Nr. 7 Aus Jazz-Like. Partita Für Klavier. Par SCHULHOFF ERWIN. Der österreichisch-ungarische Komponist Erwin Schulhoff (1894?1942) war musikalisch frühreif: Auf Empfehlung AntonÃn Dvoráks erhielt er Klavierunterricht mit sieben Jahren, wurde mit zehn Jahren Schüler im Prager Konservatorium. Weitere Klavierstudien in Wien, Köln und Leipzig sowie Kompositionsunterricht bei Max Reger ergänzten seine Ausbildung. Seine jüdische Herkunft, durch die seine Musik als ?entartet? diffamiert wurde, und seine Sympathie für den Kommunismus kosteten ihm allerdings das Leben: In Prag und schließlich im bayerischen Wülzburg bei Weißenburg interniert, starb er an Tuberkulose.
Schulhoffs musikalische Bedeutung liegt in der Integration des Jazz in die Kunstmusik, etwa in seinem Oratorium H.M.S. Royal Oak oder in seiner Hot Sonate für Alt-Saxophon und Klavier. Er selbst verdiente sich lange Zeit seinen Lebensunterhalt als Jazzpianist. Im August 1922 entstanden vier kurze Klavierstücke, seine Rag Music, denen er im November noch vier weitere Sätze hinzufügte: veröffentlicht als Partita, die auch als Jazz-like-Partita bekannt wurde ? mit den damaligen Modetänzen Ragtime, Foxtrott, Shimmy, Boston und ? als Nr. 7 ? ein Tango. Vom Klavier- in einen Streichquartett-Satz gewandelt, präsentiert sich das Arrangement als ein delikates und pfiffiges, spieltechnisch nicht allzu schwieriges Bonbon, geeignet als Abwechslung oder Zugabe in einem Quartett-Programm. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes

The principal source for Sonata No. 3 was the composer?s autograph fair copy.Erwin Schulhoff was a German-speaking composer who was born in Prague in 1894 but returned to his native Prague in the 1920s to teach at the local conservatory. Erwin Schulhoff (1894 1942) was one of the most original personalities on the music scene of the early 20th century. His persecution and ostracism by the National Socialists led to his being forgotten for a time though in recentdecades the extraordinary quality of his music has been rediscovered. It was inspired by jazz Dada atonal music and socialist realism. Schulhoff’s Hot-Sonata of 1930 displays the influence of jazz not least through the use ofthe saxophone as solo instrument but also in its pithy rhythms its glitzy harmonies and its use of playing techniques such as glissandi. The Hot-Sonata is published here for the first-ever time in an Urtext edition. Iteliminates numerous mistakes found in the first edition that had been reprinted up to the present day. All the relevant sources were consulted for this edition: the autograph an engraver’s copy Schulhoff’s own copy of thepublished work and further personal documents such as letters and contracts. The saxophonist Frank Lunte from Berlin was engaged to edit this volume. He is an acknowledged expert in this repertoire and in the history of thesaxophone especially its history in 1930s Berlin.

Voici un morceau de musique qui est amusant à jouer, un premiers travaux d'un compositeur de la fin de la période Dada et ' jazz classique '. Erwin Schulhoff fait son nom dans les années 1920 avec la musique de piano inspirée par le jazz et les compositions de Dadaistic. Cette suite de cinq-mouvement pour violon et piano tombe dans la première phase de maturité en développement musical du Schulhoff. En 1911 le jeune compositeur donna fièrement ce travail le titre Opus 1, donc délibérément mettre au-dessus de toute une série de compositions antérieures. La Suite, ce qui est publiée ici pour la première fois, allie plaisir bruyants avec une foule d'idées d'esprit. Dans le manuscrit autographe les mots ' érotisme 'et' danse des devils peu 'ont été écrits ci-dessus les mouvements des premières et la dernières de la partie de violon.
