Pearson Street Jazz Phrasing for Trombone features ten melodic pieces which are easy to play, yet convey the essence of mainstream (Swing/Bebop/Bossa) jazz vocabulary. The pieces are catchy and melodic, demonstrating the use of sequence and voice-leading to make a musical statement. This book includes a play-along CD featuring trombonist Russ Phillips playing each song with a world-class rhythm section. The CD also includes tracks featuring Greg Fishman demonstrating each song on alto saxophone, giving trombone players the option of playing along with Russ Phillips on trombone or with Greg Fishman on alto saxophone. In addition, there are play-along tracks featuring just the rhythm section. These tracks are great for practicing the songs, chords, scales, voice-leading lines and soloing over the chords progressions. Jazz Phrasing for Trombone will provide valuable insights into a melodic approach to jazz improvisation. This book is recommended for trombone players of all levels who wish to improve their tone, articulation, phrasing, and understanding of thematic development. Special Features of Jazz Phrasing for Trombone: o Suggested Use Section - Provides detailed instructions on a variety of ways to work with the book. Style & Analysis Section - Provides clear, concise explanations of sequence, variation and voice-leading Thematic Index - Lets you compare the opening themes of all ten songs in convenient two page at-a-glance format. Also includes detailed information on the opening interval of each song, as well as harmonic context of the opening interval. Endorsements for Jazz Phrasing for Trombone: Greg has done it again. Great melodies, interesting rhythms and beautiful chord progressions. This is the perfect foundation for learning jazz. - Jamey Aebersold This book is a monument to Greg Fishman's superb teaching skills, as well as his clear understanding of the jazz student's early needs. He has purposefully selected accessible tempos, significant melodic rhythms (with their appropriate phrasing) and sensitive note choices, utilizing commonplace chord progressions within the jazz repertory, all impeccably demonstrated on the accompanying compact disc. This book is a must for the early conditioning of jazz students! - Jerry Coker Greg Fishman has created a book of fun, well-written, catchy tunes in a variety of styles for developing jazz players---highly recommended. - Dr. Gregory W. Yasinitsky, Regents Professor of Music & Coordinator of Jazz Studies, Washington State University Songs included in Jazz Phrasing for Trombone - Volume 1: o Milwaukee Avenue Ogden Avenue Narragansett Avenue Belden Avenue Chicago Avenue Quincy Street Rockwell Street Dearborn Street Franklin Street Pearson Street A few words from the preface of the book: Applying good phrasing to music is like using good punctuation in written or spoken language. It involves the grouping of ideas to make the meaning of the words clear to the listener. The words are grouped into sentences, and the sentences are then grouped into paragraphs. The same is true when interpreting a piece of music. Good phrasing requires a musician to interpret the notes he plays, and determine which notes need to be grouped together to form a complete musical idea. Each song in Jazz Phrasing for Trombone is designed to train your ear to hear the logical grouping of phrases through the use of sequence and thematic development. While the art of good phrasing involves the interpretation of note groupings and their relationships, it also involves deciding where you're going to take a breath. Read the following sentences aloud to compare examples of good and bad phrasing. Good phrasing, spoken in one continuous breath: Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the senior class president. Bad phrasing, spoken with extra breaths, disrupting the flow and grouping of the words: Ladies and gentlemen, it gives (breath) me great pleasure to introduce the senior class (breath) president. The difference between these two sentences is very similar to the difference between a professional musician's phrasing and a student's phrasing. Both may be playing the correct notes with the correct rhythm, but the professional musician knows how to group the notes in a smooth, flowing fashion, while the student takes breaths at random, not even aware that he's disrupting the phrasing. Jazz Phrasing for Trombone has been carefully designed to help you learn to phrase like a professional player. These are pieces that will be fun for all musicians who love melodic writing with good thematic development.. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Lira Orfeo Vol. 15 - Intermediate Music Distribution Services
Orchester of plucked instruments - intermediate to advanced SKU: M7.GHE-915(+)
Orchester of plucked instruments - intermediate to advanced SKU: M7.GHE-915 The Complete Repertoire composed and arranged for Lira Orfeo. Edited by Stefano Grondona. Arranged by Miguel Llobet. This edition: Saddle-wire stitching. Sheet music. 112 pages. MDS (Music Distribution Services) #GHE 915. Published by MDS (Music Distribution Services) (M7.GHE-915). ISBN 9783890449159. English. Miguel Llobet's famous Catalan plucked string orchestra called the 'Lira Orfeo' was active in Barcelona from 1899-1906. Here we present a new engraving of all the surviving original scores, set in the same performing score format in which they were originally used 120 years ago. The Lira Orfeo quickly became an important part of Barcelona's cultural scene; with Tárrega as its honorary president the Lira Orfeo society was founded in 1898 and an official inaugural concert, shared between Manuel Burgés (pno) and Miguel Llobet (gtr) took place in Barcelona in 1898. The aim of the society was to offer a full musical education, both theoretical and instrumental, for guitarists and players of other plucked instrument family, with eventually with a place in its Catalan plucked instrument orchestra of the same name. The teachers for guitar were Miguel Llobet, Pedro Lloret and Domingo Prat. Prominent musicians such as Manuel Burgés and Baldomera Cateura were also on the teaching staff. Classes were given three times a week, and as the players were mainly amateurs with day jobs, these took place in the evening and often went on until 2 o'clock in the morning. The debut of the orchestra took place in 1903 and it gave regular concerts at top venues right up to the society's dissolution in 1907, mainly due to lack of funding. For the instruments used see the list of works below. The repertoire is varied, selected, arranged by Miguel Llobet it was mainly drawn from traditional and impressionist Iberian music, as well as the German classics, it includes a specially commissioned work Triomphe d'Orphée' by the famous Catalán pianist Manuel Burgés. We at Guitar Heritage are proud to present the first publication of this huge cultural contribution to music in its original form and prepared from the source manuscripts which were the work of Miguel Llobet. The edition has many illustrations, rare documents and photographs as well as a comprehensive critical commentary by Stefano Grondona - whose knowledge of Miguel Llobet, as well as of Catalonian culture, has made an edition of this scope possible. These arrangements are superb and presented as they originally were in the same score form. The now relatively rare instruments called for can be replaced by suitable alternatives - this is ideal and interesting material for adapting to guitar orchestra/ensemble or mandolin orchestra, or similar. $53.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Piano Reduction SKU: HL.1128588 For SATB Chorus, String Orchestra (or ...(+)
Piano Reduction SKU: HL.1128588 For SATB Chorus, String Orchestra (or Organ) & Finger Cymbals Piano Reduction. Composed by Morten Lauridsen. Peermusic Classical. Chant. Octavo. 20 pages. Duration 630 seconds. Peermusic Classical #70357-121. Published by Peermusic Classical (HL.1128588). ISBN 9781705182772. UPC: 196288111733. 6.75x10.5x0.045 inches. The newly released Ave Verum Corpus for choir, string orchestra or organ, with finger cymbals joins a catalog of works that are performed throughout the world, with several recordings that received Grammy nominations. Ave Verum Corpus for choir and string orchestra or organ was commissioned by Wheaton College to inaugurate its new Armerding Center for Music and the Arts, named for Hudson Armerding who served as the fifth president of Wheaton College from 1965 to 1982 and his wife, Miriam, who received a music degree from Wheaton. Notes from the Composer: The newly composed antiphon should be performed as one would a traditional Gregorian chant. The set of finger cymbals should be played by a member of the bass section who will hold one in each hand and strike the two together on the edge. Use only high-quality cymbals, not the tinny, cheap ones found on the internet used mainly by belly dancers. I recommend those manufactured by Toca or Zildjian. I prefer this work to be accompanied by a full string orchestra, as recorded by the Wheaton College choir and orchestra conducted by John Trotter. If a string orchestra is not possible, it may be performed with organ, registration ad libitum (or, finally, with piano if an organ is not available). The duration of the piece is 10:30. Organists will use the piano accompaniment as a template and are free to use their own registrations throughout (a more subdued, intimate registration should be employed at rehearsal D and full organ at rehearsal F plus the ending). $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Baritone Voice and Piano SKU: BT.PMC3865 Baritone and piano. Composed by Morten Lauridsen. Score Only. Composed 2011. 12 pages. Peermusic Classical #PMC3865. Published by Peermusic Classical (BT.PMC3865). The Two Songs on American Poems were composed in late May and early June of 2011 by candlelight at my rustic waterfront cabin on a remote island off the northwest coast of Washington State. It was in this locale that I havecompleted a number of works over the years, including the Lux Aeterna, O Magnum Mysterium, Nocturnes, Canticle/O Vos Omnes and others. Prayer was written in memory of Michael Jasper Gioia, Dana and Mary Gioia's infant son, whosebrief life was tragically ended by SIDS.Mr. Gioia served as Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts from 2003-2010 and has authored several books of poems, numerous anthologies, articles, essays and two opera libretti. Amonghis many awards are the American Book Award and Presidential Citizens Medal. He currently holds the Judge Widney Chair of Poetry and Public Policy at the University of Southern California. Sure on this Shining Night was originallycomposed as a choral piece, the third movement of my Nocturnes on poems by Rilke, Neruda and Agee. Rod Gilfry, an international star of opera, recital and musical theater, premiered the mixed duet version with his daughter, Carin,in 2009. He is Professor of Vocal Studies at the USC Thornton School of Music. Both he and Mr. Gioia are national treasures. The Two Songs are designed as a pair but may be sung independently - when paired, Sure On This ShiningNight should begin immediatelyfollowing the final, sustained chord of Prayer with no break in between the songs. Both of these songs, premiered by Mr. Gilfry accompanied by the composer at a USC Visions & Voices tribute to DanaGioia on September 27, 2011, have their roots in the American musical theater and should be sung as such. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
| Andante Cantabile for Solo Trombone & Trombone Ensemble [Score and Parts] - Advanced Cherry Classics
Solo Trombone & Trombone Ensemble - advanced SKU: CY.CC2688 Composed by P...(+)
Solo Trombone & Trombone Ensemble - advanced SKU: CY.CC2688 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by J. Mark Thompson. Romantic Russian. Score and parts. Published by Cherry Classics (CY.CC2688). Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) composed his String Quartet No. 1 in D, Op. 11, in 1871. Countless arrangements of its second movement, Andante cantabile, have been made, but it was not discovered until after his death that he, too, had arranged this movement in 1888, his version being for solo cello and strings. In this version, Tchaikovsky transposed the movement, originally in the key of B-flat Major, up to B Major.
The singing melody is based on a popular Russian folk song, and it lends itself quite well for performance on trombones.
This arrangement premiered February 14, 1997, at the Texas Music Educators' Association Convention in San Antonio, TX.
Soloist: Ron Barron, Principal Trombone, Boston Symphony Orchestra
Ensemble: Texas University Teachers' Trombone Ensemble (TUTTE), J. Mark Thompson, conducting. Andrew Russell, program organizer and presider.
It was subsequently featured on July 7, 2012, at the International Trombone Festival at the Paris Conservatory in Paris, France.
Soloist: Ron Barron, Principal Trombone, Boston Symphony Orchestra (retired)
Ensemble: William F. Cramer Memorial Trombone Choir, Irvin Wagner, conducting. $32.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

This book gives individual conductor’s freedom to explore choices and alternatives to fix tricky passages in the provided musical examples. I love the book and will be using it in my studio. —Julius P. Williams   Artistic director and conductor, Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra   President of the International Conductors Guild How refreshing to review a conducting book that deals with specificity of gesture as it relates to the music rather than mere concepts. Bravo to Maestro David Itkin for holding the aspiring conductor to task on issues of score study, execution, and style! —Mark Gibson   Director of Orchestral Studies, College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati   Author of The Beat Stops Here. $100.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
