(+)
When Weber offered the sonatas for violin and piano to the publisher André from Offenbach in 1810, the latter refused to print them because they were 'too good and demanding'. In order to reach as large a target group of music-making amateurs as possible, the editors at that time increasingly saw to the works' easy playability. Fortunately, the sonatas nevertheless found their way into the repertoire of the violinists. This is a practical edition in two volumes based on the text of the Weber Complete Edition. / Violon Et Piano

(+)
In May of 1802, the ?Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung? praised the violin sonatas op. 23 and 24 as being ?... among the best Beethoven has written, which is to say that they are among the best being written at all. The composer?s original, fiery and bold spirit ... becomes more and more apparent now ...? The time during which Beethoven composed his ?Spring Sonata?, which was to become increasingly popular during the course of the 19th century, was marked by a frantic surge of compositional creativity. ?I live only in my notes, and with one work barely finished, the other is already started; the way I write now I often find myself working on three, four things at the same time.?, he wrote in a letter to Wegeler on 29 June 1801. However during this time, Beethoven also suffered from the rapid deterioration of his hearing, a fact he was still trying to hide and that the enchanting ?Spring Sonata? certainly does not divulge.

(+)
für Klavier und Violine-In autumn 1765 Mozart?s family was in Holland not least at the request of Princess Caroline von Nassau-Weilburg. The fame of the prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus had already reached her so that she ?had an extraordinary desire to seethis child? (according to Leopold Mozart). The Sonatas for Piano K. 26 31 that can also have a violin accompaniment were composed in The Hague. They were published in 1766 and were naturally dedicated to the princess. An earlycopy which has nothing to do with Mozart was consulted by the New Mozart Edition as a primary source alongside the first edition. Our Urtext edition revises the musical text deleting the misleading additions from thissource. With marked and unmarked string parts.

herausgegeben von Fulvio Luciani. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. A new critical edition of Bach?s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin ? possibly the very pinnacle of the whole repertoire for violin ?, by violinist Fulvio Luciani. The edition is based on the autograph and is equipped with an apparatus of critical notes: they indicate problems with the reading of the original source, suggest possible new solutions, alternative to the widely accepted ones, and retrace the history of harmonic perception, as evidenced by the changes the composition went through across all its historical editions. The curator provides indications (clearly distinguishable from the original source) for the performance, the bowings specifically. They are suggestions founded in the observation of the technical apparatus pictured by Bach in his genius: a hand technique closer to a pianist?s than a traditional violinist?s; a mechanism we could call pioneering to this day. / Date parution : 2022-09-20/ Recueil / Violon

Zwei Duette für Violine und Klavier - Two Duets for Violin and Piano-?They are in a light style intended more for use in the home than for concert performance?. Thus Smetana described these two duets in which he memorialised his Bohemian homeland. It is a fact though scarcelybelievable that Smetana had by this time already been deaf for two years. The pieces were popular from the outset: Smetana was able to demand a high price for them and even to play off several aspiringpublishers against each other. The duets are not technically over-demanding and attract by means of their joyful character and powerful melodies.

Having been considered as a 'fashionable' and 'cliché' composer of his day Hahn's compositions are possibly not as well-known as they ought to be. Sonata In C Major for Violin and Piano however shatter these prejudices held representing the engaging diversity of the composer's music. Venezuelan-born Reynaldo Hahn (1875-1947) entered the Paris Conservatoire at 10 years old. He received a high standard of musical education from Decombes Lavignac Dubois and Massenet before becoming a prolific and versatile composer himself writing works for all genres. For Hahn music was a magical art andhis compositions often contain expressions of his otherwise hidden emotions and moods. Sonata In C Major contains a variety of different features making for a pleasant and evocative piece for advanced violinists.

A pioneering set of Urtext editions.String editions include an Urtext solo part and a second part with fingering as well as performance markings. Each edition offers a preface on performance practice aspects pertaining to the respective works.A separate text booklet includes pioneering texts on general issues of performance practice in the 19th century as well as on specific issues with regard to Johannes Brahms? chamber music.Bärenreiter?s pioneering new scholarly-critical editions of Brahms? works for one instrument and Piano are edited by a team of musicologists who are also performers. They offertoday?s musicians not just a reliable musical text based on all known sources but also a comprehensive approach to the works which aims to place them in their historical context and to elucidate the complex of meanings that the composer wished his notation to convey to performers. The Violin and Viola sonata editions come not only with an Urtext part freed from all editorial emendations but also with an additional part including fingering and bowing based on the practices of Joseph Joachim and his colleagues. These markings especially draw on publications of the sonatas edited by Joachim?s pupils Leopold Auer and Ossip Schnirlin as well as those by Brahms? associate Franz Kneisel. A similar approach has been used for the Violoncello sonatas drawing on performance markings by Robert Hausmann (for whom Brahms wrote the Sonata in F major) Hugo Becker with whom Brahms performed it and Julius Klengel who was also close to his circle.

(+)
Of Grieg?s three Violin sonatas the great C-minor Sonata op. 45 is the best known today. And unjustly so because the two early sonatas are captivating in their joy to play and their fresh youthful tone. And what is more they can also be played by advanced students due to their somewhat lesser technical demands. Written in 1867 the G-major Violin Sonata op. 13 palpably draws on Grieg?s enthusiasm for Norwegian folk music; the lively outer movements in particular take as their model the traditional ?jumping dance.? Aside from the second print edition of 1887 revised by Grieg himself the autograph manuscript in Stockholm wasalso consulted for this edition thus offering an optimally ascertained musical text.

Sonata WoO postum for Violin and Piano-Edited by Clive Brown and Neal Peres Da Costa with an Urtext solo part as well as a second part with performance markings.Johannes Brahms The Works for one Instrument and Piano:Johannes Brahms? compositions for one instrument and Piano have been standards in chamber music literature ever since their inception. These works were written with specific performers in mind and Brahms worked closely with them when refining the final texts. Nevertheless we rarely approach the music taking into consideration the possibilities of the instruments for which Brahms wrote or the performing practices of the individual playerswho first performed these compositions including Brahms himself. The New Urtext Editions:Bärenreiter?s pioneering new scholarly-critical editions of Brahms? works for one instrument and Piano are edited by a team of musicologists who are also performers. They offer today?s musicians not just a reliable musical text based on all known sources but also a comprehensive approach to the works which aims to place them in their historical context and to elucidate the complex of meanings that the composer wished his notation to convey to performers. In addition to the musical text these editions offer an informative Introduction laying out the genesis publication history and reception of the works. At the same time there is a complete list of the sources an explanation of the editorial procedures and a Critical Commentary. Also each volume contains a detailed discussion of specific performing practice issues raised by individual works. An integral part of Bärenreiter?s Brahms publication complex is a text booklet which approaches general performance practice issues of the 19th century with regard to e.g. tempo rubato rhythmic flexibility and articulation. Furthermore musicians will find valuable information concerning vibrato portamento and bowing. Last but not least characteristics of Brahms? own Piano playing as well as that of his circle and contemporaries are discussed. The Violin and Viola sonata editions come not only with an Urtext part freed from all editorial emendations but also with an

Par SARASATE PABLO DE. Sarasate\'s concert career began at age seventeen after he was awarded the coveted Premier Prix from the Paris Conservatoire for both violin and composition. After his London debut, the playwright and music critique George Bernard Shaw wrote in his review that Sarasate \'left criticism gasping miles behind him.\' Shaw also declared that there were many composers of music for the violin; there were but few composers like Sarasate for violin music. His vast concert repertory included many works written for and dedicated to him by Bruch, Saint-Saëns, Wieniawski, Dvorak and many others. He performed his own works in an inimitable, brilliant and charming manner. His contemporaries marveled at his perfect intonation and stunning rhythmic acuity. His bowing technique was the pride of the French School of violin playing. The works presented in this volume are among his finest. All are based on Spanish popular music and are a virtuosic set for violin and piano. They are and have been in virtually every great violinist\'s repertory. They are also exceptionally popular as encore pieces, as well as favorites of budding virtuosos. / Date parution : 2022-01-14/ Recueil / Violin et Piano

Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Felix Konzert für Violine und Orchester e-Moll op. 64 erste Fassung 1844 Edition no.BA 9099-92 ISMN 9790006565733 Editor Todd, R. Larry / Brown, Clive Mendelssohn?s Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the première; the ?child prodigy? Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Léonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Léonard. The letter informs us that the composer invited Léonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Léonard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how Léonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering, they also show how Léonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown. It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn?s approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter?s correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Léonard?s playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice. - New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs - Revised Urtext edition - With a separate booklet on performance practice (Eng/Ger)

Par DAVIS OLIVER. 'For many years the violinist Kerenza Peacock and I have been discussing the concept of a piece about trees. One day I received in the post from her a book by Annie Davidson entitled, ‘How to be More Tree’. This brilliant book became the inspiration for the Arboretum Suite. The first tree I decided to write about was Aspen. I read that Aspen trees work together sharing water and nutrients through their root system, so only as a community can they grow in strength. Aspen is followed by Açai Palm, a tree which is native to Brazil and Argentina, hence the Latin American feel of this movement. The score is marked pizzicato, the plucked sound further accentuating the South American rhythms. The Vanishing Mahogany of the Amazon naturally has a very sombre feel, although the major key ending of this movement reflects the hope that we may still manage to save the rain forests. The last movement describes my response to the description of the Mountain Hemlock. I wanted to create rhythms that depicted this beautiful tree swaying in the mountain winds.' - Oliver Davis / Date parution : 2022-06-08/ Répertoire / Violon et Piano

Par GRUNDMAN JORGE. Originally written for flute and piano and commissioned by the 17th Toledo International Music Festival, Warhol in Springtime takes its name from Andy Warhol and is structured as if a painting were composed from the same image in different tonalities. It should last approximately 15 minutes, in reference to Warhol's famous phrase. The dynamics and expression of the work should be matched by both performers, flautist and pianist, as they feel it. It is dedicated to the late Ukrainian composer Nikolai Kapustin. It belongs to the cycle of four sonatas for flute and piano called The Warhol's Four Seasons of New York. / Date parution : 2022-04-26/ Répertoire / Violon et Piano
