This String Quartet has some technical difficulties particularly for the first violinist but the musical result is worth the effort and players familiar with Beethoven's quartets will enjoy playing it. It is one of three Hummel opus 30 quartets published by SJ Music. All three are classical in style and pleasurable to listen to and play and many would say that they have been unjustly neglected. Johann Nepomuk Hummel was a Hungarian pianist conductor and composer born in Pozsony (now Bratislava) in 1778. He died in Weimar in 1837. Mozart heard him play aged seven in Vienna and was so impressed that he offered him lessons and took him to live with him for the next two years.As an adult in Vienna he became good friends with Beethoven.

Piano reduction in E major and E flat major with parts in E/E flat C and B flatHummel's Trumpet Concerto is still one of the most popular concertos for this instrument. He composed it in 1803 for the Viennese courttrumpeter Anton Waidinger whose newly developed key-trumpet enabled him to play in a much more virtuoso manner than on the traditional natural trumpet. Henle's Urtext edition reproduces the work in the original key of E majorwith solo parts in E and for the more common trumpet in C. Due to the fact that the concerto is nowadays often performed in E flat major this edition also contains a piano reduction in E flat major for trumpets in E flat and Bflat. The different transpositions are now available in one single edition for the first time.

Trumpet Concerto-Hummel's trumpet concerto was written in 1803 for the Viennese trumpet virtuoso Anton Weidinger (1767-1852) who had developed a fully chromatic keyed trumpet. The concerto was originally written in the Key of E butis nowadays more often played in E flat so it can be comfortably performed on both B flat and E flat trumpets. This edition in E flat has parts for B flat and E flat trumpets.
