Joseph Haydn's Stabat Mater, written in 1767, was the first church work the composer wrote after entering the service of Prince Esterhazy in Eisenstadt. Unlike almost all his other sacred works, it soon circulated in numerous copies and established Haydn's reputation as the leading vocal composer of his day. This edition is based on three original copies of parts, which are regarded as being particularly close to the (missing) autograph manuscript because of the date they were made and the reliable transmission of the music text. As so, this great, moving setting of the Stabat Mater is now newly available in a modern, scholarly edition. The complete performance material is available on sale. Viola SKU: CA.9700713 Christmas Oratorio in Two Parts. Composed by...(+)
Viola SKU: CA.9700713 Christmas Oratorio in Two Parts. Composed by Joseph Leopold Eybler. Edited by Karl Michael Waltl. Arranged by Paul Horn. Viola. Sacred vocal music, Oratorios, Christmas. Individual part. 36 pages. Duration 80 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 97.007/13. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.9700713). ISBN 9790007238957. Text language: German. Joseph Leopold Eybler had frequent contacts with the great composers of his day: both Joseph Haydn and Albrechtsberger were his teachers and friends, and he had a close friendship with Mozart and Johann Michael Haydn. His major Christmas oratorio Die Hirten bei der Krippe zu Bethlehem (1794) was composed four years before Haydn's Die Schopfung (The Creation). The almost operatic work displays a wealth of different facets: from the virtuoso aria, through the tranquil depiction of nature in music, to the portrayal of the most heartfelt emotions. As a true jewel of Viennese classicism, Die Hirten (The Shepherds) is a worthwhile addition to the Christmas repertoire. Viola SKU: CA.2300263 Passion oratorio. Composed by Carl Loewe. Ed...(+)
Viola SKU: CA.2300263 Passion oratorio. Composed by Carl Loewe. Edited by Reinhold Kubik, Claudia Seidl. Viola. Sacred vocal music, Oratorios, Passions, Lent and Passiontide, Holy Week. Individual part. Composed presumably 1847. 36 pages. Duration 105 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 23.002/63. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2300263). ISBN 9790007247942. Language: German. Carl Loewe is known nowadays almost exclusively as a composer of ballads, but he was close to the spirit of his time and also composed a number of oratorios for the amateur choirs which became so numerous in the Biedermeier period. Das Suhnopfer des neuen Bundes reveals a wealth of expressivity using only a modest scoring. The solo parts can easily be performed by good amateurs, the well-known chorales give audiences the opportunity to join in the singing, and the scoring, mainly for small string group, underlines the emotions expressed by the soloists. In this oratorio we can hear Loewe's admiration for the Bach Passions, yet his characteristic musical language, typical of the time, shows that something new could develop from it.
