Guitar solo - Advanced SKU: DZ.DZ-4287 Composed by Francisco Braga. Arranged by Luciano Lima. Score. Les Productions d'OZ #DZ 4287. Published by Les Productions d'OZ (DZ.DZ-4287). ISBN 9782898522048. Antônio Francisco Braga (1868-1945) belongs to the generation of Brazilian composers of the first republican period, aesthetically tied to romanticism, alongside Henrique Oswald (1852-1931), Leopoldo Miguez (1850-1902), Glauco Velásquez (1884-1914), and Barrozo Neto (1881-1941). Born in Rio de Janeiro, on April 15th, 1868, he began his musical studies at the Asilo dos Meninos Desvalidos, in 1876. In 1883, he enrolled at the Imperial Conservatório de Música where he studied harmony and counterpoint with Carlos de Mesquita – a former student of César Franck, Durand, and Massenet – and clarinet with Antônio Luís de Moura. Braga's first compositions date from this period: Sonho de Dante (1885), Dolce far niente (1886), the first Valse Romantique for piano (1886), among others. In 1887, he premiered his first symphonic work, Fantasia-Abertura. In 1890, being one of the finalists in a competition to choose the new Brazilian national anthem, Braga was awarded a scholarship to study in Europe, where he took classes with Jules Massenet at the Paris Conservatory. During this period, he wrote some of his most important symphonic works, Paysage, Cauchemar, Episódio Sinfônico, and Marabá (which was performed by Richard Strauss and the Vienna Philharmonic in 1920, in Brazil). His opera Jupyra is considered one of the greatest Brazilian compositions of that genre. Back in Brazil, he was appointed professor of counterpoint, fugue, and composition at the Instituto Nacional de Música, in 1902. There, some of the finest Brazilian composers studied with him, like Glauco Velásquez and Lorenzo Fernândez. Braga wrote operas, symphonic works, songs, sacred music, two Masses, music for piano, different chamber formations, band, and choir. He is the author of many patriotic hymns, the most popular of which is Hino à Bandeira (with lyrics by Olavo Bilac). He explored Brazilian nationalist elements in some of his works, as in Variações sobre um Tema Brasileiro and in the Trio for violin, cello and piano, whose third movement is based on a lundu (a musical genre and dance of Afro-Brazilian origin). In addition to being a composer, Braga was one of the most active conductors of his time, having been ahead of three orchestras in Rio de Janeiro: Instituto Nacional de Música, Sociedade de Concertos Sinfônicos, and Theatro Municipal. Braga conducted the Brazilian premiere of major symphonic works such as La Mer (Debussy), Pacific 231 (Honegger) besides other numerous Brazilian compositions. In 1938, he retired from Instituto Nacional de Música. He passed away on March 14th, 1945, in Rio de Janeiro. Unfortunately, Francisco Braga never wrote for the guitar. However, over a century ago his music had already been incorporated to its repertoire. According to information found in newspapers of the time, Spanish guitarist Josefina Robledo included transcriptions of pieces by Braga in her programs when she performed in Brazil: Gavota e Minuete (from the melodrama Contratador de Diamantes), in 1919, in São Paulo, and the waltz-caprice Corrupio, in 1921, in Rio de Janeiro. The piano score of Madrigal Pavane was dedicated to Alexina Leitão and published by Casa Vieira Machado, in 1901. According to the composer’s catalogue, there are two other versions of this piece: strings orchestra (1901) and quartet (which is still in manuscript). Dedicated to Braga’s childhood friend José de Souza Rocha, Timburibá (the name of a Brazilian tree) is a tango for piano from 1886, published by Narciso & Arthur Napoleão.
Piano - intermediate SKU: HL.49046242 Schott Student Edition - Level 3. Composed by Friedrich Kuhlau. Edited by Monika Twelsiek. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Piano Solo. Classical. Softcover. Op. 88/3. 20 pages. Schott Music #SE1045. Published by Schott Music (HL.49046242). ISBN 9783795716691. UPC: 888680950040. 9x12 inches. German - English - French. “These real masterpieces, even if only a few minutes long, are of tremendous melodiousness and expressiveness!”, Franz Schubert said about Friedrich Kuhlau's sonatinas.
The four Sonatinas Op. 88 were written in 1827, i.e. during Friedrich Kuhlau's middle creative period, even before the great success of the opera “Elfenhügel.” and the year of Beethoven's death. All four works contain beautiful melodic ideas, but Sonatina Op. 88 No. 3 with its minor tonality, its free treatment of form and tempo in the first movement and the lively last movement is something special. Of medium difficulty, this sonatina is great fun to play.
This edition is accompanied by a preface and “Teaching Notes” by Monika Twelsiek. It is part of the new Schott Student Edition series which offers varied literature at five different levels of difficulty, from 1 (easy) to 5 (difficult), for instrumental lessons. For further information on this series, see www.schott-student-edition.com. About Schott Student Edition The Schott Student Edition gathers instrumental works for music lessons providing a unique and varied repertoire resource including standard teaching works, lesser known pieces which are perfectly suited to lessons as well as to student concerts and competitions.

Duration 6 minutes, 26 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #SPS71. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.SPS71). ISBN 9781491143544. UPC: 680160901043. Key: G minor. Nordanvind is a tour de force symphonic rhapsody that is built on three Scandinavian folk songs. Composer Carl Strommen has composed these Viking-influenced melodies into a concert setting that brings out all of the history of the Scandinavian people. The piece is at times bold and aggressive, at other times beautiful. Carl employs all of the instrumental colors of the concert band to create a new work for more advanced ensembles. Modern Scandinavians are descendants of the Vikings, an adventuresome people who were known for their love of the sea, their naval prowess, and as fierce fighters . The Scandinavian Vikings were warriors from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden who traded, raided and settled in various parts of Europe, Russia, the North Atlantic islands, and the northeastern coast of North America .Starting around 1850, over one million Swedes left their homeland for the United States in search of religious freedom and open farm land . Augustana College was founded in 1860 by graduates of Swedish universities and is located on the Mississippi River in Rock Island, Illinois . Home of the “Vikings,†Augustana College is the oldest Swedish- American institution of higher learning in the United States . This powerful and lively piece takes inspiration from Swedish history and from Swedish folk songs and hymns .Havsdrake (Dragon of the Sea)The Nordanvind or “North Wind†blows a cold wind during a journey of a group of courageous Viking rowers . The “Dragon-ship†or long ships designed for raiding and war was a sophisticated, fast ship able to navigate in very shallow water . To musically portray these magnificent seafaring vessels, the director is encouraged to use an Ocean Drum (or a rain stick) during the introduction . Wind players may consider blowing air through their instruments to suggest the North wind . Adding men’s voices to accompany the haunting low brass and percussive “rower†sounds can be helpful in creating the dark and ominous portrayal of Viking adventurers .Slangpolska efter Byss - KalleIn Sweden, a “polska†is a partner dance where the dancers spin each other (släng in Swedish “to sling or tossâ€) . Slangpolska efter Byss - Kalle is attributed to Byss-Kalle, who was a notable Swedish folk musician, specifically a nyckelharpa player . Slangpolska efter Byss - Kalle is a traditional “polska†dance song most often played on the Nyckelharpa or keyed fiddle and is commonly heard in pubs and at festive events throughout Sweden . Approximately 10,000 nyckelharpa players live in Sweden today, and the Swedish and the American Nyckelharpa Associations are dedicated to this Swedish National instrument . The director is encouraged to share video and audio examples of the nyckelharpa playing the original Slangpolska efter Byss - Kalle .Tryggare Kan Ingen Vara (Children of the Heavenly Father)Tryggare Kan Ingen Vara Is a traditional Swedish melody, possibly of German roots, and was believed to be arranged as a hymn by the Swedish hymn writer, Karolina Wilhelmina Sandell-Berg (1832–1903) . As a daughter of a Swedish Lutheran minister, she began writing poems as a teenager and is said to have written over 1,700 different texts . There are two different accounts as to the inspiration for this hymn . The first story is that Lina (as she was called) wrote the hymn to honor her father and to say thank you to him for raising her and protecting her . A second belief is of her witnessing the tragic death of her father . She and her father were on a boat, when a wave threw her father overboard . It was said that the profound effect of watching her father drown is what caused Lina to write the text to this hymn . Although this is a treasured song to people of Swedish descent everywhere, it speaks to all people about a father tending and nourishing his children, and protecting them from evil .SPS71FThe Augustana College Concert BandFounded in 1874, the Augustana Band program is one of the oldest continuously active collegiate band programs in the country . The Concert Band is one of two bands on campus and was formed more than thirty years ago . The Concert Band attracts students of every skill level and from a wide variety of majors . Students in the ensemble play a large part in choosing their music for performance, which include works from the standard repertoire, orchestral transcriptions, and the latest compositions from leading composers .Rick Jaeschke began his musical career as a clarinet player in the 1st US Army Band . He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Susquehanna University, a Masters of Music from James Madison University, and a doctorate from Columbia University in New York . He was also fortunate to study conducting with Donald Hunsburger and with Frederick Fennell .Dr . Jaeschke taught band and choir at Great Mills High School in Southern Maryland, and for fifteen years, he was the district Music Supervisor in Armonk, New York, where he taught high school concert and jazz bands, beginning band, and music technology . During that time, the music program flourished, and the high school band consistently received Gold Medals in the New York State Festivals, as well as in national, and international festivals . As a clarinet and saxophone player, Dr . Jaeschke performed in the New York metropolitan area with the Rockland Symphony Orchestra, the Putnam Symphony Orchestra, Fine Arts Symphony Orchestra, and served as the concert master for the Hudson Valley Wind Symphony .For several years, Dr . Jaeschke served as the Fine Arts Coordinator for the District 204 schools in Naperville, IL, a district selected as One of the Best 100 Schools in America for Music . Currently, Dr . Jaeschke is an Associate Professor at Augustana College where he teaches music and music education courses, and directs the Concert Band . He has served on various educational boards, is a National edTPA scorer, and has presented at state, national and international music conferences . He lives with his family in Bettendorf Iowa, and enjoys any opportunity to explore the open water in his sea kayak . $125.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks | | |

Edmund Waechter & Elisabeth Weinzierl) Schott Student Edition Repertoire. This edition contains three beautiful and rather easy performance pieces which have been selected from the large number of pieces by Wilhelm Popp in a Romantic concert style. Cantabile and virtuoso passages were always arranged specifically for the instrument by the court flutist (and pianist) of the court theatre of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. This edition is part of the new Schott Student Edition series which offers varied literature at five different levels of difficulty. About Schott Student Edition The Schott Student Edition gathers instrumental works for music lessons providing a unique and varied repertoire resource including standard teaching works, lesser known pieces which are perfectly suited to lessons as well as to student concerts and competitions.
The repertoire is divided into levels 1-5, from very easy to difficult, and includes works from the Renaissance up to modern performance pieces. Each title is graded, from very easy works for beginners up to demanding pieces for more advanced students who are preparing for further study or examinations.
Every work in the series has been carefully selected and edited by experienced music teachers. The editions also contain a wealth of information on the pieces as well as useful advice on studying, rehearsing and interpreting the works. The first titles to be published in the Schott Student Edition series contain works for violin, violoncello, flute, clarinet and recorder. The viol player Diego Ortiz, who was musical director at the court of the Spanish viceroy in Naples in the mid-16th century, wrote a textbook which became authoritative for the art of improvisation during the Renaissance. This textbook contains pieces with written improvisations in the tradition of the Renaissance period. Although the writing of improvisations was a contradiction in terms even then, Ortiz' pieces are excellent textbooks for the study of the structures and rules of this art. About Schott Student Edition The Schott Student Edition gathers instrumental works for music lessons providing a unique and varied repertoire resource including standard teaching works, lesser known pieces which are perfectly suited to lessons as well as to student concerts and competitions.
