The choral collections Tagzeiten mit dem Gotteslob tap into the rich treasures of the sections on the Divine Office in the German Catholic hymnal Gotteslob. They encourage lively worship services which can be created and celebrated together by choir and congregation. In this work by the German composer Peter Cornelius (1824 - 1874) the mediaeval choral Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern comes to the fore as a counter melody.

Robert van Beringen zorgt met deze bewerking van het oorspronkelijk voor vocale bezetting geschreven Drei Könige voor een welkome aanvulling van het kerstrepertoire voor blaasorkest. In dit werk van de Duitse componist PeterCornelius (1824-1874) komt het middeleeuwse koraal Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern als tegenmelodie duidelijk naar voren.

Dieses von Robert van Beringen meisterhaft bearbeitete Werk, das ursprünglich für Singstimme geschrieben wurde, ist eine willkommene Ergänzung des Weihnachtsrepertoires eines jeden Blasorchesters. In der vom deutschen Komponisten Peter Cornelius (1924-1874) stammenden Fassung tritt der mittelalterliche Choral Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern als kontrastierende Melodie deutlich in den Vordergrund.

Ultimately, he is a pupil for whom I need not feel embarrassed, wrote J. S. Bach, summarizing the qualities of his son-in-law to be, J. C: Altnickol. Altnickol's two settings of the Sanctus, based on a Gregorian cantus firmus, are among his few works which have survived. While in the second of these compositions he chose to write a polyphonic choral setting, in the first Sanctus he allows all four voices of the choir to sing unisono, accompanied by a polyphonically treated string ensemble. In both compositions, however, he proves himself to be a contrapuntalist fully worthy of Bach's appraisal. Score available separately - see item CA.2708800.
