Par REID ELLEN. This piece for wordless voice and small ensemble was composed as part of Ellen Reid’s Soundwalk, a site-specific work created for urban parks around the world. The title comes from Christian Cooper, a black birdwatcher whose confrontation with a white dogwalker in Central Park, New York, in 2020 made headlines around the world and on social media. Par REID ELLEN. Tiresias, the Blind Prophet of Thebes, is on a walk, and along comes Orlando, the title character from Virginia Woolf's novel. Orlando, who is of noble birth, has only recently been changed - inexplicably - during seven mysterious days of unbroken sleep - from a man to a woman, and is crossing this plane heading from Constantinople back to England, his homeland.
