Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) was a Danish musician often seen as his country’s greatest composer who now occupies a distinguished platform in the national and cultural heritage of his native Denmark. The Carl Nielsen Edition is an independent project which aims to publish all of his finished works in the version last approved by the composer. His Sonata No.2 for Violin and Piano (Op. 35) was composed in 1912 for a concert the following year by two of the composer's friends. It is scored in three movements: Allegro con Tiepidezza - Molto Adagio - Allegro Piacevole. Despite a poor critical reception after its first performance itwas for a while one of the composer's most popular works with the general public.

Sonatas Wq 71-74 BWV 1036 Violinsonaten nach den Trios Wq 143-147-Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's works for Violin and Harpsichord obbligato pervade his entire compositional oeuvre. The earliest works like the Sonata in D minor still numbered BWV 1036 date back to the years of study with his father yet show already a remarkable creative will of his own. The latest work the fantasia 'C. P. E. Bachs Empfindungen' in F flat minor of 1787 is characterized by the composer's highly expressive late style. The new two-volume edition of Wiener Urtext Edition contains C. P. E. Bach's complete works for Harpsichord (Piano) obbligato and Violin. Vol. 1 contains not only the sonatas Wq 71–74 and BWV 1036 but alsothe arrangements of the trios Wq 143–145 for Violin and Harpsichord most of which are included in C. P. E. Bach's autographs as well as a – previously ignored – early version of Wq 71 which like BWV 1036 grants a rare insight into the early works of the composer. Vol. 2 contains the four major sonatas of 1763 which already fascinated Johannes Brahms. Brahms not only played them in concert together with Joseph Hellmesberger but also published two of these sonatas in 1864. This volume concludes with the two late works 'Arioso' and 'Fantasie' of 1781 and 1787 respectively. With these works C. P. E. Bach bridged the gap between the late Baroque sonatas of his father and the early classical 'Klaviersonate mit begleitender Violine' [Piano Sonata with Accompanying Violin].

Carl Flesch (1873-1944) was a Jewish-Hungarian violinist composer editor and pedagogue. As well as teaching some of the finest violinists of the day he is also remembered for editing and publishing many obscure and underperformed works that might otherwise have been lost from the repertoire. Flesch's Etudesamling (Studies and Exercises) for Solo Violin was first published in 1921 as his opus 2 while the composer was living with his family in Berlin. They are among the finest Etudes available for the instrument: challenging enough to be educational and worthwhile but not so hard that the student becomes disheartened.

Carl Heinrich Paul Stoeving (1861-1948) was a highly regarded musician and pedagogue. Born in Leipzig he studied at the conservatory there before touring all across Europe Russia and the United States as a virtuoso concert violinist. In 1896 he settled in London taking up a role as Professor of Violin at the London Guildhall School of Music. He later taught at Trinity College London and the New York School of Music and Art among others. He composed several solo performance pieces for Violin but it is his authoritative historical and educational writings on the instrument that he is best remembered for today.
