La scène musicale a pris connaissance d'Erik Satie (1866-1925) tout d'un coup: La première mondiale de son ballet 'Parade' sur le 18 mai 1917 [siehe dt. Texte!] A causé tout un scandale. La production qui a impliqué Sergey Diaghilev avec son 'Ballets Russes', Pablo Picasso (décors et costumes), Jean Cocteau (histoire) ainsi que Léonide Massine (chorégraphie) divise la scène musicale de Paris, mais a fait le compositeur bien connu. Satie qui avait à peine eu une solide formation musicale et vécu à Paris pendant presque toute sa vie au point un nouveau style musical, le rejet délibéré de la 'Wagnérisme' de son temps. Les modèles classiques de forme, de nouvelles harmonies, la facilité stylistique, méditatif et éléments clownesques amalgamés d'une façon originale, l'exemple parfait étant ses '3 Gymnopédies 'de 1888, le premier a été ici disposées pour un instrument solo avec accompagnement de piano: Ainsi, il est désormais possible, même pour les non-pianistes, de jouer à ce célèbre miniature par Satie. Merci à sa jouabilité facile, il peut également être utilisé à des fins éducatives. / Alto Et Piano

Brahms had already announced his ?retirement' from composition when in the spring of 1894 he played chamber music with the cellist Robert Hausmann and the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld. This encounter apparently renewed his enthusiasm for Mühlfeld's much admired playing and inspired him to write two clarinet sonatas in the summer of the same year. It remains unclear when exactly Brahms drafted viola parts to his two sonatas. In any case the viola and clarinet versions of the works were first published by Simrock at the same time in 1895. Today there is no doubt about Brahms' authorship of the viola parts. They include important differences from the clarinet original in order to do justice to this string instrument.An important part of this edition is the extensive preface. Firstly it informs about the sonatas' origins, their compositional process, pre-publication performances, their publication history as well as early reception. Truly remarkable is the unique Performance Practice Commentary. Here the editors start from the premise that already a few decades after Brahms' death, a widening gulf developed between the composer's expectations and the performance practices of the early 20th century. On the basis of manifold sources which include memoirs by pupils and chamber music partners, treatises and essays, early instructive editions and historical recordings, the editors deal with key issues in understanding Brahms' notation. Tout comme Brahms dans son opus 120, Reger prévit pour sa Sonate op. 107 deux instruments solistes différents: 'Je vais arranger la partie de clarinette pour l'alto également, afin que l'on puisse également exécuter la pièce sous cette forme' (lettre à son éditeur). Il ne voulait en aucun cas laisser l'aménagement de la partie d'alto à la maison d'édition, car il fallait changer ici ou là quelques liaisons et octavier certains passages - 'je suis le seul à pouvoir faire ce travail!' La tessiture médiane très sonore de l'alto est proche des sonorités de la clarinette, mais confère toutefois à l'oeuvre un coloris tout particulier. Satz der Sonate op. 11 Die zweibändige Ausgabe unter dem Titel ?Miriam's Song' (Das Lied der Mirjam) ist jüdischen Komponistinnen des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts gewidmet. Sie beinhaltet Viola-Bearbeitungen der Werke von Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn, Vally Weigl, Lena Stein-Schneider und Ruth Schonthal (Band 1). Das von Schonthal aufgenommene Allegro moderato ist eine Originalkomposition für Viola und Klavier. Im 2. Band begegnen wir den Komponistinnen Helene Liebmann und Sarah Feigin. Der Titel der Ausgabe bezieht sich auf die Rolle der Prophetin Mirjam, der älteren Schwester von Mose und Aaron. Beim Auszug des israelischen Volkes aus Ägypten führte sie nach der Durchquerung des Schilfmeeres den Freudentanz und Gesang der Frauen an (2. Buch Mose 15,20-21). Bezeichnenderweise hat der Berliner Maler Wilhelm Hensel im 19. Jahrhundert seine Frau, die Komponistin Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn, als Mirjam porträtiert.Das Repertoire romantischer Konzertliteratur für Viola ist recht begrenzt. Fanny Hensel traute sich nicht, ihre Werke zu publizieren, Vally Weigl und Ruth Schonthal mussten wegen der Nazis emigrieren, Lena Stein wurde durch eine Schweizer Delegation aus Theresienstadt befreit, Helene Liebmann änderte 1820 in Berlin wegen antisemitischer Repressalien ihren Namen auf Liebelt und Sarah Feigin wanderte 1972 von Lettland nach Israel aus.Die für Violine, Violoncello oder Klarinette mit Klavier geschriebenen Stücke in mäßiger Schwierigkeit eignen sich vorzüglich für die Bratsche. Gefühlvoll: Adagio von Hensel und Nocturno von Stein. Kurzweilig: Old Time Burlesque von Weigl und Reflection on a Niggun von Feigin. Oder Sätze aus Sonaten: Das fließende Allegro moderato von Schonthal und die anspruchsvollen Variationen über la ci darem la mano von Liebmann. Arrangement for Viola and Piano. Par DVORAK ANTONIN. “Sooner or later the “Romantic Pieces” will pave their way through all the salons”: thus the periodical Dalibor predicted when the “Romantic Pieces” op. 75 were first issued by the publisher Simrock in 1887. Since then they have become some of Dvorák’s most popular works for violin and piano. Now they are being made available for violists also. Bella and Semjon Kalinowsky have arranged the four pieces on the basis of the “Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvorák”. The piano part of the original version remains, while the violin part has been adapted for viola; it has been transcribed into the alto clef and includes fingering and bowing marks. With theirentrancing melodies and poetry, these pieces pose few technical challenges and are thus easy to play./ Répertoire / Alto et Piano

En grec ' amicalement ', Philikos a été composé en amical hommage à l'altiste Jean-François Benatar, à l'occasion de son départ en retraite. La formation en sextuor, alto solo et quintette d'altos, provient de la création par son successeur en solo et cinq de ses anciens étudiants. La pièce est une suite de variations sur deux thèmes : le premier est le sujet de la fugue de la Musique pour cordes, percussion et célesta de Bartok (exposée à l'alto) et le deuxième est bâti sur les lettres composant le nom de Jean-François Benatar selon la notation musicale allemande. / Alto Et Piano
