Niels W. Gade. Works Iv-9. Par WILHELM GADE NIELS. Works for Mixed Choir Niels W. Gade. Werks Volume IV/9 Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817& 1890) Works Edited by the Foundation for the Publication of the Works of Niels W. Gade, Copenhagen Niels W. Gade is one of the leading Danish composers of the nineteenth century. However only about half of his prolific œ uvre has appeared in print. Given this fact and the growing current interest in Gade, there is an urgent need for a scholarly-critical Urtext edition of his music to meet the demands of both scholars and performers. This edition will contain all of Gade's completed compositions and separate movements as well as the arrangements he madeof his own works and those of other composers. In general, the main text presents the ; definitive version based on Gade's personal copy of the printed work. However, all the remaining sources have also been consulted for purposes of comparison. Every editorial decision is mentioned and justified in the critical report (English). Gade's interest in choral music spanned his entire career. This volume presents more than 40 of his shorter works for mixed chorus, both without and with accompaniment (piano, organ, harmonium or, in one case, brass ensemble). They occupy a no less prominent place in his oeuvre than his large-scale choral works with orchestra. Written between 1839 and 1885, they were intended for many different areas of application: songs for school chorus stand alongside liturgical music, pièces d'occasion, chorales and freely composed works for amateur choirs. The best-known are his Five Songs (op. 13) on poems by Emmanuel Geibel and Ludwig Tieck and the motet O du, der du die Liebe bist, both composed in Leipzig in 1846./ Répertoire / Choeur Mixte

Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). Par BRUCKNER ANTON / DOSS THOMAS (Arr.). Anton Bruckner (b. 4.9.1824, Ansfelden, d. 11.10.1896, Vienna) didn?t have it easy. Throughout his life, the Austrian composer was plagued by self-doubt. Anton Bruckner came from a simple, rural background. After the death of his father, he was accepted as a choirboy at the monastery of Sankt Florian in 1837. After several years as a school assistant and his own organ and piano studies, he first worked as organist in St. Florian, then from 1855 as cathedral organist in Linz. Introduced to music theory and instrumentation by Simon Sechter and Otto Kitzler, he discovered Richard Wagner as an artistic role model, whom he admired throughout his life and also visited several times in Bayreuth. In 1868 Anton Bruckner became professor of basso continuo, counterpoint and organ at the Vienna Conservatory; ten years later court organist; and in 1891 finally honorary doctor of the University of Vienna. He was considered an important organ virtuoso of his era, but had to wait a long time for recognition as a composer. It was not until Symphony No.7 in E major, composed between 1881 and 1883, with the famous Adagio written under the effects of Wagner's death, that he achieved the recognition he had hoped for, even if he was reluctant to accept it given his inclination towards scepticism and self-criticism. Anton Bruckner was a loner who did not want to follow a particular school or doctrine. He composed numerous sacred vocal works, such as his three masses, the Missa Solemnis in B flat minor (1854), the Te Deum (1881-84) and numerous motets. As a symphonic composer, he wrote a total of nine symphonies and many symphonic studies from 1863 onwards, tending to revise completed versions several times over. Bruckner's orchestral works were long considered unplayable, but in fact were merely exceptionally bold for the tonal language of their time, uniting traditions from Beethoven through Wagner to folk music, on the threshold between late Romanticism and Modernism. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. This new edition of Johannes Brahms?s Schicksalslied, op. 54 for mixed choir and orchestra is a modern Urtext edition of the score based on current editorial principles. It is based not only on the composer?s personal copy of the first edition as the primary source, but also on the engraving manuscript which was long thought to have been lost. Thus the composer?s handwritten corrections made in this manuscript could be incorporated in the new edition, as well as a revision in this bilingual edition of the English translation of Friedrich Hölderlin?s dramatic poem. With this work Brahms created a very personal interpretation on the theme of fate in a timless piece of music thatwill not fail to impress in concert hall or church. / Date parution : 2023-06-02/ Répertoire / Choeur Mixte SATB et Piano

O Take My Hand, Dear Father. Par SILCHER FRIEDRICH. This celebrated song is based on a poem by Julie Hausmann (1826-1901), a Latvian teacher who was probably blind. The text draws on her personal experience and unshakeable faith in God, death and eternal life. The melody by Friedrich Silcher is written in a simple and delicate style but also draws on the grand romantic tradition of Wagner and Bruckner. This arrangement can also be performed with a mixed choir. The choir parts are in German. / Niveau : 2 / Musique pour célébration / Répertoire / Brass Band

For the occasion of the coronation of King George II and Queen Caroline, which took place in Westminster Abbey on October 11, 1727, Handel wrote four splendid anthems and personally supervised their performance which was, according to all reports, one of great magnificence. The four anthems were enthusiastically received, and one or more of them has been performed at every British coronation since 1727. Anthem #2 ('The King Shall Rejoice'), although less well-known than Anthem #1, is an equally splendid example of Handel's ceremonial style - what Burney has affectionately termed his 'big bow-bow manner'. This work contains an opening Allegro, brilliant and elegant rather than pompous - a grandiose setting of 'Glory and great worship hast thou laid upon him' - and a lively fugal Alleluia as a conclusion. Arranged for four-part chorus of mixed voices with organ or piano accompaniment. Edited and with keyboard reduction by Edouard Silas. / Chant Et Piano

Solo And Chamber Works. Par KURTAG GYORGY. Signs, Games and Messages are series for solo instruments and small chamber ensembles. Each of the three notions refers to an essential factor in Kurtág’s music. Signs ties it with the composer’s period of study in Paris as a young man, when he could not compose, merely put graphic signs on the paper. Games links with his nine-volume series for the piano with that title. Messages conveys the very personal content of these works, in that these short pieces are meant to be diary-entries and missives to musicians and friends important to Kurtág. The collection - like the earlier five series for string instruments - does not form a coherent cycle. The pieces can be played individually or in various orders or mixed with from Signs, Games and Messages written for other instruments./ Répertoire / Hautbois et Cor Anglais

Lieder der Vergänglichkeit for three soloists (SMezBar), mixed choir and orches...(+)
Lieder der Vergänglichkeit for three soloists (SMezBar), mixed choir and orchestra. Par PENDERECKI KRZYSZTOF. The form of this work is not so much based on the classical symphony, but is closer to a song cycle structure which has now grown to include 13 movements for choir and orchestra. The Romantic characteristics and form of the 8th Symphony are both reminiscent of Gustav Mahler’s choral symphonic works and his Lied von der Erde. Krzysztof Penderecki here extends and augments his expressive musical material, for example through cluster techniques and glissandi, possibilities which he has been systematically exploring since the 1950s. He has compiled the texts from poetry by Eichendorff, Rilke, Brecht, Kraus, Hesse, Goethe, Bethge and von Arnim on the theme of ’forests and trees’, which has long been close to his heart as demonstrated by his private arboretum near Luslavice (’my personal Ithaca’) containing over 1500 species of trees./ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

for soprano soloist, mixed choir, and orchestra or ensemble (with organ) This is one of the best-loved and most widely performed choral works of the twentieth century. The texts (in Latin and English) are from the Missa pro Defunctis, the Book of Common Prayer, and the Psalms. The seven sections form an arch-like meditation on the themes of life and death: prayers on behalf of all humanity, psalms, personal prayers to Christ, and in the central Sanctus an affirmation of divine glory. The full scores have been edited and engraved by the composer himself and are presented in handsome, cloth-bound editions. Vocal and orchestral material is available on hire.
