Présentation Jean-Marie Leclair est le plus éminent représentant de l'école française de violon du XVIIIe siècle. Après plusieurs voyages dans le Piémont où il se forma à l'école italienne de violon, Leclair fit une carrière de soliste et de compositeur, à la ville, notamment au Concert Spirituel où ses concertos ont régulièrement été joués, mais aussi à la Cour en tant que violoniste de la Chambre et de la Chapelle royale. Ses concertos, d'une grande qualité formelle, ont une écriture particulièrement dense et contrapuntique, peu commune en France à cette époque et sans doute rapportée par Leclair de ses nombreux voyages à l'étranger. by Hubay and Sarasate for Violin and Piano. Par SARASATE PABLO DE / HUBAY JENO. Georges Bizet\'s opera Carmen had its first performance in Paris in 1875. In the audience was the 17-year-old Hungarian violin virtuoso and budding composer Jenö Hubay. After the performance Hubay started writing his Carmen Fantasy from memory. The following season for his debut recital in Paris, he included his newly created composition. It is a lyrical work of great beauty and brilliance. Hubay combined his career of a concertizing virtuoso, composer and violin pedagogue. At the Royal Conservatory in Brussels he became the successor of Vieuxtemps and Wieniawski. Later, Franz Liszt invited Hubay to lead the violin department in the newly created Budapest Music Academy. He created the world-renowned Hungarian school of violin playing. His student, Franz von Vecsey, recorded theCarmen Fantasy in 1904 at age 11! His other students included Joseph Szigeti, Zoltán Szekely, Sándor Végh, Endre Gertler, György Garay and many more. Hubay was a very active composer, creating over 120 works including operas, ballets, concertos, songs and instrumental compositions. Pablo de Sarasate wrote his Carmen Fantasy in 1882. It is a composition of drama and passion, written with his unparalleled brilliance for violin writing. Par DVORAK ANTONIN. On 18 January 1887 Antonín Dvorák (1841–1904) started composing his Romantic Pieces for violin and piano, opus 75 (B 150), completing that version on 25 January. They were performed for the first time in a private house two days later, with the composer writing to his publisher in Berlin: ‘Played here yesterday and very well received.’ For this edition reference has been made to a copy of the original manuscript and to the first edition. The small number of bow markings in the violin part of the piano score are original and have been left unaltered. These four contrasting movements are a welcome addition to the violin repertoire and a very effective alternative to Dvorák’s large-scale violin works, the Concerto in A minor and Romance in F minor. / Niveau : Avancé / Répertoire / Violon et Piano

Celtic music is in his blood for his ancestors were noted collectors of dance music manuscripts dating back to the 19th century. With many recordings to his credit he now offers his expertise to performers wishing to explore the rich culture of Irish and other Celtic music on a variety of instruments. ?World Music Celtic? presents material from the Irish Scottish Welsh Cornish and Breton traditions. It makes no great technical demands on the players but Tourish points out that notation of this music is often ?skeletal? hence it is important to gain a knowledge of theindividual traditions in question and naturally he offers plenty of information on performance practice. The collection spans three centuries from the blind bardic harpists of the 18th century to the international performers of the present day. Tourish accepts that this volume can only scratch the surface of a multi-faceted genre but hopes you will see it as a stepping stone to delve deeper into recordings festivals and the very communities whence this music comes. ?World Music Celtic? is available in four formats each with complete recordings and backing tracks on CD: as solo versions for violin flute or saxophone (with piano) and in an ensemble version for two melodic instruments (C Bb or Eb) piano guitar bass and bodhrán.

In the relatively sparse Spanish repertoire for Piano and Violin El Poema De Una Sanluqueña is considered by many a key work of 20th century Spanish chamber music. Turina was a frequent visitor to the seaside town of Sanlúcar in his youth and his love for the town shines through in these four movements. The work Is dedicated to the ?muchachas? the girls of Sanlúcar who it is said ?don?t get married? because the boys of Sanlúcar marry outsiders. Turina wrote the work for ?those beautiful Andalusian girls living in a sad and never-ending dream.? Unlike earlier works of Turina this one was not descriptive but rather suggestive of an emotional state. The piece requires thegreatest technical expertise of both Violinist and pianist as well as sensitivity and humour. Joaquin Turina is often contrasted with Albéniz and Granados those two proponents of a Spanish national style. Turina strove to write music of a European standard in the conventional major forms. In his work it is possible to hear the influence of Turina?s years studying in Paris as well as his native Spain combined with the composer?s own unique Voice.
