I got the word ambig[uous] from Thomas Bauer: Die Vereindeutigung der Welt (Stuttgart: Reclam 2018). In this booklet, the author speaks out against a restrictive, perhaps even limited unambiguity and sets fundamentaism against cultures of ambiguity. Born out of the duality of the human body, I work in this piece with two hands, two fingers, two feet and the combinations of sound and touch developed from them. Only at the end, a new (double or single) sound is added. This does not at all correspond to a cohesive concept of material, just as the use of our body limbs in reverse is deliberately very close to the subject, even when several performers play synchronously or choreographed. In Schnebel's case, this was still material available to everyone. I think of it more as a counter to VR (virtual reality). I do like to still be able to open my refrigerator with my own hand, and not have a hacker interfering. In Clash Music, a pair of cymbals, the proletarians of many kinds of music, is elevated to an instrument capable of expression and structure. Clash Music and ambig ought to be played together as one piece - rather RV than VR! Added as a third piece can be rappig (25 seconds, see page IV). Chicharra was born out of a love for syncopated music that makes one move and dance. A rhythmic motive initiated by the viola and cello sections starts the diabolical journey of dance and lyricism. The syncopated, driving rhythms initiated by the low strings are contrasted by lyrical lines played in the violin and viola sections. A contrasting, lyrical B section, in 6/8, almost waltz-like, shows a softer side of this dance journey. Various tango elements are also found in this piece such as special effects like the glissandi in the cello section, and the chicharra played by the violins. The chicharra should be played behind the bridge on the D string with extra finger weight, very close to the tailpiece - this sound imitates the chicharra or cricket!.

Virgo is a lush and dramatic piece for string orchestra that reflects upon lost loved ones. In the case of the composer, it is a remembrance of his late brother whose astrological sign was virgo. It is an emotional harmonic journey with well-place dissonance tied together by a memorable motive. Musically, this piece is pure emotion and will stretch your young musicians to strive for musical elegance.
Virgo is a lush and dramatic piece for string orchestra that is intended to reflect upon lost loved ones. In the case of the composer, it is a remembrance of his late brother, Scott Andrew Sweet. The title of the piece refers to the astrological sign ofthe composer’s brother, who was born on September 19, 1970. Virgo is dedicated to his memory.The piece utilizes many close-knit intervals and dissonances and care should be taken throughout the work to ensure that these intervals blend evenly into a singular sonority. The piece begins with an introduction that utilizes portions of the A-theme which is presented in full at m. 10 by the second violins. The theme is repeated at m. 18 and moves to a brief B-section at m. 26. The B-section utilizes inverted “pyramid” chords, and each voice should enter with a slight accent so that the rhythmic structure of the pyramid is audible. The A- and B-sections are both repeated with slight variation and are followed by a C-section at m. 58. This section utilizes melodic counterpoint between all voices, and care must be taken to maintain a strong individual presence from voice to voice. These voices lead to a dramatic arrival on beat 3 of m. 68. From this point, the C-section decreases in intensity, coming to restat m. 82. The introductory material returns at m. 84 with pizzicato accompaniment and leads to a final statement of both A- and B themes in a more developed and intense fashion. A delicate and restrained coda appears at m. 113 and brings the piece to a close.

How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place is one of the most beautiful choral pieces by Brahms, perhaps in the entire Romantic period.   Although Brahms wrote the original piano reduction, in this edition, it has been made more accessible for pianists with a wide range of skills. Leopold Hofmann, Kapellmeister at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna from 1772 to 1793, where W. A. Mozart was his church music assistant, also set this strongly expressive text. Hofmann's setting, in C minor, offers an austere harmony, characterized by suspensions in a homophonic, through-composed four-part vocal setting (soloists or SATB choir), reinforced only by two trombones and organ continuo. Four concise instrumental transitional passages between the individual verses relieve the pathos laden Viennese church style of this composition. With its tragic air, in some passages it closely resembles Mozart's Requiem K. 626. For this first edition, the two trombone parts are available both in the original clef and in alto clef. The figured bass has been realized so that the piece can also be performed without trombones, with only organ accompaniment. Carl Orff wrote his little world-theatre Der Mond [The Moon], based on old fables, between 1936 and 1938. The score written for actors who sing, a narrator and large orchestra, also contains parts important for wind band. Four scenes have been selected for the present arrangements which are best performed on different sets of instruments. The arranger, Hermann Regner (born 1928), worked very closely with Carl Orff for many years. This work is sure to be a success in concerts for bands at an advanced level.
