Drum SKU: HL.138634 By Chick Webb. Reference. Biography/Composers & Musicians. Softcover. 68 pages. Published by Centerstream Publications (HL.138634). ISBN 9781574243093. UPC: 888680032326. 8.5x11.0x0.175 inches. Chet Falzerano, Foreword by Van Alexander. Chick Webb's short professional career (he died at age 30) served as an inspiration to young drummers at the dawn of America's big band/swing era. Simply stated, Webb is the guy who inspired the guys, who inspired the guys, who inspired you. Gene Krupa: Chick taught me more than anyone. Buddy Rich: As a soloist, Chick had no equal at the time. Papa Jo Jones I don't speak of Chick Webb, the drummer, I speak of Chick Webb, the epitome. And Webb accomplished this as a black man crippled with a debilitating disease in a segregated society. His contributions as a drummer/bandleader changed the course of music in America, not the least of which was discovering Ella Fitzgerald. Author Chet Falzerano chronicles Webb's greatness in this celebration of the little giant including the recreation of Webb's drum set. $24.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

| Selections from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach Piano solo - Intermediate FJH
Solo piano - Intermediate SKU: FJ.H1024 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach...(+)
Solo piano - Intermediate SKU: FJ.H1024 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Edwin Mclean. Keyboard Catalog Heading; Masterworks. FJH Classic Editions. Form: Suite. Baroque; Masterwork; Recital. Book. The FJH Music Company Inc #98-H1024. Published by The FJH Music Company Inc (FJ.H1024). ISBN 9781619283480. UPC: 241444437070. English. In 1725, J.S. Bach gave his second wife, Anna Magdalena, a Notenbüchlein - a collection of solo keyboard pieces and arias. Most of the keyboard pieces were composed by friends, colleagues, and his son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The easier keyboard works were probably used to instruct their children, while the arias would have been performed by Anna Magdalena, who was a singer. For this edition, Edwin McLean has chosen and expertly edited the most popular and easier keyboard pieces. Originally, the pieces contained no dynamics and virtually no phrasing, which is typical of baroque harpsichord music and even early 18th-century fortepiano music. Sectional dynamics have been added editorially and may be changed at the discretion of the performer. A minimal amount of phrasing and articulation has also been added for clarity. This edition preserves the original notation for appoggiaturas, where small eighth or quarter notes resolve to the principal note. Ossias have been included to show how to play them; ossias also appear when needed for ornaments such as trills and mordents. $10.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Orchestra SKU: FG.55011-588-0 Composed by Einojuhani Rautavaara. Score. Fennica Gehrman #55011-588-0. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-588-0). ISBN 9790550115880. I wrote my First Symphony while studying in the United States in 1955, but the work has since undergone two substantial changes. The original four-movement structure changed into a two-movement structure in 1988, with an expansive, Romantic and pathos-laden principal movement followed by a grotesque and ironic scherzo. This version seems to owe something to Dmitri Shostakovich, one of the idols of 1950s Modernism in Finland. Later I found that the structure was out of balance, and in 2003 I added a lyrical slow movement (Poetico) between the two existing ones. In order to preserve the 1950s spirit of the original work, I based the slow movement on solo song written around the same time (third movement from the song cycle Die Liebenden). $41.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

SAM a cappella Choral (SA MEN, A CAPPELLA) SKU: HL.397260 SAM-Klang Ch...(+)
SAM a cappella Choral (SA MEN, A CAPPELLA) SKU: HL.397260 SAM-Klang Choral Series. Arranged by Morten Schuldt-jensen. Choral. Softcover. 28 pages. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.397260). ISBN 9781705158777. UPC: 196288034766. 6.75x9.0x0.123 inches. In many parts of the world, Advent and Christmas carols have become part of the standard repertoire of popular songs, and this tradition has also produced a large number of such songs in German-speaking countries. These include not only folk songs, some of unknown origin, but also art songs in various styles, as well as movements from popular classical Christmas works. This diversity is reflected in this first volume of German-language Christmas carols, which brings together carols from a broad range of eras, origins and styles. The name SAM-Klang takes the three voice parts from the arrangements -- Soprano, Alto and Men -- and combines it with the Scandinavian and German words for “sound†to create the portmanteau word “sound together†or “harmony.†The series offers basic and advanced choral repertoire. In addition to new repertoire and new arrangements, you will also find essential parts of the classical German, Scandinavian, French and English SATB repertoire, carefully and considerately reworked for SAM. The arrangements retain the characteristic features of the original movements and have almost the same richness of timbre, resulting in works which sound nearly unchanged to an audience. Piano reductions of all choral movements facilitate rehearsal preparation. The arrangements offer development opportunities for all voice sections, bringing new life and new quality to SAM choir work. SAM-Klang enables youth choirs to gain access to classical choral literature and ensures that mixed choirs who face challenges in finding singers for all male voice parts continue to have access to well-loved repertoire. $7.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

English. Iyana Davis. Negro Spiritual with Rap crafter by Ayana Davis. This Negro Spiritual was made popular by the Golden Gate Quartet in the 1930s. Willie T. Johnson, the lead singer of the group, is the father of Kevin P. Johnson the arranger of this version. The composer, like his father, uses rhythm in exciting new ways to deliver Negro Spirituals to contemporary audiences. The text of this spiritual has been interpreted in many different ways over the years. Here's a popular interpretation of the text. One for the little bitty baby born, born, born in Bethlehem: This refers to the infant Jesus. Two for Paul and Silas: This verse honors Paul and Silas who went on many missionary journeys to spread the teachings of Christ. Three for the Hebrew children: The three Hebrew children could be Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Four for the four that stood at the door: Many people interpret the four to be the four writers of the Gospel books - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, though this does not explain the part about standing at the door. Five for the gospel preachers: The five are Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Peter. Paul is already mentioned above, in line two. Six for the six that never got fixed: Could this mean the sinners who never change their ways? Seven for the seven that went up to heaven: The seven in heaven could be the seven stars in Ursa Major or the sevenfold spirit of God or the seven early Christian churches or the seven stars in the right hand of Christ mentioned in the Revelation. Eight for the eight that stood at the gate: This could refer to the eight people who entered Noah's ark (Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives). Nine for the nine that dressed so fine: This could refer to the nine orders of Angels in heaven. Ten for the ten commandments: This refers to the ten commandments given to Moses. Performance notes: Swing the 8th notes Djembe drums should be played freely with flexible precision The rap can be optional The ending solo can be sung down an octave and can be changed to match the ability of the soloist. Do not clap louder than you sing If doing choral movement on the piece, pay attention to detail synchronizing movements as much as possible. While the rap is words in rhythm, if adding one is not possible for your performance, consider a spoken word of your own choosing Have fun!. Per Norgard NUIT DES HOMMESThe night of mankind - the night of men is a kind of opera in so far as it is about a stagework with sung accompanied by both acoustic and electronic instruments - a stagework in two acts and approx. 20 pictures. However if you by opera think of its dramatic type with people in one or more conflicts, mutual and with themselves - well, then Night of mankind probably has to reckon among another, not yet categories genre. It may well be two named person that perform (Alice and Vilhelm), but the opera does not deal with their possible mutual tensions, but instead of their common limitless intensity, which first make them in harmony walk the dangerous paths on which the enthusiasm lead them and afterwards divides them as now radically changed figures: from the individual woman to the war correspondent, in demagogic - ecstatic outburst of feelings - from the mans human to the soldiers unhuman everyday. A crash into the underground - without a return ticket.Per Norgard. $100.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

This work may be performed during Holy Week by excluding the final movement or in its entirety for Easter and Eastertide. The beautiful piano accompaniment reflects Mark's keyboard artistry, and his masterful orchestration offers an added dimension to the drama. The Power of the Cross provides an artful and poignant reminder of Christ's sacrifice of love, His triumph over death, and His promise of redemption for us all. $94.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Premiered at Merkin Hall in New York. Contemporary. Full score. With Standard notation. Composed 2004. 45 pages. Duration 12 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41271S. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.11441271S). UPC: 680160587094. 8.5 x 11 inches. Poem by Du Fu (712-770 in Tang Dynasty). It's like the welcome rain on a quiet spring night that nurtures the budding seeds, our new society is pushing us forward to the new future. This music reflects the scenes and the expression according to the meaning of the poem when it's being unfolded line by line. Although the tempo is set 60-70 quarter notes per minute throughout (played vividly, never slow down), the tension is being built up from the quiet background in the beginning, to the sustained climax towards the end. The musical image in Rehersal A and B (measures 1 - 41) represents the first four lines of the poem. The woodwind instruments response to the rustling of fast moving notes on muted string triplets, decorated by occasional strokes produced by metallic string sound and high piano gestures. The music in Rehersal C and D (measures 42-87) represents the next two lines of the poem. It's so dark, a little light in the boat is shimmering on the lake... The breathy key slaps on the flute creates a mysterious atmosphere, in a dialogue with other instruments. The cello glissandi recite the poem in the tone of Mandarin, echoed by the string harmonics. The music in Rehersal E, F, G (m 88 - 161) is a toccata, starting with the piano, which builds up a big shape, to reach the climax in m. 116, and keeps the vivid scene towards the coda (Rehersal H, m. 162 - the end), which stands on the energetic peak at the end of the piece. Commissioned by the Music From Copland House ensemble, supported by a grant from the NYSCA’s Composer’s Commissions program in 2002, my mixed ensemble piece Happy Rain on a Spring Night is written for all five instruments in the ensemble: flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano, and premiered on Oct. 18, 2004, at Merkin Hall in New York.  The musical imagination came from an ancient Chinese poem with the same title, written by Du Fu (712-770) in the Tang Dynasty. Happy Rain on a Spring Nightby Du Fu (712-770 in the Tang Dynasty) Happy rain comes in time,When spring is in its prime. With night breeze it will fall,And quietly moisten all.Clouds darken wild roads,Light brightens a little boat.Saturated at dawn,With flowers blooming the town. (English translation by Chen Yi from the original poem in Chinese) It’s like the welcome rain on a quiet spring night that nurtures the budding seeds; our new society is pushing us forward to the new future.  The music reflects the scenes and the expression according to the meaning of the poem when it’s being unfolded line by line.  Although the tempo is set 60-70 quarter notes per minute throughout (played vividly, never slowing down), the tension is being built up from the quiet background in the beginning, to the sustained climax towards the end. The musical image in Rehearsal A and B (measures 1-41) represents the first four lines of the poem.  The woodwind instruments respond to the rustling of fast moving notes on muted string triplets, decorated by occasional strokes produced by metallic string sound and high piano gestures.  The music in Rehearsal C and D (measures 42-87) represents the next two lines of the poem.  It’s so dark, a little light in the boat is shimmering on the lake...  The breathy key slaps on the flute create a mysterious atmosphere, in a dialogue with other instruments.  The cello glissandi recite the poem in the tone of Mandarin, echoed by the string harmonics.  The music in Rehearsal E, F and G (m 88-161) is a toccata, starting with the piano, which builds up a big shape, to reach the climax in m. 116, and keeps the vivid scene towards the coda (Rehearsal H, m. 162-192), which stands on the energetic peak at the end of the piece. According to the principle of the Golden Section, I have constructed the piece with two large parts (m. 1-115 and m. 116-192).  The GS falls onto the beginning of the climax section of the piece, which is exciting and loud.  All subdivisions of the structures coincide with the numbers of proportions based on the GS principle.  The music has textures changed according to the proportional arrangement throughout the piece. First Part (m. 1-115, total 115 measures), including two sectionsSection I (m. 1-69, total 69 measures), including two divisionsFirst Division (m. 1-41, total 41 measures), including two subdivisions:Subdivision I (m. 1-25, total 25 measures)Rehearsal A, violin triplets + cello metalic sound in small intervals, followed by woodwinds.Subdivision II (m. 26-41, total 16 measures)Rehearsal B, cello triplets + violin metallic sound in small intervals, overlapped by woodwinds.Second Division (m. 42-69, total 28 measures)Rehearsal C, breathy key slaps on flute, in dark.Section II (m. 70-115, total 46 measures), including two divisionsFirst Division (m. 70-87, total 18 measures)Rehearsal D, soft cello reciting, followed by string harmonics & woodwind “echo†passages.Second Division (m. 88-115, total 28 measures)Rehearsal E, starts to buildup the excitement, with piano toccata in the beginning. | Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 16 Piano and Orchestra Breitkopf & Härtel
Piano/harpsichord and orchestra (solo: pno - 2(picc).2.2.2 - 4.2.3.0 - timp - st...(+)
Piano/harpsichord and orchestra (solo: pno - 2(picc).2.2.2 - 4.2.3.0 - timp - str) SKU: BR.PB-15164-07 Urtext. Composed by Edvard Grieg. Edited by E.-G. Heinemann. Orchestra; Softbound. Partitur-Bibliothek (Score Library). Solo concerto; Romantic. Study Score. 108 pages. Duration 30'. Breitkopf and Haertel #PB 15164-07. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.PB-15164-07). ISBN 9790004215906. 6.5 x 9 inches. The piano concerto in a minor stands out in Edvard Grieg's oeuvre. Besides this famous concerto, he composed only a few other large orchestral works. Because of its popularity even in Grieg's lifetime, it was often performed, not least by the composer himself. So it is not surprising that Grieg made many changes to the score up to 1907. But at the same time, the concerto's size, form and substance remained completely unaltered. Interventions in the piano part basically involved subtleties of nuance, and only a very few places in the music text were altered. The situation was different with the orchestration. Here Grieg was keen to experiment and kept filing away at the orchestra sound right up to the last. Melodies were moved to other instruments, accompanying string chords were reconstructed, and above all the list of scored instruments was changed. The main source of the Urtext edition by Ernst-Gunter Heinemann is the new edition of the score originally published in 1907 by C. F. Peters, thus several years after the first edition of 1872. Taken into account in the present edition are the changes that Grieg made up to the time of his death. Piano reduction and fingering by Einar Steen-Nokleberg. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
