Uses: Lent, General, Healing Scripture: Isaiah 64:8; Jeremiah 18:1-6; Luke 4:18; Job 42:10 This dramatic vocal tableau is a heart-centric tone poem that reaches deep to convey a message of hope and grace. The text uses the imagery of a stained glass window shattered by life's journey, made beautiful again by the Master Artist's touch. The music is fragile and vulnerable, and acts as a soundtrack to this message of restoration. The beautiful colors of the optional orchestration tug at the spirit with tender lines of deep expression and decorate the flowing piano writing with sensitivity. Score and Parts (hn, perc 1-2, vc, synth) available as a digital download.

Worn by the waves and recycled by the ocean, “sea glass†is a product of both nature and man. Bottles and jars carelessly discarded are tumbled by sea and sand, magically creating colorful and smoothly polished gems. This lovely descriptive work uses shimmering effects in piano and percussion combined with beautiful melodies and lush harmonies. With effective emotional peaks and a nice variety in textures, this is a rewarding work for band.Dur: 3:45.

Glass Dances, as a project, initially attempted to combine certain elements of Philip Glass's music with the driving force of dance music. However, what the final product ended up being was 90% dance and 10% Glass. Both melodically and rhythmically driven, Glass Dances features multiple themes and sections that reoccur in a quasi-rondo format; however, no forward motion is lost at these transitions. If you have two players looking for a fun challenge, Glass Dances is a catchy audience-thriller with the occasional minimalistic and ethnic undertones.

Vernon Park, Stockport’s oldest park, was created on land donated by Lord Vernon (George John Warren). It was built by poor mill workers who called it pinch-belly park and opened on 20th September 1858. Comprising twenty-one acres, it houses a museum, a bandstand, ornamental fountains, a fernery, rockery, borders and sunken rose garden as well terraced walkways that overlook the river and weir. The piece depicts a solitary walker engrossed in his own thoughts on a winter’s day, the landscape, and the park’s Victorian past.At the very end of the piece a reminder of the park’s Victorian origins can be detected in a quote from Elgar’s Salut d’amour of 1899, which may well have been played by a band in the bandstand. Stockport market celebrated its 750th anniversary in 2010. It dated back to September 1260 when a Royal Charter allowed Robert de Stokeport, the Mayor, to hold a weekly market within the defensive walls of the Norman Castle on the present site of Castle Yard. The Glass Umbrella was a popular name given to the 1861 covered market built of timber, glass and iron - nine bays with open sides and a glass canopy. In 1912, one bay was removed to enable electric trams and trolley buses to turn a sharp corner. The piece depicts a lively market day, the multiculturalism of the present day and the old cries of pick and pay without delay. The bells of St Mary’s Church are depicted by a cascading peel tuned to the ten bells of the church tower, and a fleeting reference to John Wainwright’s famous Christmas hymn Christians Awake, and the Westminster chimes striking the hour from St Mary’s, bring to piece to a conclusion. Separate parts are provided for recorder and oboe.

Tirol: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Philip Glass was premiered at the Klanspuren Festival in Tirol, Austria and written with the support of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Tirol Tourish Board. Glass studied sound documents and sheet music of Tyrolese folk-music, using this source material directly as the basis for the concerto.

Through Green Glass is made up of four contrasting movements osasta (Allegro intenso-Pesante-Sostenuto-Energico), which are played attacca. The sharp cuts at the movement divider transfer the listener suddenly to a new atmosphere and sound texture. Only the final movement, Energico, grows organically into its own being, directly from the tranquil Sostenuto movement. Reoccuring rhythm ostinato 13/8 (8/8 + 5/8) is embedded in the genes of all movements. After the climax of the finale, a kind of synthesis is apparent: the heavy chords of Pesante movement make a reappearance; the final bars of the work are indeed a citation from the beginning of the work. Though the guitar is not Mikko Heinio's own instrument, this work was born with a guitar on the composer's lap. This lends to the texture being idiomatic, very natural to the guitar, not letting the performer get off easy, though. The fast changes in texture, multiple playing techniques and snappy rhythmic drive with fast arpeggios call for iron-handed guitarist. The title of the work was given after the work was finished. In retrospect the composer says of the title: [the mental image is] green like the nature, fragile and clear as glass, as light filtered by certain frequences of chromium oxide.

This beautiful and exciting arrangement features two traditional Irish tunes. It opens with Parting Glass, a lovely air which is traditionally sung as a farewell to good friends at the end of an evening together or before a long journey. This setting offers melodic material to all voices and uses the richest ranges of each instrument to maximize the expressive possibilities. Next comes Collin's Reel, a fiddle dance that's great fun to play and features a gradual accelerando that makes for a very fast and furious ending. Duration 4:40.
