Elève de Louis Vierne, Alexandre Guilmant et Charles-Marie Widor, ami de Marcel Dupré, Emile Bourdon fut un musicien complet, dès son plus jeune âge. Composées entre 1926 et 1971 alors qu'il était organiste de la cathédrale de Monaco, ces Six Pièces proviennent de sources différentes et ont été réunies ici après un long travail collectif effectué par l'Association Emile Bourdon. Peu connues du public et des organistes, ces oeuvres sont pourtant remarquables par leur qualité, leur langage très personnel et leur sens aigu de la registration et de la façon de bien faire ' sonner ' l'instrument. Les Six Pièces d'Emile Bourdon sont un vrai trésor musical à redécouvrir et il ne fait aucun doute qu'elles sauront conquérir le coeur des organistes et du public. / Orgue

Alors que le oeuvre pour orgue par Widor ont obtenu une position solide dans le répertoire, ses oeuvres pour piano pas moins élaborées et artistiques sont connues pour seulement un petit cercle de pianistes, probablement parce que les oeuvres pour piano de Claude Debussy et Ravel surpassa lui dans ce domaine. ' Variations de Concert sur un thème originale ' transportées par la mélancolie profonde ont été publiées en 1867 pour la première fois et sont restés son opus non vérifiables 1 à ce jour. Ils montrent que le jeune compositeur prend le langage tonal de j. s. Bach comme point de départ, pourtant, donne son cycle de variations, qui rappelle les Variations Goldberg, sa propre expression romantique. En 1876, il a révisé les variations et eux publié sous le titre légèrement modifié de 'Variations sur un Thème original pour piano' opus 29. Notre nouvelle édition soigneusement révisée contient les deux versions (opus 1 et opus 29) où on peut dire sans exagération qu'ils devraient être en possession de chaque pianiste de concert. / Piano
