Cette deuxième série de Danceries continue le format établi en Danceries (Set I), à savoir l'utilisation de matériel provenant Maître à danser Playford, une collection de folk et de mélodies populaires publiés dans le XVIIe siècle, pour former la base d'une suite de danses prolongée. Dans cet ensemble, les mélodies ont été plus abstraite et seul projet un écho lointain de leurs formes d'origine, mais comme avant, chaque mouvement est autonome, colorée et directe, avec son ambiance distincte. Les mouvements extérieurs - Bawbee Jennie et Galliarda Peascod de - partagent une utilisation de la conduite de percussion par écrit avec un air militaire. Toye Tom Tinker et facilité coeur (mouvements deux et trois) sont les deux paramètres de mélodies originales. Tous les mouvements sont plus étendus que dans le premier set, avec une utilisation plus libre et l'approche de la matière- mélodies se produisent maintenant dans différentes touches et sont soutenus par une grande variété de couleurs harmoniques. This classical horn concerto has been masterfully transcribed for wind ensemble accompaniment by Robert W. Rumbelow. The first movement, Allegro Maestoso , is in traditional sonata form; the second, Andante , is virtually an ensemble piece with featured horn solo; and the third, Rondo , contains elements of the hunting horn motif that Mozart favored with the horn. This superb selection is an unforgettable opportunity to feature an outstanding horn soloist.

The TV Detectives brings together five of Nigel Hess’s best-known television themes (Dangerfield Campion Wycliffe Maigret and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates) all originally written for small-screen sleuths in whodunits that have been enjoyed by TV audiences worldwide. Dangerfield is a BBC series about a Warwickshire police surgeon and originally starred Nigel le Vaillant before Nigel Havers took over the lead role. Campion also from the BBC was based on Margery Allingham’s stories of a mild-mannered 1920s gentleman detective played by Peter Davison. Wycliffe was a long-running HTV series set in Cornwall and starred Jack Shepherd as a somewhat dour andlow-key DCI - but of course he always solved the case! Michael Gambon starred in Granada TV’s latest incarnation of the famous French detective Maigret while Patricia Routledge played the OAP sleuth to perfection in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates another popular BBC series. For the first time these popular tunes which conjure up their programmes perfectly have been arranged for wind band in a continuous suite.

Malcolm Arnold's 'Clarinet Concerto No. 2 Op. 115' was dedicated to Benny Goodman and first performed by him as part of the 'Red Rocks Music Festival' with the Denver Symphony Orchestra conducted by Brian Priestman on 17 August 1974. The third movement known affectionately as 'The Pre-Goodman Rag' is an outrageous ragtime parody with a hauntingly wistful middle section. The work has now been made more widely available in this transcription for wind band. This version conmtains full score and parts.

Hymns For Private has been beautifully composed by Nico Muhly. This score and parts is the perfect addition to any wind ensembles collection that may be looking for something a little different.Hymns For Private was commissioned by Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Wigmore Hall London with the support of André Hoffmann President of the Fondation Hoffmann a Swiss grant-making foundation for the world premiere performances on April 13 14 18 and 19 2012.

The traditional Ukranian Bell Carol has been expertly scored in a multi-cultural setting for young band and percussion by veteran arranger Robert W. Smith. The arrangement begins quietly with percussion disguising the familiar melodic material. A series of musical evolutions builds to an impressive conclusion. This selection is sure to be a holiday treat for years to come.

'His present pieces must convince both connoisseurs and others alike of the unbiased opinion that Beethoven will in time become one of the greatest composers in Europe”, thus wrote Joseph Haydn, when informing the Elector in Bonn on the progress of his pupil in 1793. However, the elector replied that he was already familiar with parts of the Parthia op. 103 that had been sent as evidence of the composer's progress. Beethoven had apparently only reworked an earlier composition. Nevertheless we must agree with Haydn: The Parthia and the Rondo WoO 25 that was originally intended as the final movement provide wonderful evidence of Beethoven's great skill. Danceries Set II arranged for brass band was first commission by Keith Allen for the Birmingham Symphonic Winds. This second set of Danceries continues the format established in the popular Danceries (Set I) of using tunes and dances from Playford s Dancing Master (17th century) to form the basis of an extended dancesuite. In this set the melodies have become more abstracted and project only a distant echo of their original forms. As before each movement is self-contained colourful and direct with its own distinct mood.The outer movements Jennie s Bawbee and Peascod s Galliarda share driving percussion with a military air. Tom Tinker s Toye and Heart s Ease(movements two and three) are both settings of original melodies. All movements are more extended than in the first set with a freer use and approach to the material; melodies now occur in various keys and are supported by a greater variety of harmonic colouring. The result is a richer even more exhilarating set of dances.Brass Band Grade 5

Flexible Woodwind Ensembl-This suite of folk songs is scored for woodwind quartet and a single unpitched drum. Although the nominal scoring is for flute two clarinets and bassoon the piece has considerable inbuilt flexibility of scoring. The options for instruments on each part are as follows: Part 1: Flute oboe or soprano saxophone Part 2: Bb Clarinet or alto saxophone Part 3: Bb clarinet alto saxophone or tenor saxophone Part 4: Bassoon bass clarinet or baritone saxophoneThe piece may be played by any combination of these instruments. Where necessary some passages have been transposed down an octave in the soprano alto and tenor saxophone parts.Where this occurs the lower pitch is also included in the score. There are also a few notes in the bass clarinet part of the March which have been taken up the octave through necessity; similarly this is indicated in the score.The drum should be unsnared and of medium low pitch. A bodhran tenor drum low tom-tom or floor tom are suggested although in the end it is up to the performer!The folk songs used in the piece are not particularly well known these days. 'Gan to the Kye' is an example of the rich culture of traditional music from Northumbria. The title means 'Go to the cows' and is a love song in which the herdsman asks his lover (in a gesture possibly lacking somewhat in romance) to accompany him whilst he tends his herd of cattle.The second movement is a setting of 'Rosemary Lane' a beautiful Somerset song. It tells of a serving girl ill-used by a sailor; as so often in traditional music the beauty of the tune is quite at odds with the unpleasant circumstances related.'Gently Johnny' is a good-humoured song in which the enthusiastic suitor is teased by the object of his affections: he is asked to cool his ardour whilst at the same time being left in no doubt that his attentions may be as bold as he wishes! The middle section uses another song this time from Middlesex called 'Jack Williams'.
