The Goldberg Variations is arguably one of the greatest works of art in Western culture. A true work of genius that was first published in 1741 for harpsichord. The Aria a Sarabande about 5 minutes in length in 3/4 is the very first movement of the 30 variation work and is heavily ornamented. Justin Chiang has doubled the time to 6/4 and written out all of the ornaments, making the performance possibilities much more practical. This work is appropriate for advanced performers for the following instruments: 2 Trumpets in C, Horn in F, Trombone and Tuba (Bass Trombone).

Bach's Motet Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf (The Spirit gives aid to our weakness) BWV 226 was composed in 1729. The Motet was written for the funeral of the blessed rector Ernesti, Professor of poetry at Leipzig University. It is written for eight voices of two four-part choirs. Mr. Sauer has done a magnificent job transcribing all six of Bach's choral motets BWV 225-230 for 8-part Trombone Ensemble. This is a major undertaking. All are very worthy additions to the Trombone Ensemble repertoire. This work for double 4-part choir of three movements is about 7 1/2 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers. The top voices in each choir have parts supplied in both alto and tenor clef.

This is a major undertaking. All are very worthy additions to the Trombone Ensemble repertoire. This work of three movements is about 13 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers. Mr Sauer suggests, Since a complete performance of this Motet is about thirteen minutes in length, any of the three movements may be performed separately. The top voices in each choir have parts supplied in both alto and tenor clef.

Prelude and Fugue in C BWV is taken from the Eight Short Preludes and Fugues, a collection of works for keyboard that were most likely used as teaching pieces for beginners. There has been back and forth about the attribution of these works, but most scholars agree that they are by Bach, just simplified for his students. Matthew McCrady has beautifully arranged this 4-5 minute work for Brass Quintet and included parts in C and B-flat for the Trumpets.
