By Gaspar Sanz Arranged For Uke-This volume contains 20 pieces by the famous Baroque guitarist Gaspar Sanz (1640 - 1710) arranged specially for the Ukulele. Sanz' works are tuneful and memorable with fiery cross-rhythms and cascading scalepassages. He published three books of Guitar music. The baroque Guitar could be viewed as a close relative of the Ukulele. Indeed the two instruments have much in common. The smaller four-course Guitar actually had thesame tuning as the Ukulele for example although it was largely double-strung.Sanz enjoyed playing scales in the campanella style with the notes of a scale set out on different strings sonically overlappingslightly in the style of little bells. This is a technique the Ukulele excels at and is used to good effect in these arrangements.Sanz' music for baroque Guitar transfers exceptionally well to the Ukulele asthese arrangements demonstrate. It is hoped that this repertoire will bring a refreshing addition to the repertoire of the Ukulele just as the little instrument can bring a freshness to these old but lively pieces. Includesaccess to online audio.

Trilogie Sacrée. Par BERLIOZ HECTOR. The history of the composition of the orat...(+)
Trilogie Sacrée. Par BERLIOZ HECTOR. The history of the composition of the oratorio is odd: the kernel of this three-part work were the movements from the middle section, the “Flight to Egypt, ” which Berlioz composed on a whim in 1850 and which he passed off as the work of a baroque composer whose existence he himself had invented. In 1854 the triptych, which was completed with the parts entitled “The dream of Herodes” and “The arrival at Sais, ” had its celebrated first performance. Starting from the Gospel of St. Matthew, with the visit of the astrologer to Herodes and the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt, Berlioz chose to relate the story of the events of Christmas from another angle, other than as it is almostalways depicted, after the Gospel of Luke. This skillful dramatisation, with impressive instrumental sections, such as the independent trio for two flutes and harp as well as the effective choruses with local color, make this “sacred trilogy” a genuine alternative for performance at Christmas time. The score, published in 1855, contained a second singing text in German which had been translated from the French by Peter Cornelius. The critical edition by Carus presents a new translation by Klaus Kreuser which, as opposed to the text by Cornelius, adheres more closely to the French original and avoids becoming an embellished idyll. / Oratorio / Répertoire / Solistes STBarB, Choeur SATB, 2 Flûtes Traversière

On the occasion of the marriage of her son Archduke Ferdinand of Austria to the Princess Maria Ricciarda Beatrice of Modena the Empress Maria Theresia commissioned the young Mozart to compose the work Serenata Teatrale “Ascanio in Alba”. The librettist the Viennese Abate Guiseppe Parini one of the most outstanding poets of the 18th century wrote a baroque-designed libretto which paid homage to and congratulated the royal couple.Mozart wrote the music in only a few weeks from the end of August until 23 September 1771. The first performance took place on 17 October 1771 in Milan to rousing success. Shortly thereafter LeopoldMozart wrote that his son's composition had so overpowered the main performance of Hasses opera “Il Ruggierio ” from the previous day that he could hardly describe it.- Urtext of the New Mozart Edition- Full score (BA4504-01) and vocal score (BA4504-90) available for sale- Performance material (BA4504-72) available for hire
