metropolis Music Publishers in 1959, is in three movements: Allegro giusto, Poco lento, Allegro vivo (a la Rumba). A dazzling and virtuosic piece, included with the score are parts for both B-flat and C Trumpet.

If there was ever a composer in the modern era from whom instrumentalists would hanker for a sonata or concerto, Richard Strauss must be right up there. His wide-ranging orchestral and operatic creations bleed with gloriously idiomatic writing for every instrument, and yet only the piano, violin, clarinet (in tandem with the bassoon), oboe and horn can really claim to have bespoke solo works from the composer's seamlessly productive pen, and collectively they form only a small proportion of the composer's output. No mere transcription, this three-movement Sonata after Richard Strauss extends well beyond a redeployment of the composer's music to fit a new idiom, filling the gaping chasm of 'serious' late-Romantic recital material for trumpet players, to be performed in toto or as Drei Konzertstücke. Thomas Oehler and Jonathan Freeman-Attwood have drawn on a wide range of Strauss's works to create the new offering, including the Violin Sonata, Von den Hinterweltlern (Also sprach Zarathustra), the Serenade for Winds ('From an invalid's workshop') and Zerbinetta's Aria (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Starting with an introduction ?Allegro?, this melodious piece is divided into three main parts: ?Andantino?, ?Allegro Vivace? and ?Allegretto?. The first part features a Cadenza, while the second, more lyrical, includes some sections with the sourdine. The last part is more syncopated and more rhythmic before the harmonious finale. Born in France in 1932, Roger Boutry received numerous prizes, including those for Piano, Composition and Conducting. He received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954. His career was quite successful, alternating between Harmony professor, composer and conductor. He also received numerous prizes for his amazing compositions..
