Soli ATB, SATB Choir, 2 Fl, 2 Obda, 2 Vl, Va, Bc SKU: CA.3112309 Cantata for Epiphany. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Frieder Rempp. 1x 31.123/21 flute 1, 1x 31.123/22 flute 2, 1x 31.123/23 oboe d'amore 1, 1x 31.123/24 oboe d'amore 2. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Harmony parts. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Epiphany. Set of Orchestra Parts. BWV 123. Duration 22 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.123/09. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3112309). ISBN 9790007207465. Language: German/English. Text: Fritsch, Ahasverus. This six-movement cantata uses the hymn of the same name by Ahasverus Fritsch, first recorded in 1698 in the Darmstadter Liederbuch. This places it amongst those chorale cantatas which use a hymn from the repertoire associated with Pietism. As was customary, the hymn text is retained in the outer movements, whereas the text for the inner movements - two secco recitatives and a tenor and a bass aria - are concerned with the contrast between the hostile world and the certainty of Jesus; the links between the cantata text and the Feast of the Epiphany are correspondingly tenuous. In the first movement the soprano sings the hymn melody complete, accompanied by mainly homophonic vocal parts, whilst the instrumental writing is largely influenced by the melody of the first line of the hymn. Remarkable is the tenor aria, with its contrasting central section and its chromatic twists and turns, in which Bach once again proves himself to be a master of harmony. The demands on the chorus are fairly modest, whereas the instrumentalists are challenged in the first movement and in both the arias. In The Mirror With Three Faces, one can look at three different faces or roles of the same person or at three distinct personalities – each with its own face. Each character (i.e. instrument) may be isolated, in conflict, or in harmony with others and itself. This trio explores individuality and ensemble, harmony and conflict, one in three or three in one – that is the ambiguous nature of this work, structured in the form of a triptych.†(Lera Auerbach). $57.00 - See more - Buy online
| Madrigal Pavane / Timburibá [Score] - Advanced Productions OZ
Guitar solo - Advanced SKU: DZ.DZ-4287 Composed by Francisco Braga. Arran...(+)
Guitar solo - Advanced SKU: DZ.DZ-4287 Composed by Francisco Braga. Arranged by Luciano Lima. Score. Les Productions d'OZ #DZ 4287. Published by Les Productions d'OZ (DZ.DZ-4287). ISBN 9782898522048. Antônio Francisco Braga (1868-1945) belongs to the generation of Brazilian composers of the first republican period, aesthetically tied to romanticism, alongside Henrique Oswald (1852-1931), Leopoldo Miguez (1850-1902), Glauco Velásquez (1884-1914), and Barrozo Neto (1881-1941). Born in Rio de Janeiro, on April 15th, 1868, he began his musical studies at the Asilo dos Meninos Desvalidos, in 1876. In 1883, he enrolled at the Imperial Conservatório de Música where he studied harmony and counterpoint with Carlos de Mesquita – a former student of César Franck, Durand, and Massenet – and clarinet with Antônio Luís de Moura. Braga's first compositions date from this period: Sonho de Dante (1885), Dolce far niente (1886), the first Valse Romantique for piano (1886), among others. In 1887, he premiered his first symphonic work, Fantasia-Abertura. In 1890, being one of the finalists in a competition to choose the new Brazilian national anthem, Braga was awarded a scholarship to study in Europe, where he took classes with Jules Massenet at the Paris Conservatory. During this period, he wrote some of his most important symphonic works, Paysage, Cauchemar, Episódio Sinfônico, and Marabá (which was performed by Richard Strauss and the Vienna Philharmonic in 1920, in Brazil). His opera Jupyra is considered one of the greatest Brazilian compositions of that genre. Back in Brazil, he was appointed professor of counterpoint, fugue, and composition at the Instituto Nacional de Música, in 1902. There, some of the finest Brazilian composers studied with him, like Glauco Velásquez and Lorenzo Fernândez. Braga wrote operas, symphonic works, songs, sacred music, two Masses, music for piano, different chamber formations, band, and choir. He is the author of many patriotic hymns, the most popular of which is Hino à Bandeira (with lyrics by Olavo Bilac). He explored Brazilian nationalist elements in some of his works, as in Variações sobre um Tema Brasileiro and in the Trio for violin, cello and piano, whose third movement is based on a lundu (a musical genre and dance of Afro-Brazilian origin). In addition to being a composer, Braga was one of the most active conductors of his time, having been ahead of three orchestras in Rio de Janeiro: Instituto Nacional de Música, Sociedade de Concertos Sinfônicos, and Theatro Municipal. Braga conducted the Brazilian premiere of major symphonic works such as La Mer (Debussy), Pacific 231 (Honegger) besides other numerous Brazilian compositions. In 1938, he retired from Instituto Nacional de Música. He passed away on March 14th, 1945, in Rio de Janeiro. Unfortunately, Francisco Braga never wrote for the guitar. However, over a century ago his music had already been incorporated to its repertoire. According to information found in newspapers of the time, Spanish guitarist Josefina Robledo included transcriptions of pieces by Braga in her programs when she performed in Brazil: Gavota e Minuete (from the melodrama Contratador de Diamantes), in 1919, in São Paulo, and the waltz-caprice Corrupio, in 1921, in Rio de Janeiro. The piano score of Madrigal Pavane was dedicated to Alexina Leitão and published by Casa Vieira Machado, in 1901. According to the composer’s catalogue, there are two other versions of this piece: strings orchestra (1901) and quartet (which is still in manuscript). Dedicated to Braga’s childhood friend José de Souza Rocha, Timburibá (the name of a Brazilian tree) is a tango for piano from 1886, published by Narciso & Arthur Napoleão.
Guitarra (Guitar) y Piano SKU: BO.B.3106 Composed by Jordi Cervello. Plucked Instruments. Duration 21:00. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3106). ISBN 9788480201940. English comments: With reference to the melody used to write the Fanstasia-Concerto, the composer Jordi Cervello says: A few years ago, a friend of mine, Jorge Wagensberg sang me a beautiful old Jewish melody inspired by the hymn Leja Dodi (Come, my beloved) by the Sefardie cabbalist Solomon Alkabez (1505-1576), who is buried in Israel. I was immediately entranced by its two extensive thematic ideas which complement each other perfectly. Its melodic and folk qualities seemed to me to make it an ideal theme for a work for guitar and orchestra. The orchestration is a fine thread of metallic timbres, which are present both in the very delicate subtleties of the pianissimi passages and the brilliant tutti. Moreover, the cler tonal definition of the melody contrasts with audacious harmonic contrapunctual textures, characteristic of the most advanced musical styles of our times. The solo guitar part is a model piece of compositon for the guitar, both for its melody and harmony. It puts forward extremely original formulas which are very effective from an instrumental point of view. Its abundant use of arpeggios, chords, harmonic pedals and other instrumental resources ensure that the dialogue with the orchestra is based completely on guitar-playing techniques, putting the guitarist's expressive skill and mastery to the test. This work was first performed on December 3 1997 in Sabadell's La Farandula Theatre performed by the Valles Symphonic Orchestra conducted by its permanent conductor Salvador Brotons. The guitar solo part was played by Jaume Torrent, to whom the work is dedicated.
$23.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Flute duo and piano SKU: P2.10035 Composed by Josh Oxford. Chamber music, 20th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.10035). In twelve tone music, all twelve chromatic pitches are arranged so that all twelve notes are played without repeating. The chromatic scale is a basic example of this concept. This technique was initially used to free composers from the dogmas of functional harmony. Many frown upon this technique because it often creates ugly music that is dissonant and atonal. There's even a technique called total serialism where dynamics and articulations, along with pitches, are also serialized. I found that by harmonizing every note with consonant chords that plane well, such as sus2 chords or major 7th chords, it's possible to create very tonal and tuneful music-- tonal serialism. Experimenting with this technique has led to music that sounds, at times, reminiscent of Eric Ewazen, hence the title A Ways In.... $19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

ATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 flutes, 2 oboes d'amore, 2 violins, viola, basso c...(+)
ATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 flutes, 2 oboes d'amore, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3112305 Cantata for Epiphany. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Frieder Rempp. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Epiphany. Choral Score. BWV 123. 4 pages. Duration 22 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.123/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3112305). ISBN 9790007166519. Text language: German/English. Edited by Frieder Rempp. 1x 31.121/21 oboe d'amore, 2x 31.121/31 Cornetto, Trombone 1, 2x 31.121/32 trombone 2 and 3. Hymns by Martin Luther: Christum wir sollen loben schon; Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Harmony parts. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Christmas. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed 1724. BWV 121. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.121/09. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3112109). ISBN 9790007207335. Language: German/English. This six-movement chorale cantata was first performed on 26 December 1724. The text is based on the Lutheran translation of the early Christian hymn A solis ortus cardinem. The outer movements frame two arias for tenor and bass, and two secco recitatives for alto and soprano. The first and sixth movements are in old-fashioned style, with four-part vocal writing and colla parte instruments. In the aria (movement 2) the tenor is accompanied by an obbligato oboe d'amore, and in the 4th and most striking movement, the three string parts accompany the bass. The demands on the singers, instrumentalists, and chorus are typical of a Bach cantata. Published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc (MB.97884). ISBN 9780786652808. UPC: 796279075428. 8.75 x 11.75 inches. By Bret Willmott. Many polyrhythms and polymeters simultaneous combinations of more than one rhythmic pattern exist in todays music, with some being so common they could be referred to as rhythm licks. This book presents a unique and comprehensive approach to polymetric applications of various rhythms over common chord progressions and song forms in 3/4 and 4/4, written primarily for instruments with chordal capabilities. Non-chordal instrumentalists interested in rhythmic development and contemporary phrasing may also benefit. Polymetric rhythms will force a variety of harmonic anticipations and delays which can have a profound and beneficial effect on harmonic, melodic, and improvisational phrasing. In addition, the focused attention and expanded awareness needed to master these exercises can also help in your sensitivity and response to the surrounding environment and your interactions with other musicians and audience. $29.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
