Enrique Granados (1867-1916) was a Spanish composer and pianist, who studied in Barcelona and Paris, and whose life was tragically cut short by the First World War. The nationalist style which dominated his early output is often seen to be epitomised by the 1890 work, 12 Danza Espanola, a collection of Spanish dances originally for the solo Piano.

Andaluza is No. 5 from 12 Danza Espanola, and has been transcribed here for Cello with Piano accompaniment. This high quality edition comes in a marbled cover, and would be a perfect gift for any cellist interested in Spanish music.

The Missa Omnium Sanctorum ZWV 21 is Zelenka's last mass setting. It contains three extended arias (one each for soprano, alto and tenor), concertante choruses and unusually expressive choral fugues. Especially powerful in effect is the through-composed Credo in this mass, with a ritornello that is one of Zelenka's most beautiful inspirations. The score and parts material of this new edition are based on the corresponding volume of the Das Erbe deutscher Musik series, from which Breitkopf & Hartel also took over both its informative preface as well as the critical report. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. This piece is a reworking of the song ‘An end’ from the composer's song cycle ...too bitter sweet (Op. 27) and takes its title from a line in the Rosetti poem, which suggests an overall mood of regret and nostalgia. Based on a rising minor arpeggio in an E modal minor tonality, the main theme is varied slightly on each statement. Likewise the secondary motif, first heard in bars 27 to 30, is presented differently each time. Wistful throughout and unashamedly melodic, the oboe is in constant dialogue with the piano accompaniment.
