In 1925, Breitkopf & Härtel approached the young pianist Wilhelm Kempff to prepare Clara Schumann’s “Instructive Edition” of her husband’s works for the new engraving. “[…] The comparison with the autograph and the Urtext edition [First Schumann Complete Edition], the results of the Schumann research, the modern principles of notation – all of this would have to be taken into account in the new engraving and could lead to a significant improvement in the edition without compromising the spirit of editing by Clara Schumann. ” The present edition thus conveys the reading of one of the most important pianists of the twentieth century, which we make fully accessible intime for the 200th birthday of Clara Schumann. Par SCHUMANN CLARA. This book presents seven piano solos that represent the wonderful variety of compositions by Clara Schumann. The brilliant “Polonaise” was composed and performed by Clara as a child prodigy. The enchanting “Prelude, Op. 16, No. 2”, and “Romance, Op. 21. No.2” are both beautiful and suitable for many occasions. The joyful “Mazurka” makes a great recital piece as well as “Scherzo” in C minor. “Nocturne in F, Op. 6, No. 2' is one of the most beautifully written nocturnes. Chopin once told Clara that she was the only woman in Germany that could play his music. She may have been inspired to compose this piece after performing many of Chopin's works in her concerts. The final piece in this collection of Clara Schumann’s Piano Notebook is her “Theme and Variations”, which she dedicated to Robert Schumann. Robert composed and published many variations of his own on Clara's theme. Her own variations remained unknown until recently. These variations are very interesting, and the theme is easily recognizable throughout. “Theme and Variations” truly showcases Clara’s unique sense of creativity. These piano selections are presented as examples of Clara Schumann's legacy–a great composer of the 19th century. Her music is timeless and must be preserved for future generations of pianists. This collection will be valuable for recitals, programs and your own enjoyment. / Date parution : 2020-11-16/ Recueil / Piano

Par SCHUMANN CLARA. Clara Schumann (née Wieck) was undoubtedly the most important female pianist of the 19th century. As a young child she toured Europe as a prodigy: her entire career as a celebrated piano virtuoso spanned more than 60 years. Equally important, but less well known, is the composer Clara Schumann, who published her Opus 1 at the age of eleven. Despite the domestic duties expected of a woman at that time, she created numerous outstanding piano works and songs that are at least the equal of those of her male contemporaries. However, society at that time did not allow women to be regarded as fully-fledged composers or for their works to be appreciated adequately. To help give this important composer the recognition she deserves, Edition Peters, in collaboration with the Schumann-Haus Leipzig, is now, on the occasion of her 200th birthday, publishing this Anniversary Songbook. The 14 songs, representing the pinnacle of Clara's art, were composed mainly in the period after her marriage in Leipzig to Robert Schumann - who was her greatest champion. This volume includes: - new practical editions of 14 of Clara Schumann's greatest songs - introductions to each song, written by Frances Falling, Schumann-Haus Leipzig - new English translations of the song lyrics - a CD containing recordings of the piano accompaniments/ Répertoire / Voix Haute et Piano

The Romances op. 22 are today among Clara Schumann’s most popular chamber music works. For violinists and pianists, they’re also of particular importance due to the wealth of information by Schumann, Joseph Joachim, and Wilhelm Joseph von Wasielewski on fingering, bowing, and phrasing in these three pieces.
While working on the composition and publication of the Romances op. 22, Schumann was in close contact with these two great violinists of the nineteenth century. She consulted Wasielewski while completing an early version of Romance no. 1, while Joachim was involved in a later, complete version and the preparation of the first edition.
Jacqueline Ross’ scholarly-critical edition is the first to include, in addition to the first edition, the numerous manuscript sources that survive today, such as: Schumann’s draft manuscript, presentation autographs for Wasielewski and Joachim, as well as copyists’ parts once owned by the two violinists.
This edition has two separate parts for the violin, allowing its use in two ways: first, as a straightforward Urtext edition: and second, as an edition informed by historical performing practice, supported by the detailed Performing Practice Commentary on nineteenth-century violin and piano technique./ Répertoire / Violon et Piano

Robert Schumann's Kreisleriana for piano is a cycle of eight contrasting pieces ...(+)
Robert Schumann's Kreisleriana for piano is a cycle of eight contrasting pieces composed in 1838. The work belongs to one of Schumann's most creative periods. It was influenced by the writings of author E. T. A. Hoffmann and was inspired by Schumann's love for his wife, Clara. The current edition has been thoroughly researched, with comparisons made between all early sources. The 1850 second edition has been used as the primary source, which includes revisions made by Schumann and reflects his final intentions. Discrepancies with the first edition (1838), third edition (1858), and various Clara Schumann editions have been discussed in critical notes. Prefatory matter discusses the genesis of Kreisleriana, the relationship between Hoffmann's writings and Schumann's journalism and compositions, and the early champions and performers of this masterwork. Also included are discussions of the form of each piece and helpful performance suggestions. Editorial pedaling and fingering suggestions have been provided to facilitate learning and performance.Charles Timbrell is Professor of Music and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he teaches piano, piano literature, and piano pedagogy. He also maintains an active career as a performer, author, lecturer, and adjudicator. / Piano

? / Partition brochée / Date parution : 1905-06-06/ Répertoire / Quintette avec Piano

Urtext. Par SCHUMANN CLARA. Schumann's horn sonatas were composed in 1936/37. Considering the slim repertoire offered horn players from this period, it is more than surprising that these two masterpieces could have slumbered for so long. Both sonatas are similar in structure, with op. 118 being one Schumann's few three-movement sonatas.
The first movements of the pieces sparkle with melancholically lyrical melodies, whereas passages strongly marked rhythmically, variously shape the two outer movements. Virtuoso moments can be found, respectively, in the final movements, bringing the works to a brilliant close. The horn parts predominantly range within the full, sonorous middle register, where occasional 'outbursts” up to the notated a flat'' are also not lacking. The clever handling of the balance of sounds, the possibilities on the early valve horn as well as the inner interweaving of themes differentiating horn and piano make the sonatas an exceedingly vivid testimony to Schumann's mature compositional art.
Schumann's horn sonatas are a crucial enhancement to each horn player's repertoire. / Date parution : 2019-08-22/ Répertoire / Cor et Piano

Par SCHUMANN ROBERT. Robert Schumann once described his lieder as a ”mirror image of his self”. This applies particularly to his compositions from Heinrich Heine's 'Buch der Lieder”.
What began as a lyrical intermezzo, then developed into 'Dichterliebe”, a work with which Schumann identified the ardour of his love for Clara Wieck.
This work still presents an enigma to performers- how Schumann interpretes Heine's irony in his music is often discussed. But one thing is certain: with 'Dichterliebe” the composer created what is perhaps the best-loved and one of the most tightly-woven lieder cycles of the Romantic period.
This new edition presents the work based on the first edition. It takes Schumann's autograph score into consideration, an autograph score where there have recently been discussions as to whether it should be presented as an independent alternative version. The four lieder omitted by Schumann from the printed edition are included in the appendix.
- High-quality Urtext edition of this well-known song cycle
- Appendix includes four lieder by Schumann which he did not include in the original cycle
