| Canti Notturnali Fennica Gehrman
Guitar, cello SKU: FG.55011-324-5 Composed by Kai Nieminen. Playing score...(+)
Guitar, cello SKU: FG.55011-324-5 Composed by Kai Nieminen. Playing score. Fennica Gehrman #55011-324-5. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-324-5). Canti Notturnali for cello and guitar has two movements played attacca, duration about 12-13 minutes. The harmonic and melodic material uses mainly the scale build from the open strings of both instruments. Because the guitar has an atypical scordatura (Eb,Ab,D,G,Bb,E) the scale is C,D,Eb,E,G,Ab,A,Bb. According to the composer, the inspiration for this piece came to him during his stay in Lapland. One can imagine, that in the first movement (Spettrale) one is wandering in Lapland during the Kaamos time (a Finnish word for the polar night). Surrounded by the blue twilight you are not anymore sure if all the disturbing noises are made by wind and nature . Or maybe the spirits are trying to scare you? The anticipation rises until the end of the I movement and discharges to the dance-like II movement (Notturnale). Now the spirits are dancing and singing together with the nature ,,a lullaby until the night and darkness comes. $19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Brass Ensemble SKU: HL.14023608 Composed by Michael Nyman. Music Sales America. Classical. Book [Softcover]. Composed 2004. 32 pages. Chester Music #CH60866. Published by Chester Music (HL.14023608). ISBN 9780711932982. 9.0x12.0x0.128 inches. Score for this piece, which was comissioned by London Brass and first performed in 1992. Quoting composer: The piece was completed without title on 12th August 1992. A title once considered was Canons, Chorales and Waltzes, but this was dropped since there was only one canon (the opening) and only genuine waltz (apart from a passage towards the end which superimposes the canon over a waltz rhythm). The following day I read the paper that John Cage had died - the day I finished writing. For this reason, but mainly because Cage was the most revolutionary practical music thinker of the 20th century, this piece is dedicated to him. His influence on my music may be perceived under the 'very un-Cagein' surface: though stylistically there may be little in For John Cage that may have been to his taste, I hope he would at least have appreciated its diversity, its non-simultaneous multiplicity. Solo flute SKU: P2.10026 Composed by Alice Gomez. Solo music, 20th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.10026). Black Pearls presents the feelings of anxiety and sorrow that I had after reading The Pearl by American author, John Steinbeck. The story features a poor Mexican pearl diver, Kino, and his wife and son. One day Kino's son, Coyotito, became very ill from a scorpion sting. Kino rushed his son to the doctor, however, the doctor would not treat Coyotito because the family had no money. Kino had discovered a very large black pearl, and had hoped to sell it for money to pay the doctor. Little did he know that possessing the enormous black pearl would cause him so much trouble. Steinbeck's story explores man's nature, as well as greed and evil. $14.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Bass Clarinet and Piano SKU: IS.BCP6012EM Composed by Johan Favoreel. Woodwinds - Bass Clarinet / Basset Horn. Jan Gans Series. Metropolis Music Publishers #BCP6012EM. Published by Metropolis Music Publishers (IS.BCP6012EM). ISBN 9790365060122. Johan Favoreel studied at the Royal Music Academy in Brussels. Being producer with the Belgian Broadcasting Company since 1982, he made several CD-recordings with a.o. the BRTN-Filharmonic orchestra and choir. Other projects include CD-recordings for various chambermusic ensembles, the ‘Proms’, opera,... As a composer and arranger, Johan Favoreel writes regularly for symphonic orchestra, wind ensembles, voices,... . His favourite instrument is the clarinet. This charming miniature for bass clarinet and piano pictures an imaginary ancient heavy-weight Greek God Zebus (the warm mild and mellow sound of a heavy-weight clarinet), enjoying life sitting in the sun while eating and drinking wine. The idea to take part in a hunting party (the faster tempo) excites him, but because he is so tired everything stays calm and nice. Life continues as it was. $17.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

| Grounds For Solo Double Bass Double Bass Boosey and Hawkes
Double Bass SKU: BT.YE0007 Yorke Edition. Composed by F. Baines. B...(+)
Double Bass SKU: BT.YE0007 Yorke Edition. Composed by F. Baines. Book Only. Yorke Edition #YE0007. Published by Yorke Edition (BT.YE0007). Born in Oxford in 1917, Francis Baines was a well-known and much respected professional double bass player. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London with Claude Hobday, where he later taught. Something of an eccentric,he immersed himself in early music at a time when few people were taking it seriously. He owned a beautiful Amati bass that he had restored as a violone, which it probably was originally, and he was a regular fixture as aprincipal player in a number of orchestras and ensembles that dedicated themselves to period performing, including those directed by Denys Darlow, with whom he broadcast and recorded frequently.
Besides playing thedoublebass, Francis Baines was an exponent of the treble viol and led the Jaye Consort of Viols which he founded. He also played several kinds of bagpipe and the hurdy-gurdy. As a composer he dabbled in many styles, one of hisgreatest claims to fame being that of writing for the popular Hoffnung concerts in the 1960s.
He was the author of a number of papers about the history of the double bass, sometimes arriving at scholarly conclusionsthat were colourful, if not always entirely accurate. He discovered the Giovannino del Violone sonatas, subsequently published by Yorke Edition, although today it is thought that they were probably not written for a 16' pitchinstrument at all. His edition of the Capuzzi double bass concerto, published by Boosey & Hawkes, was for many years one of the few solo works available for the instrument. This, however, he largely re-composed because hethought it could be improved: towards the end of his life he confessed that with hindsight he probably should have treated it differently.
Grounds was written in 1969 as a sort of party piece and was given to YorkeEdition in support of a drive to enlarge the repertoire for the instrument in a wide variety of styles. It was set on the syllabus of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for many years.

Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Guitar, Vibraphone, Piano Chamber SKU: HL.140...(+)
Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Guitar, Vibraphone, Piano Chamber SKU: HL.14008995 Composed by Poul Ruders. Music Sales America. Classical. Score. 36 pages. Music Sales #KP00055. Published by Music Sales (HL.14008995). ISBN 9788759878217. Danish. Poul Ruders DIFERENCIASDIFERENCIAS was an old Spanish naming of musical compositions dealing with various techniques involving theme and variation. In modern Spanish it simply means differences. It's a nice title, however, and as to the present piece, a very fitting one indeed, because I wrote it especially to The Elsinore Players for their South America-tour in 1981.Actually nothing happens to the clipping of wellknown Bach (the first four bars of the chorale: jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, cantata No. 147), apart from the continuous changing of the succession-pattern of the 11 triplets and one duplet, the latter of which creates the recognizable 8/8 pattern amidst the flow of 9/8 spinnrad-rolling. To put it popularly, I haven't included anything that Bach does not have in the book himself. In addition to that, the unpredictable accents and various instrumental colours are the only means of differences. There are no modulations, no tricky polyphony, nothing but a long, thoughtful tasting the beautiful piece of tune. Well, of course, the chorale itself enters the picture in the very last section, but that is merely for me to have the pleasure of tossing it away again before it comes to a proper end. Finally, I really do think, that the Cage/Morgan poem quoted below, is the most suitable prologue to DIFERENCIAS:14 variations on 14 wordsI have nothing to say and I am saying it and that is poetry. John CageI have to say poetry and is that nothing and I am saying itI am and I have poetry to say and is that nothing saying itI am nothing and I have poetry to say and that is saying itI that am saying poetry have nothing and it is I and to sayAnd I say that I am to have poetry and saying it is nothingI am poetry and nothing and saying it is to say that I haveTo have nothing is poetry and I am saying that and I say itPoetry is saying I have nothing and I am to say that and itSaying nothing I am poetry and I have to say that and it isIt is and I am and I have poetry saying say that to nothingIt is saying poetry to nothing and I say I have and am that Poetry is saying I have it and I am nothing and to say that And that nothing is poetry I am saying and I have to say itSaying poetry is nothing and to that I say I am and have itEdwin MorganPoul Ruders. $39.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Carus Verlag #CV 70.065/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.7006500). ISBN 9790007165994. Language: German. In spring 1816 Franz Schubert, just nineteen years old, completed his second setting of the Stabat Mater in the midst of a highly productive period. In contrast with his first setting written the previous year, just five minutes in length, this time Schubert used the German translation by Klopstock as the basis for his composition. Stefan Schuck's edition is the first one of this work to be based on a critical evaluation of the primary sources, with complete performance material. The work, in a dark F minor, with its text by Klopstock, places Jesus Christ, rather than Mary, at the center of the contemplation. With his fugues, but particularly in the eight-part lamenting chorus Wer wird Zahren sanften Mitleids, Schubert shows himself at the height of his creative output. He composed his 4th Symphony, the Tragic, at almost the same time. The Stabat Mater is a rewarding work for choral societies and choirs to perform, because the choir has the largest portion to sing, and the choral parts are not too demanding. The composition is also a beautiful introduction to the choral-symphonic music of Schubert for less experienced choirs. $83.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
