This work has survived in an autograph, unfortunately undated, preserved in the Duben Collection. The cantata is a setting of Ecclesiasticus 50, verses 24-26. This composition is one of the most richly scored vocal compositions of Buxtehude. A ritornello, which includes a fanfare of trumpets, and a longer vocal section based on Nun danket alle Gott create the work's structure. In Nun danket alle Gott Buxtehude indicated in detail, in at least one instance, the use of an a cappella entrance of the choir. If the sections without instrumental accompaniment are sung by soloists, the choir is added in the tutti passages. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3601600.

Eighteenth-century England was full of amateur musicians making music without fanfare at home. Some of them were also gifted composers, and among the best was Benjamin Skinner (1728–1757) from what was then the village of Bromley near Bow, today part of London’s East End. Skinner’s main publication was a set of six sonatas for flute, violin or solo harpsichord, which came out in 1752. These unpretentious pieces, then as now well suited to performance by amateurs or by musicians in training, are full of delights, mixing stylistic features inspired by Purcell or Handel with evocations of English popular vocal music and also the newer galant style introduced from Italy.  Perhaps these sonatas work best with flute and basso continuo, but the other two performance options are good alternatives.

Die vorliegende Einrichtung basiert auf der Nr. 6 der Sei sonatine per violino e cembalo (1718). Die Praxis, Instrumentalwerke fur ein anderes Instrument umzuschreiben, war im Barock allgemein ublich und entsprach dem praktischen Bedarf. Der fanfarenartige Anfang der Sonatine liess ein Blasinstrument geeigneter erscheinen als ein Streichinstrument. Um ein Wechselspiel zwischen Trompete und Orchester zu erreichen, wurde der Continuopart behutsam und der Zeit entsprechend erweitert.
