Ce dernier introduit une mélodie entraînante qui subit plusieurs transformations à travers le développement de l'œuvre tout en étant soutenue par un rythme funk. Last Call est le bis idéal.

Impressions of a Village-Bliss : Impressions of a Village est une pièce spectaculaire écrite par l?un des compositeurs pour orchestre les plus réputés en Hollande Jacob de Haan. Il contient trois impressions d?un beau village dans la province de Brabant aux Pays-Bas. Le premier mouvement est dans un style très classique ce qui réussit à capter l?histoire du village d?une façon pertinente. L?orchestre au complet joue tandis que la rivière approche le vieux château. Le troisième mouvement contient beaucoup de rythmes intéressants qui représentent l?agitation de la vie quotidienne dans le village.

The word ‘tsunami’ is of Japanese origin. When you look it up in a dictionary you will find that it means ‘a great sea wave produced by submarine earth movement or volcanic eruption’. A megatsunami is the superlative of this awesome expressionof power that nature can create and has catastrophic consequences. When Carl Wittrock completed this composition not many such big earth movements had occurred but since then we have become all too familiar with the disastrousconsequences which a tsunami may have. On the 26th of December 2004 a heavy seaquake took place near the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Tidal waves 10 meters in height ravaged the coastal regions of many countries for miles around. The tsunamitook the lives of thousands of people and destroyed many villages and towns. There are more areas which run the risk of being struck by a tsunami such as the island of La Palma one of the Canary Islands. This island is based on oceaniccrust at a fracture zone and as such is one of nature’s time bombs. The consequences of a natural calamity like a megatsunami are immense. In the case of La Palma the tidal wave will move in the direction of South America where it may reach 50km inland destroying everything on its way. In his composition Wittrock describes an ordinary day which will have an unexpected ending. Right from the beginning there seems to be something in the air the music creating an oppressiveatmosphere of impending disaster. Themes are interrupted broken off suddenly followed by silence suggesting the calm before the storm. Suddenly a short climax (glissandi in the trombone part) indicates the seaquake and the megatsunami isa fact. Hereafter follows a turbulent passage symbolising the huge rolling waves. After nature’s force has spent itself resignation sets in and the composition ends with a majestic ode to nature.

Tuba Concerto est une œuvre de commande pour le facteur allemand Miraphone spécialisé dans les cuivres. Philip Sparke a composé et dédié cette pièce à Markus Theinert un ami de longue date qui en a assuré la création le 30 avril 2006 à Sigmaringen en Allemagne accompagné par le Brass Band Oberschwaben-Allgäu.L?idée d?un concerto pour tuba a été longuement discutée entre le soliste et le compositeur dont le souci était de créer un véritable concerto développant un matériau parfaitement adapté au rôle solistique de l?instrument sans tomber dans la caricature. Ainsi la partie soliste couvre trois octaves et demie et exploite pleinement les qualitéstechniques et expressives de l?instrument.Tuba Concerto est une composition en deux mouvements joints qui peuvent également être joués séparément. Le premier mouvement débute lentement puis s?accélère progressivement. La cadence annonce la réexposition du matériel thématique initial. Le second mouvement écrit en forme de scherzo semble plus résolu mais chemine vers plus de légèreté. La reprise du matériel thématique initial offre une conclusion efficace et puissante.Ce concerto est également disponible dans une version pour Tuba solo et Orchestre d'harmonie (AMP 173-010) et Tuba solo et Piano (AMP 187-401).

In this composition Jacob de Haan sees the 'Ross Roy' as a metaphor for the years spent at school (a monument in time) where one's personality is formed. So the opening theme the artist calls the Ross Roy theme initially has monumental characteristics.The rhythmic motion which strides along in the lower register and percussion at the beginning of the next section is typical of 'Tempo di Marcia'. This movement accompanied by repetitions of sound is a metaphor for the structure and discipline in school. This is the introduction to a march theme symbolic of 'passing through' the classes up to the final examinations.Then the Ross Roy theme is dealt with again now in aplayful humorous variation. As if the composer is saying there should also be time for a smile in school. The same theme can be heard in major key and a slower tempo in the following section expressing pride and self-confidence. This is also the introduction to the expressive middle section that represents love friendship and understanding.We then return to the march theme in a slightly altered construction. The oriental sounds constituting the modulation to the final theme are symbols of the diversity of cultures in the school. The characteristic final theme first sounds solemn but turns into a festive apotheosis. It is no coincidence that the final cadence is reminiscent of the close to a traditional overture for the school years can be considered the 'overture' to the rest of one's life.

for Trombone and Brass Band-Capriccio for Trombone was commissioned by Brett Baker trombone soloist and member of the famous Black Dyke Band. It is a tribute to the late Mike Moor close friend and colleague of both Brett and the composer. The piece aims to capture Mike’s good humour his love for brass band music and the irrepressible enthusiastic energy he involved in all things he did in his life.
