This treasury of part songs and sacred music for one to six voices will delight all lovers of medieval and Renaissance music. Containing a wealth of both religious and secular music from the 12th to the 17th centuries the collection covers a broad range of moods. Approximately half the songs are secular some from the popular tradition and others from the courtly poets and musicians surrounding such musically inclined monarchs. Romberg's adaptation of melodies by Franz Schubert for Lilac Time (1921) and started him on the path to greatness. He subsequently wrote his best-known operettas, The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926) and The New Moon (1928), which were in a style similar to the Viennese operettas of Franz Lehar. He also wrote Rosalie (1928) together with George Gershwin. His later works, such as Up in Central Park (1945), are closer to the American musical in style, but they were less successful. Un seul nom suffit pour évoquer la magie des plus célèbres comédies musicales : Broadway. Le long de cette avenue new-yorkaise regroupés autour de Times Square 38 théâtres produisent depuis près de 80 ans des spectacles au succès planétaire signés par des noms légendaires : Berlin Porter Gershwin Bernstein Sondheim Hammerstein Loewe Cohan Lloyd-Webber Plamandon Schönberg? Dans cette œuvre en hommage à Broadway Elliot del Borgo a rassemblé trois des plus célèbres mélodies du compositeur américain George Michael Cohan qui a marqué Broadway dans les années 20.
