Ralph Sauer has arranged a marvelous song by Wagner called the Arrival of the Black Swans or Ankunft be den schwarzen Schwanen for Trombone and Piano.

Arrival of the Black Swans by Richard Wagner was originally written for solo piano in 1861 and first published in 1897. A somber opening is followed by a moving middle section, reminiscent of passages from Lohengrin.

This song is in Wagner's romantic style and is for moderately advanced performers. Length of the song is about 4.5 minutes & includes Tenor Clef for the Trombone part.

Shepherd's Song is heard in the prelude to the Finale, Act 3 of Wagner's great opera, Tristan & Isolde. It is a bleak and doleful lament played mostly unaccompanied by a shepherd boy keeping watch for Isolde's ship to arrive. The melody is later heard throughout scene 1.
Ralph Sauer, has done a beautiful job in arranging this music (originally played offstage on the English Horn) for Tenor Trombone.
It is about 2 1/2 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers.

The final opera of Wagner's immense work of genius, his Ring Cycle is Götterdämmerung. The Immolation Scene occurs in the final part of Act 3, where Brunnhilde lights a pyre and the ensuing flames bring down the Hall of the Gods, consuming all within it as the curtain falls.

This collection of orchestral excerpts from Der Ring des Nibelungen by Stephen Fissel represents some of the major portions of this great music that Richard Wagner composed for low brass. The selection of these excerpts comes from Mr. Fissel's own experience in preparing and performing the Ring Cycle with Seattle Opera. In conjunction with Ring performances in Seattle, he and his colleagues would often rehearse these sections and present them in a concert along with commentary to explain their importance, either elucidating a musical aspect or an element of plot narrative, or from the standpoint of the development of the low brass instruments of the orchestra.

For the serious orchestral low brass performer, Mr. Fissel's compilation is a wonderful way to experience the highlights of Wagner's operatic genius embodied in the four Ring Cycle operas: Das Rheingold, Die Walkyrie, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung.
