'His present pieces must convince both connoisseurs and others alike of the unbiased opinion that Beethoven will in time become one of the greatest composers in Europe”, thus wrote Joseph Haydn, when informing the Elector in Bonn on the progress of his pupil in 1793. However, the elector replied that he was already familiar with parts of the Parthia op. 103 that had been sent as evidence of the composer's progress. Beethoven had apparently only reworked an earlier composition. Nevertheless we must agree with Haydn: The Parthia and the Rondo WoO 25 that was originally intended as the final movement provide wonderful evidence of Beethoven's great skill. The profound impression it makes on us is due in part to the sequence of variations on a death motif that seems to have been borrowed from the beginning of the second Kyrie from Bach's Mass in B minor. Written in 1890, it was commissioned by the publisher Novello for the Birmingham Music Festival and premiered there under the direction of the composer on 9 October 1891. For this performance, Dvorák used a copy of the score which he had personally examined and which later served as the engraver's copy. The Dvorák scholar Klaus Döge succeeded in tracking down its location and evaluating this important source for the first time. It contains the 'Fassung letzter Hand' and, moreover, offers valuable insights into Dvorák's conducting workshop. Par HIGGINS GAVIN. Der Aufstand (German for 'riot') is not a descriptive work, nor is it solely based on the riots of 2011. It does, however, draw on the idea of opposing forces and escalating anger. The work falls into two contrasting sections that are linked by a series of repeated, 'screaming' chords. A slow build drives the first section from a single pitch to a blazing orchestral tutti. The second section is a fast and wild series of fanfares and driving rhythms that ultimately cannot be sustained. In many ways this mirrors the first. Both sections open on single tones (Bb and E) and grow to a climax of brass and hammered chords. The first performance took place on the last day of the 2012 Olympic Games. A 10-minute work which follows the journey of the Thames from its origins as a few drops of water in Wiltshire to the point where it meets the open sea. Along the way Hess draws upon many musical links along the Thames such as an old Wiltshire melody morris dancing in Oxfordshire boating songs from Berkshire.With such rich and diverse sources of music across several counties and centuries this has quite understandably become one of Hess's most popular wind band works to date.

Ce rituel est un moment très précieux où l'élève se concentre, 'ouvre ses oreilles' et expérimente son instrument par de nouvelles approches. Ces jeux sont très appréciés des élèves et sont parus en 2019 sous la forme d'une méthode de violoncelle. Dans cette deuxième édition, je m'adresse à tous les professeurs de flûte traversière qui cherchent des outils pour aider leurs élèves à progresser et qui souhaitent diversifier leur cours en expérimentant de nouvelles méthodes. Des oreilles magiques est une méthode originale par de nombreux aspects : L'oralité L'élève ne voit jamais la méthode, qui fait uniquement appel à la transmission orale. Ainsi, l'élève fait vraiment jouer ses capacités auditives. L'apprentissage par le jeu Les jeux rendent le cours vivant et permettent de surmonter les difficultés en les abordant dans un contexte nouveau. La transdisciplinarité Cette méthode fait le lien entre le cours d'instrument et le cours de formation musicale, et permet de faire des progrès dans les deux disciplines. Une progression illimitée La plupart des jeux sont déclinés selon cinq niveaux progressifs. Chaque jeu proposé est faisable dès le premier cours de flûte et jusqu'aux plus hauts niveaux, et s'adresse aux enfants comme aux adultes. Le cinquième niveau est présenté sur un ton humoristique pour mettre en évidence le caractère illimité des progrès potentiels. Le lien avec le chant Cette méthode emploie le chant comme un outil central du travail de l'oreille. Tout au long des jeux, l'élève est incité à chanter pour développer son chant intérieur. Par HOUBEN KEVIN. Guardian Angels dépeint la légende du pasteur Louis Henri Antoine Bähler en utilisant entre autre le Psaume 34. La partie nord-ouest de la région de la Veluwe, et en particulier Oldebroek (Pays-Bas), possède une riche tradition religieuse, dont témoignent les bâtiments monumentaux de l'église. Ils racontent une histoire mouvementée, dans laquelle le pasteur Bähler a joué un rôle particulier. Inspirées par son arrivée comme pasteur en 1870 dans la ville voisine d'Oosterwolde, deux grandes communautés ecclésiastiques ont vu le jour, avec les bâtiments religieux typiques. Cependant, la région a aussi connu des troubles sociaux importants. Cette composition est une méditation sur la personnalité marquante du pasteur et en particulier sur l'histoire de la protection des anges: Un soir, le pasteur Bähler avait prêché à Oldebroek et marchait le long du sentier de l?église entre les champs pour aller à Oosterwolde. Le temps était sombre et orageux. Certains opposants de Bähler lui avaient tendu une embuscade et voulaient le noyer dans un fossé près du sentier. Lorsqu?ils virent qu?il n?était pas seul, mais en compagnie de deux autres hommes, ils abandonnèrent leur projet. Le lendemain, Bähler rencontra ses adversaires. Ceux-ci regrettaient ce plan qu?ils n?avaient heureusement pas pu mettre à exécution. Lors de cette rencontre, Bähler affirma catégoriquement avoir été seul à marcher sur le sentier de l?église la veille plutôt qu?accompagné par deux autres hommes. On en conclut qu?il avait été protégé par des anges. Si le Psaume 34 est au centre de cette composition, c?est en raison de sa puissante mélodie mais aussi parce que le texte du verset 4 de la version rimée de ce psaume s'accorde bien avec la légende extraordinaire du pasteur Bähler: ?L'ange du Seigneur monte la garde ?autour de ceux qui le craignent,?il les met hors de danger.? Une deuxième cellule mélodique et harmonique est la transformation musicale du nom ?Bähler?. Cette cellule est utilisée en variation d?accords de tierces majeures et mineures, tant comme idée principale que comme apothéose, mais également comme cellule d'accompagnement ou de motif de pont entre d'autres constructions mélodiques et rythmiques. Lyons has performed with Orchestras and ensembles throughout the world both in live performance and on broadcasts and recordings. Hehas written a book on Soviet international policy. If you or your students began your clarinet career on a Clarineo a scaled-down instrument appropriate for younger students then you have Lyons to thank as he is its inventor.

Standard US Set (without european suppl. parts)-Commissioned by the Michigan State University Alumni Band this three movement work by Karel Husa was the winner of the first Louis Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in 1983. A note from thecomposer: 'Divided into three movements this work is a display of virtuoso passages given to solo instruments as well as to the groups of the ensemble. In the Fanfare of the first movement the Brass section concertises in groupsof four Brass quintets (2 Trumpets Horn Trombone and Tuba or Baritone) spread from left to right in back. The Saxophones (SATB) are placed in front of the Brass quintets and the Woodwinds occupy the front of the stage withPercussion on the left and right side. These groups like the Brass quintets play in the concertante style particularly in the first and last movements. 'At the same time each movement contains individual solo passages(for example Timpani and Flute in Movement I - Drum Ceremony and English Horn and other low Woodwinds in Movement II - Elegy). The composition of this piece was prompted by the excellence of Wind and Percussion players today andby the incredible growth of Wind ensembles orchestras and bands in the last 25 years. It is intended for their enjoyment.'
