Speaker, Solo Voices, Chorus, Flute (or piccolo or recorder), Tubular Bells, Handbells, Pedal Organ and Piano - Intermediate SKU: FP.FSD03 Composed by Douglas Steele. Edited by John Turner. Sheet Music and Books. Song cycle by Douglas Steele for speaker, solo voices, chorus, flute or piccolo or recorder, tubular bells, handbells, organ pedal and piano. Classical. Choral score. Forsyths Publications #FSD03. Published by Forsyths Publications (FP.FSD03). ISBN 9790570503827. Steele's superb song-cycle Autumn Sequence was written for the pupils of Stockport Grammar School, and is scored for speaker, solo voices, chorus, flute or piccolo or recorder, tubular bells, handbells, organ pedal and piano, being the rather idiosyncratic resources then available at the school. It was first performed on October 3rd 1969 in the schools Hallam Hall, where the composer had been responsible for the specification of the recently installed organ. Douglas Steele himself played the piano part in his own inimitable style extending and improvising the cadenzas between the movements. A recording is available on Campion Cameo 2040/1 featuring Richard Baker narrating and choirs from Carlisle Cathedral, with John Turner on recorder.
Autumn Sequence can be heard on the album Autumn Sequence: The Music of Douglas Steele and his circle. $18.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

| Concerto In C For Piano And Symphonic Wind Orch. Concert band [Score] Beriato Music
Concert Band/Harmonie and Piano SKU: BT.BMP8095417 Composed by Leroy Ande...(+)
Concert Band/Harmonie and Piano SKU: BT.BMP8095417 Composed by Leroy Anderson. Arranged by Jörg Murschinski. Score Only. Composed 2008. Beriato Music #BMP8095417. Published by Beriato Music (BT.BMP8095417). A lot is known about the American composer Leroy Anderson. This son of Swedish immigrants played the piano, organ, accordion, trombone, tuba and double bass. He spoke several languages fluently and graduated from Harvard with first-class honours. While on military service, the army also commissioned him to write a manual on Icelandic grammar. He already started writing musical arrangements as a student, and from his 30th year arranged and composed for the Boston Pops Orchestra. Such melodiesas Serenata, The Typewriter, Sleigh Ride and Buglers Holiday made him world famous. His best-known work, Blue Tango, reached number one in the US charts in 1952, and it sold more than a million copies. In 1975, a year after hisdeath, he was given a star at the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Most of his works last no longer than three minutes, about the maximum length of a single at that time. One work that lasts longer is his 1953 Piano Concerto in C for piano and orchestra. The first performance was in Chicago, conducted by the composer and with Eugene List at the piano. However, after three performances he was no longer happy with the work and withdrew it. He always intended to revise it, but never got round to it. Itwas only in 1989 that the Anderson family decided to republish the work. This three-part composition is on the one hand characterised by a careless elegance, but on the other one can hear the influence of Rachmaninoff, Copland, Gershwin, and evenBeethoven and Mozart, as well as the Viennese classics.Anderson used the sonata form for the first movement. It ends with a cadenza that carries us on into the second part (in e minor). The third part is a typically cheerful American folk dance in2/4 time, a so-called Hoe Down, with a lilting, lyrical passage as its middle section. At the end comes a solo passage followed by a rapid close. In this piano concerto, Anderson combines a rigidly classical form of composition with simple andappealing themes and elements from light music. So this work is a perfect synthesis of light music and what is called serious music, in the same way as Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue. A work that can be played equally well in a concerthall, at an open-air concert or even a pop concert.

Choir Secular Countertenor Solo - Children's Chorus - SATB choir- 2 piano - percussion SKU: PE.EP72698A Cantata for Solo Countertenor, Children's Chorus, Adult Mixed Chorus, Two Pianos and Percussion. Composed by Jonathan Dove. Choral Works (inc. Oratorios). Edition Peters. Book. 92 pages. Duration 00:25:00. Edition Peters #98-EP72698A. Published by Edition Peters (PE.EP72698A). ISBN 9790577010519. 210 x 297mm inches. English. Commissioned by Making Music with funds from the Nicholas Berwin Charitable Foundation First performance: 12th March 2016, Waltham Singers, conducted by Andrew Fardell, King Edward's Grammar School, Chelmsford. Music runs through the story of Arion, which begins with a singing competition in Sicily. Arion wins the prize, and this puts his life in danger: his newfound wealth excites the Greed of the sailors who are supposed to be bringing him back to Corinth, and they threaten to kill him. They allow Arion to sing one last song, and the power of his singing attracts dolphins to the ship. At The End of his song, he jumps overboard, and one of the dolphins carries him to safety. So Arion’s musical gift gets him into trouble, but it is also his salvation. The idea of being rescued by a music-loving dolphin is very appealing. In Robert Graves’ account of the myth, the dolphin could not bear to be parted from Arion, and accompanied him back to court, where “it soon succumbed to a life of luxury.” However, Herodotus says that, after his rescue and return to Corinth, Arion failed to return the dolphin to the sea, and it died there. Apollo placed the dolphin among the stars, and next to it, Arion’s lyre, in recognition of his musical skill. This is one of the mythical explanations of the origins of the constellations Delphinus and Lyra. It seems natural to sing a story that has singing at its heart. When I was asked by the Nicholas Berwin Charitable Trust to write a choral work for Making Music, something that would be within reach of many choirs, and involve children, this story struck me as ideal: the men of the chorus could be the bloodthirsty sailors, and the women could create an atmosphere of mystery for the arrival of the dolphins, represented by children’s voices. There would be one solo voice: Arion, the marvellous singer. Andrew Fardell, the conductor who was advisor to this commission, had suggested that I might use the same instrumentation as a popular arrangement of Orff’s Carmina Burana, a work that, as well as using children’s chorus, features a solo countertenor. I thought the magical, otherworldly quality of this voice would help to convey the extraordinary effect Arion’s singing had on all who heard it. - Jonathan Dove $18.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Flute SKU: HL.49007913 Grundregeln zur Melodiegestaltung. Composed by Peter-Lukas Graf. This edition: Paperback/Soft Cover. Sheet music. Edition Schott. Classical. 128 pages. Schott Music #ED 8318. Published by Schott Music (HL.49007913). ISBN 9790001084659. German. Musical interpretation is first and foremost a question of shaping a melody or the melodic line of a setting. Music, like any language, follows its own set of rules and a sufficient knowledge and familiarity with musical 'grammar' is therefore an essential prerequisite of any convincing interpretation. The internationally renowned performer and teacher Peter-Lukas Graf explains in great detail the parameters that have to be taken into account for a successful interpretation: rhythm, metre, agogics, articulation, phrasing, ornamentation and implied polyphony, etc. Numerous examples from the flute repertoire of the 17th-20th century serve as models from which he derives the 'rules' appropriate for an interpretation in keeping with each period. * These rules are not intended to be dogmatic but instead should stimulate the players to form their own opinion. About 'rules' * Preface * Golden rules for the interpreter * The structure and analysis of melody * Notes on the execution of ornamentation in the 17th and 18th centuries * Ornamentation in the 19th and 20th centuries * Phrasing * Rhythm * Accents * Dynamics * Tempo * Metre * Flexibility of rhythm/rubato * Shaping the musical phrase * Conclusion * Bibliography * Index * Musical examples. $41.95 - See more - Buy online

Piano solo - Grade 2 SKU: IG.PMS121 Composed by Peter Nostrand. Score. Duration 3 minutes, 35 seconds. Imagine Music Publishing #PMS121. Published by Imagine Music Publishing (IG.PMS121). 9 x 12 in inches. Innocence is available for either piano solo or piano and chamber accompaniment (flute, clarinet, first and second violins, viola and cello). It is a good learning tool for aspiring musicians at or above a beginner's level.
Technically, the piece contains several tertian harmonies and simple flares of credenza-like complexities. The form is a through composed inspiration that later becomes more refined in terms of symmetry and balance. Less technically described, Innocence was written to demonstrate the differences and the compatibility between traditional and untraditional harmonic development. Students will or should recognize the two different approaches.
In the most traditional approach, the listener is typically able to predict how the melody will unfold. It is like a journey down a road where the passengers can see all the straight-aways and turns ahead. Innocence , however, while never discarding or disrespecting musical grammar, is occasionally innocently twisted to hijack the listener into gently surprising and unanticipated turns. It is a good learning tool to point out the different approaches to composition. It is also simply a fun and entertaining piece in and of itself. $8.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Spinning Jenny is a portrait of Leigh, Lancashire circa 1948 and one of a series of occasional pieces inspired by Davies' youth in Salford. Spinning Jenny Street was a noisy, hazardous street, clangerous with industry and activity when davies was at Grammar school in 1945. A modest work, but one which reflects many aspects of the place, period and people it was inspired by. Commissioned by the BBC, it was first performed on 21st July 199 as part of the BBC promenade concert at the Royal Albert Hall by the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Davies himself. This is the miniature format of the full orchestral score.. $37.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

To celebrate 25 years of excellence and promotion of new concert works, the New York Virtuoso Singers commissioned 25 contemporary composers for 25 new choral works, all of which now appear on their recording, 25 X 25: Twenty-Five Premieres for Twenty-Five Years. Among the 25 is Richard Wernick's The Devil's Game. Here, Wernick uses The Devil's Verse, a Latin palindrome that still puzzles us today as to its meaning, and appropriately embraces repetitive use of the verse in a musical palindrome of his own. The text is a palindrome (in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni), a rather mysterious one called The Devil’s Verse. Its origin is vague (probably Roman, but possibly Medieval) and it does not surrender its meaning easily; many scholars have fussed over it. It is a riddle as well as a palindrome, in other words a puzzle within a puzzle. My preferred translation, without going into the niceties of Latin grammar, is “We enter the circle at night and are consumed by fire.â€This music is also a palindrome, the outer parts of which are homophonic, while the turning around point in the center (where the basses enter for the first time) is a brief double canon. $2.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Eduard Putz (1911-2000) studied with Heinrich Lemacher and Hermann Schroeder at the Cologne Musikhochschule and later worked as a music teacher at the grammar school in Rheinbach near Bonn as well as a composition teacher at the Rhenish Music School in Cologne. Overcoming the boundaries between serious and entertaining music was what mattered to him which is why he wrote many works which tried to combine jazz and new music. His 'Adagietto' for violoncello and piano (1990) was discovered within the composer's estate and published for the first time. Prof. Julius Berger arranged the piece for practical playing, adding appropriate fingerings. A short performance piece with interesting harmonies and arpeggios in the piano part and expressive cantilenas in the cello part. $13.99 - See more - Buy online
