Ton Koopman's new edition of all 16 organ concertos by Handel has drawn to a close. The quality of this edition has been highly praised from all quarters. Source-critical responsibility goes hand in hand with a high level of performance practice when Koopman provides interpretative tips for the ad libitum passages in the organ part without restricting the creativity of the interpreter who is interested in stylistic matters and prefers to work out his own solutions. I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote. Nevertheless, there are occasional performance suggestions in small print which are elucidated in the Critical Commentary. (Ton Koopman in Concerto) Koopman offers a basically unmarked text, thus leaving the performance details up to the performer. Especially note-worthy is the clear printing, extensive preface and detailed Critical Notes. (Katholische Kirchenmusik) Whoever wishes to hear the entire Koopman edition on CD can look forward to the new recording by Christian Schmitt and the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (Brilliant Classics). This is the first recording for which all 16 new Koopman editions were used as the basis for the performance.,I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote.' In the past twenty years, worship styles in many churches have transformed, emphasizing a personal worship that strives for intimacy with the Father. This renewal led some ministries, perhaps unintentionally, to abandon the great hymns of our faith in favor of newly composed worship songs. Other ministries, in an effort to create a balanced worship style, mixed the new with the old, sometimes with results that only amplified the differences between the two. Hymns for Praise & Worship bridges the stylistic gap between modern-day worship songs and the hymns of our Christian heritage. A select advisory board of active music ministers, Word Music staff and key choral arrangers were assembled to pinpoint fifty-six hymns from the vast array of hymnody, not only for their musical quality, but for the messages that they bring to worshippers today. Veteran choral arrangers John E. Coates and Travis Cottrell have been creating new settings of hymns for their own congregations for years. Their experience as worship leaders brought not only musicality, but also congregational and choral pragmatism to each new arrangement in Hymns for Praise & Worship. With all of the same editions and features as the Songs for Praise & Worship series, this collection is designed to work hand-in-hand with existing resources for worship. Various stylistic changes make these settings flow easily, appeal to the modern ear, and correlate with the styles of contemporary praise & worship songs. Throughout this book you will encounter variations from traditional time signatures, intuitive syncopated rhythms, and substituted chords and harmonies. Even the few hymns with more traditional settings are treated in a manner that takes the congregation on a journey through the verses, sometimes in a more through-composed manner, and usually culminating in a climactic conclusion. Each of the changes was not implemented arbitrarily, but with the goal of making the timeless messages of each hymn leap from the page in new and exciting ways. Two added features of Hymns for Praise & Worship are the demonstration and accompaniment recordings. While the songs in the collection are well known, the new arrangements are not. The staff of Word Music felt that it was vital to provide audible resources to teach and lead worship to best communicate the desires of the arrangers. All of the core editions (Choir/Worship Team, Worship Planner, Keyboard Edition, Guitar Edition) reflect the verses and voicings used on the recordings.

The Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 39 was completed in September of 1992. It was commissioned by James Galway, and is dedicated to him. The work is scored for an orchestra comprised of piccolo, flute, oboe, english horn, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, two horns, two trumpets, timpani, percussion, harp, piano and strings. The Concerto is in three movements. The first movement, Moderato, is an arc-like form, all of whose components are in fact variations on the harmonic progression of its principal theme. The central section of this movement is a set of explicit chaconne variations on a chorale-version of this progression. The second movement, Adagio molto, presents a lyrical melody which is spun out over a pulsating syncopated ostinato which persists through the entire length of the movement. The final movement, Presto, is a virtuoso work-out for the flutist in a rondo-like form which closes with a Prestissimo coda. The Concerto for Flute and Orchestra has been recorded for release on the BMG label by James Galway with the London Mozart Players conducted by the composer. The Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 39 was completed in September of 1992. After the chaos of the recording sessions for the Beatles' last two late '60s records, Paul suggested to producer George Martin that they record an album like they used to earlier in their career, with all band members present. The result of this effort was one of the finest rock albums ever created. Celebrating the album's recent 50th anniversary, our medley includes Something, Here Comes the Sun, Come Together, Octopus's Garden, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, She Came Through the Bathroom Window and The End.

In this new recording from Tony Alonso, you will find ritual songs of mission and ministry that challenge us to take the Gospel vision from the table of Christ Jesus to the table of the world. Songs like “How Good It Is†and “I Will Arise†portray a message of forgiveness, reconciliation, peace, and unity. These themes are also reflected in the usage of diverse languages and music from other cultures throughout this recording. Many of the songs are bilingual, incorporating both Spanish and English. “Touch the Earth Lightly,†with text by Shirley Erena Murray, is a gentle plea that calls us to be goodstewards of the earth. In the title track, “Table of the World,†Alonso skillfully crafts, through the marriage of an original text to the familiar tune NETTLETON, a sending forth that directs us to “become what we receive.†Table of the World truly communicates God’s call for us to live as one in grace and peace.

Originally recorded by Monika Herzig and a cast of musical collaborators from around the globe on her 2016 album, The Whole World in Her Hands, Oh, Muddy Waters is a bluesy call-and-response between bass instruments and the whole ensemble. Monika has arranged the small group version for big band, with modest brass ranges, suggested piano voicings, and solo space for tenor sax and guitar (or piano). Solo transcriptions are provided that match the recording note-for-note. Laid-back, soft syncopations and a rich harmonic language bring to life a composition that builds on that initial bass riff. Top trumpet note: G5.

The Musical Aptitude Profile (MAP) is the world standard in music aptitude testing. The MAP test is by far the most researched aptitude test on the market today, with more than 30 years of history as the most comprehensive test of music aptitude ever published. MAP is a complete test with seven components: tonal imagery (melody and harmony), rhythm imagery (tempo and meter), and musical sensitivity (phrasing, balance, and style). The entire test takes about 3.5 hours to administer. Revised in 1995, MAP now features remastered recordings and an updated manual. The test must be scored manually with a set of scoring masks available from the publisher. The MAP kit includes manual, compact discs, 5 class record sheets, 50 answer sheets, and 50 profile cards, scoring masks, introduction to testing booklet, and four research monographs. Short on time? For those who need only tonal, rhythm, and composite scores, we recommend the PMMA, IMMA, or AMMA tests (depending on the ages of the students). These tests take from 20 to 40 minutes to administer.
