Richard Strauss (1864-1949) originally wrote this work for solo piano and orchestra under the title Scherzo in D minor in 1886 for conductor and pianist Hans von Bülow, a large influence on Strauss' career. Von Bülow, however, consider the work a complicated piece of nonsense and wanted nothing to do it. Discouraged, Strauss set the work aside until 1889, when he met Scottish pianist Eugen d'Albert, who liked it while also suggesting some changes. With a new title, Burleske, and a dedication to d'Albert, the work was premiered on June 21st, 1890 in Eisenach at the Tonkünstlerfest with d'Albert at the piano and Strauss conducting. Despite this, Strauss remained convinced that the work lacked merit and refused to have the work published until 1894, although it eventually became one of his favorite works. Strauss never gave the work an opus number, but many consider it to be Op. 11, which is actually assigned to his Horn Concerto No. 1 in E-flat. Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2.2.2: 4.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Piano. These products are currently being prepared by a new publisher. Piano SKU: C4.9790902257176 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Daniel Mitterdorfer and Harold Fabrikant. Arranged by Eugen d'Albert. Classical. Score. Crescendo Music Publications #9790902257176. Published by Crescendo Music Publications (C4.9790902257176). ISBN 9790902257176. 8.27 x 11.7 inches. Eugen d'Albert (1864-1932) enjoyed an illustrious and colourful career as both concert pianist and composer. He wished to include J.S. Bach's music in his concerts and sought the grandeur of some of the large secular organ works. The transcriptions he made for this purpose are arguably better than the numerous Bach transcriptions made by his contemporaries. D'Albert's versions of eight secular masterworks present them remarkably close to their original form, yet perfectly matched to the modern piano. At times, they make very considerable technical demands, but the effort to master them is amply rewarded.
This 116-page volume marks their first appearance since they were first issued over a century ago. Many errors and inaccuracies have been remedied and English translations of his musical terms have been provided. $37.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks | | |

3.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(2): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): [Solo Piano] SKU: AP.36-A219801 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Chamber Orchestra; Performance Music Ensemble. Edwin F. Kalmus. Form: Concerto. Romantic. Score. LudwigMasters Publications #36-A219801. Published by LudwigMasters Publications (AP.36-A219801). UPC: 660355013270. English. Captivated by the playing of famed Franz Liszt pupil Eugen d'Albert during the 1883-1884 concert season, Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) began work on Concert Fantasia. After an arduous composition process, on which the composer himself remarked, I stopped playing around and came up with something... but it still sounded too poor and unoriginal... Tchaikovsky laid aside Concert Fantasia and began sketching out his Third Orchestral Suite. He eventually returned to and finished Concert Fantasia in June of 1884, with the surprising addition of the second movement Contrastes. Originally composed as the first movement of his Third Orchestral Suite but ultimately rejected, Tchaikovsky reservedly added it as a second movement to Concert Fantasia. While recognizing and wishing to use the movement for its own merits, he still harbored doubts and added an alternative solo cadenza to the end of the first movement in case Contrastes was to be omitted. The Russian Musical Society under the direction of Max Erdmannsdörfer premiered the work in 1855. In the two decades after its debut, Concert Fantasia received many performances but disappeared from the repertoire until it underwent a revival in the latter part of the 20th century. Instrumentation: 3.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(2): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): [Solo Piano]. These products are currently being prepared by a new publisher.
