The second movement of the cantata Gott, man lobet dich in der Stille BWV 120 became particularly well-known through its re-use in the Credo of the Mass in B minor. The cantata is one of six surviving cantatas for inaugurations of the Leipzig Town Council from the pen of Johann Sebastian Bach. Although the autograph manuscript score can be dated to around 1742, it is not known precisely which town council inauguration the work was performed at. Score available separately - see item CA.3112000.

Also known as Prosa in Nativitáte Dómini or the Portugese Hymn, Adeste, Fideles has been used at Benediction at Christmastide in France and England since the end of the eighteenth century. It invites all the faithful to come to Bethlehem to worship the newborn Savious. Although more than forty different English translations were made, Oakeley's translation O Come, All Ye Faithful was the most preferred, with additional verses translated by W.T. Brooke. All in all, the hymn has been translated into at least 125 languages and is one of the most popular of all Christmas hymns.

Dream Engine is a concert overture in classic ABA form. Opening with a tuneful melody that weaves throughout the ensemble over staccato accompaniments, the piece then evolves into a contrastingly lyrical and beautifully lush B section. As with the rest of Clark's work, Dream Engine blends musicality with teachability and is perfect for your next contest or festival.

The new edition of BWV 118 presents the work in the two different instrumental settings that are authenticated through the autograph scores: the earlier version with solely brass instruments, and the later one with mixed instruments. Both versions are printed consecutively. Of particular interest for an authentic performance are two Litui, which are called for in both versions. To this day it has been impossible to determine what instruments are meant here: high horns in B flat? Or trumpets? The work has more unanswered questions for us for example, the occasion for which the first version was written in ca. 1736/37, and the reason why the work was newly orchestrated after 1740.

One of the most ambitious of Kalevi Aho's composition projects has been to write a concerto for each of the main instruments in the Romantic symphony orchestra. In 2011, with the Horn Concerto (the eighteenth in the series) this project was approaching its conclusion. In the Horn Concerto the soloist does not stand in front next to the conductor but moves around several times during the course of the work. The horn's first entries are heard from backstage. After that the soloist becomes visible and plays from behind the orchestra, moving gradually from left to right while playing. In the end, the hornist leaves the stage again. This gives the work a ritualistic character - as if the solo horn brings something from afar to the audience and orchestra and, when all is said and done, disappears from view. The concerto contains a number of sections of varying character, slower and faster. The fast sections are rather virtuosic for the orchestra as well. For the tarantella-like passage in the second half of the work, the soloist has moved to a position behind the winds of the orchestra, where an exchange commences with the orchestra's hornist. After that, the soloist moves to the rearmost part of the stage and, by the time of the final notes, is already offstage. The concerto for horn and chamber orchestra can be performed by a group with around twenty performers (1(+picc).1.1(+cl.b).1-1000-01-str(44331)). The duration is c. 27 minutes.Solo part available for sale (ISMN 9790550117396). Orchestral material available for hire from the publisher. Harri Wessman's Pan and the Nymph Pitys (1979) for flute and guitar bears the first symptoms of his later style, the texture being softly dissonant. In an old mythological dictionary the composer found that Pan had had some love affair with an other nymph than famous Syrinx as well, with Pitys (greek pine-tree). So the listener may think of Pan in the vital A-sections and imagine the nymph in the languishing B-section and coda of the ABA form.Towards the Night (1978) for flute and guitar belongs to Wessman's previous world of tonal entertainment music. It is a melodious ballad, characterized by a short-long rhythm, a lot of seventh and altered chords and a passage, where the guitar takes the leed and plays the melody in tremolo. This product includes a playing score (folder, B4 sized).

The St. John Passion, Bach's first passion oratorio, can hardly be understood asonework. Between 1724 and 1750 the work was performed at least four times in various Leipzig churches under the composer's direction and for every one of these occasions it was revised - sometimes quite substantially. This edition presents the St. John Passion in its second version of 1725, of which only excerpts were rendered in the New Bach Edition volume II/4 (1973). This version as well as the last one of 1749 constitute the two versions that have come down to us almost in their entirety. Most recently found sources - in particular the libretto print of the passion rediscovered in 2015 - are taken into consideration in this edition for the first time.

The Missa Dei Patris ZWV 19 was composed in 1740 and ranks among the later works of the Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. It opens an incompletely transmitted cycle of six masses which the composer himself designated as Missae ultimae. The musical text of the present conductor's score is based on that of Volume 93 of the Denkmaler edition Das Erbe deutscher Musik. The new piano vocal score has been edited by the reputable expert Andreas Kohs. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting? I think that he still has several surprises for us. (Schweizerische Musikzeitung)Zelenka's Masses - fine specimens of Baroque choral literature, some parts of which are set even more colorfully than in the corresponding compositions by Bach. Kalevi Aho's (b. 1949) concerto no. 2 for cello and orchestra (2013) is in five movements performed without a break. It begins with a swinging Berceuse, followed by a very quick, virtuosic Presto in 5/8 time. The heart of the concerto is the cadenza-like third movement, Adagio, dominated throughout by the soloist. A fairly short Allegretto is followed by the closing Epilogue. This has flashbacks to the opening movement, and they lead to a cadenza in which the soloist plays only flageolet notes and pizzicatos. The concerto ends with a virtuosic coda in 5/8 time evocative of the second movement.Arto Noras gave the concerto its first performance with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä in Naantali on June 5, 2014. It was a joint commission from the Naantali Music Festival and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. This product consists of the solo part (18 pages) and piano reduction by Kari Vehmanen (62 pages) - have a look inside by clicking “sample. The concerto is scored for a fairly small orchestra. The instrumentation is 2(II=afl)2(II=ca)2(II=bcl)2-2200-bar-02-str and the orchestral material is available for hire from the publisher.
