(+)
It was the ?Slavonic Dances for Piano Duet? op. 46 which brought Antonín Dvorák unexpected international fame. An unerring business instinct led Fritz Simrock, at the beginning of 1878, to ask the Czech composer for some works for piano duet into which Dvorák incorporated musical themes from where he grew up. Following in the footsteps of Brahms?s ?Hungarian Dances?, Dvorák refrained from a literal portrayal of individual kinds of dance. As a result, he created unique masterpieces of European music for domestic use and concert performance.'
'
This edition of both series of the ?Slavonic Dances? is based on the ?Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvorák?. The main sources are the first editions published by Simrock.'

(+)
After working for three years at the NationalConservatory in New York, Dvorak returnedhome in 1895 feeling extraordinarily happy. The fruit of this ecstatic periodare thecomposer's last two string quartets. The Quartet in G major, Op. 106, waswrittenimmediately after his return from America. The melodic freshness of the light, airythemes, alternating folk idioms in a temperate, unobtrusive musical allusion, betraysthe composer's maturity and mastery. The editor of this work, published as partof the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak, is FrantisekBartos.

Par DVORAK ANTONIN. On 18 January 1887 Antonín Dvorák (1841–1904) started composing his Romantic Pieces for violin and piano, opus 75 (B 150), completing that version on 25 January. They were performed for the first time in a private house two days later, with the composer writing to his publisher in Berlin: ‘Played here yesterday and very well received.’ For this edition reference has been made to a copy of the original manuscript and to the first edition. The small number of bow markings in the violin part of the piano score are original and have been left unaltered. These four contrasting movements are a welcome addition to the violin repertoire and a very effective alternative to Dvorák’s large-scale violin works, the Concerto in A minor and Romance in F minor. / Niveau : Avancé / Répertoire / Violon et Piano

(+)
Symphony No. 8 In G Major Op. 88. With its Bohemian echoes and thematic diversity, Symphony No. 8 enjoys a special status among lovers of Antonín Dvorák's music. For a long time, the performance material for this work has been notorious for its myriad mistakes. For his edition of Dvorák's 8th Symphony, editor Jonathan Del Mar was therefore faced with the task of making comprehensive corrections. He has taken into account the engraver?s copy, which was actually discovered in a trash bin at Novello?s in 1964. Its title page bears the words ?Copied from my original manuscript? in Dvorák?s hand. This source proves that many of the readings contained in the first edition and faithfully adopted in all subsequent editions, were simply slips of the copyist?s pen. This study score edition is complemented by the full score and orchestral parts (BA10418).

Instrument : piano (4 hands) Series : Edition Schott - Single Edition Nombre de Pages : 10 It is with the 'Slavonic Dances' op. 46 that Antonín Dvorák won international recognition in 1878. Apart from Symphony No. 9, 'From the New World', and Cello Concerto op. 104, they are among the best-known works by Dvorák. Unlike Brahms in his 'Hungarian Dances', Dvorák did not use any original melodies but incorporated characteristic elements of Slavonic dance music within his own melodic invention.

With marked and unmarked string part-In 1873 following the rejection of his opera 'The King and the Charcoal Burner' Anton n Dvorák reached somewhat of a turning point in his career. Inspired to give his compositions a new direction he started to writepieces such as his String Quartet In F Minor Op. 9 in a new style that was less orientated towards Wagner. However much to his disappointment this new style was rejected by musicians. Notwithstanding this painful experienceDvorák gave the slow movement of the quartet a second chance reworking it as a Romance For Violin Or Orchestra In F Minor. It was first performed in 1877 to great acclaim. The fingerings and bowings byAntje Weithaas lend the Henle Urtext Edition of this jewel of Violin literature a special touch.

Study score format 22 5 x 16 5cm.Like Dvorákâ??s third and fourth quartets (in D major and E minor respectively) String Quartet No.2 In B-Flat Major was probably composed between 1868 and 1870 when the young and still inexperienced composer was openly responding to stimuli from his musical surroundings and excitedly adopting new compositional techniques. All three quartets were long considered lost; it was even said that Dvorák destroyed them. But copies of the parts resurfaced in the archive of the Prague Conservatory and have served as the principal source for this new publication. This edition presents the musical text fromthe â??Anton n Dvorák Complete Editionâ? together with a new foreword by Hartmut Schick.- Musical text based on the â??Anton n Dvorák Complete Editionâ? volume IV/5.- New foreword by Hartmut Schick (Ger/Cz/Eng).- Parts available BA9540.

Early piano quintet for Piano 2 Violins Viola VioloncelloIn 1887 Anton n Dvorák revised several of the works he had composed in the 1860s and 1870s most of which he then published for the first time.In this context he asked the music critic Ludev t Procházka to return a manuscript copy of the Piano Quintet in A major Op.5 (B 28) composed 15 years earlier. But after thoroughly revising the work he declined to publish it; instead he wrote a new piano quintet in the same key the famous Op.81. And so the manuscript copy he requested from Procházka remains the sole source for this early piece of chamber music.Dvorák?s first Piano Quintet in A majorwas never published during his lifetime. This edition presents the musical text from the ?Complete Edition of the Works of Anton n Dvorák? Volume IV/11.Now with a new detailed Foreword (Eng/Cz/Ger) by David R. Beveridge
