Incorporating complex rhythms, harmony, melodies and his passion for ornithology, his Catalogue of Birds for Piano is no exception to the composer's popular, distinctive style. Catalogue of Birds, composed in 1958, comprises thirteen movements, each depicting a specific bird. The third volume contains movements five and six; Tawny Owl and Woodlark. An arrangement of one of the songs from The Little Prince, a fabulous, moving and melodic opera by Rachel Portman with luxurious counter melodies and placid harmonies. This opera is based on French philosopher and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery's novella, Le Petit Prince, an international classic penned in 1943. It was composed by Rachel Portman, the first woman to win an Oscar for a film score (Emma-1996), with text by Nicholas Wright. While Saint-Exupery's moving parable of self-discovery is the foundation of the opera's appeal, it is Portman's music that gives the work its dramatic impact. The characters are brought to life and portrayed with a delicate combination of humour and poignancy. This SSA and Piano arrangement of The Birds by Richard Allain.

The baby birds are getting bigger and it's time for them to leave the nest and try to fly. But not this little batch of nesters! They have decided they like their snug little nest and all of the amenities it offers. Why leave home when it's so nice and safe right here? Through the course of this musical, all of the other birds - including rapping raptors, humming hummingbirds, honking geese and more - will work to convince the babies that eventually everyone has to try to fly and make it on their own. And when you do, you might just soar! This charming 25-minute musical features five original songs and easy-to-learn rhyming dialog with over 30 speaking parts. The enhanced Teacher Edition includes piano/vocal arrangements with choreography, helpful production guide with staging and costume suggestions, PLUS an enclosed CD-ROM with reproducible singer and speaking parts. Full score for Bent Sorensen's Birds And Bells, a Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra. Birds and Bells was composed in 1995 for the Swedish trombonist Christian Lindberg. As the title suggests it is not a 'roaring' trombone concerto but rather a 'pianissimo concerto' filled with the contents of the title. It must be emphasized that 'bells' here has nothing to do with death or destruction which connoisseurs of my music might be tempted to think. The work is in three movements which are played without a break. The second movement ends with a kind of 'pseudo-nightingale cadenza', and I feel the third to be a slow lullaby. oBirds and Bellso was premiered on 30 April 1996, with Christian Lindberg and the Aarhus Sinfonietta conducted by Soren K. Hansen. Bent Sorensen. Solo Trombone part also available: 14042072.

Bent Sorensen THE BIRDS OF LAMENTMany years ago I heard the Irish myth about the Bird of Lament, the bird whose cries at night augur the death of a sailor at sea. My piece is full of 'lamento' whereas traces of birds only occur sporadically.'The Birds of Lament' is the third piece in my trombone trilogy which also contains 'The Bells of Vineta' for trombone solo and 'Birds and Bells' for trombone and ensemble. The piece was written for the Ensemble L'Itiniraire as a commission from the Gulbenkian Foundation.Bent Sorensen.

This piece for wordless voice and small ensemble was composed as part of Ellen Reid's Soundwalk, a site-specific work created for urban parks around the world. The title comes from Christian Cooper, a black birdwatcher whose confrontation with a white dogwalker in Central Park, New York, in 2020 made headlines around the world and on social media. In the piece, ReidÂ’s music imitates the birdsong of the various species that Cooper listed in an interview with her, the final words of the interview giving the work its title.

Featuring an impressive ending that starts softly, and builds to an powerful climax, Raptors: Birds of Prey will provide an exciting and dramatic moment for your next concert.

Written in honor of the Béla Bartók centennial, MUSIQUE NOCTURNES is inspired by one of his most characteristic and original works, the fourth piece (by the same title), from the suite Out of Doors. Both pieces feature overlapping “night musics†– atmospheric cluster figures, sharply contrasting motifs suggesting nocturnal bird, frog, or insect sounds, and an element of human, folksong-like melody as Levinson alludes to the authentic Hungarian folksong, “Tiszán innen, Dunán túl.â€.This simple piece was written in 2015 as a birthday present for the composer’s wife, poet and fellow bird lover Nanine Valen, and is a distant sequel to Canons and Chorale, which he wrote for her in 1969. The ornithological character is an affectionate tribute as well to his teacher Olivier Messiaen. The titular birds are a highly stylized chickadee and two song sparrows.First public performance: Swarthmore College, November 13, 2016, by Marcantonio Barone, whose editorial assistance in the preparation of this edition is gratefully acknowledged. Recorded by Marcantonio Barone on Innova 948.
