Chamber Music Bass Flute, Piano SKU: PR.114418900 Composed by Daniel Dorf...(+)
Chamber Music Bass Flute, Piano SKU: PR.114418900 Composed by Daniel Dorff. Set of Score and Parts. 24+8 pages. Duration 14 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41890. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114418900). ISBN 9781491129517. UPC: 680160668632. A welcome addition to the bass flute repertoire, Dorff’s 14-minute sonata is designed as two pairs of slow-fast movements. While composed as a complete 4-movement sonata, either half may be performed alone as a 7-minute recital work. The movement titles are: I. Sprawling, burbling; II. Sparkling, glistening; III. Under Winter; and IV. Spring Spirits. When Peter Sheridan commissioned me to write a piece for bass flute and piano, his only requests were a sonata-like multi-movement work, and some kind of reference to New York, where we both grew up. Just the thought of a bass flute, with its broad and mighty airstream, already reminded me of the mighty Hudson River: from the dense woods of upstate New York, through the beautiful landscapes of New Paltz and Poughkeepsie, down through the celebrated Manhattan waterway. As I daydreamed how to build a sonata inspired by the Hudson, I thought of its deep primal nature carved by the Ice Age, and the life within the river and on its shores long before humans arrived. I thought of how the river’s magnetism drew Native Americans who honored and built their lives around it. I thought of beautiful trees and wildlife, the annual cycles of ecosystems, and the natural symbiosis between the river itself, the life within, and the life on land spawned by the river’s resources.I wondered what if Thoreau had sat by the Hudson rather than by Walden Pond; I wondered what if Hesse had set Siddhartha in the Hudson Valley with this river as his metaphor for the flow of life and time.I wondered whether the sonata should flow from north to south, or have chronological references. I wondered if I should allude to the many poets and painters who have drawn inspiration from the mighty Hudson. Every thought led to the river’s essence, its own spirit and life — flowing through raw nature, from skinny trickles to mightiness spawning cities; supporting subtle life, and becoming a central commons for human societies. The subtitle Spirit of the Hudson brings it all together.* * *The sonata is built in 4 movements, with formal inspiration from the Baroque: A slow Mvt. 1 “Sprawling, burbling†leads directly to the rapid Mvt. 2 “Sparkling, glistening,†followed by another slow-fast pair: Mvt. 3 “Under Winter†which leads directly into Mvt. 4 “Spring Spirits.†In addition to performances of the complete sonata, either pair of movements may be performed on its own for a shorter concert segment.SONATA (SPIRIT OF THE HUDSON) was premiered at the International Low Flutes Festival in April 2018 by its commissioner, bass flutist Peter Sheridan, with Hyeeun Hahm as pianist. $21.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Guitar solo - Advanced SKU: DZ.DZ-4319 Composed by Paolo Rosini. Score. Les Productions d'OZ #DZ 4319. Published by Les Productions d'OZ (DZ.DZ-4319). ISBN 9782898522369. The Suite for guitar aims to blend tradition and modernity through the use of a language with a neobaroque imprint. The canonical utilization of the fixed dances of the Suite (Allemande, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue preceded by an introductory Prelude) serves as a clear reference to the corresponding Baroque model characterized by alternation between slow and fast movements. The style, on the other hand, appears to be moderately dissonant, yet still focused on a well-defined tonal framework. A personal use of both dissonances and modulations is intended to enhance the auditory experience while maintaining a strong connection to a specific tonal center (E), which serves as a stable reference point in the organization of the musical material.
$9.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Six Sonatas Potenza Music
Bass trombone or tuba and piano SKU: P2.80062 Composed by Johann Galliard...(+)
Bass trombone or tuba and piano SKU: P2.80062 Composed by Johann Galliard. Arranged by Micah Everett. Solo music, 18th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.80062). These settings of the Galliard bassoon sonatas grew out of a perceived need for more intermediate-early advanced solo literature for the bass trombone, as well as more settings of Baroque-period works for that instrument. While the sonatas are playable on the bass trombone in their original keys (whether at pitch or down one octave), by setting them in lower keys I have endeavored to make them useful for developing tone quality and technique in the valve register, while not going so low that clarity and facility might be compromised (as can be the case when playing in the original keys down one octave). The new keys I have chosen for each of the sonatas are closely related to the original ones, in every case down a perfect fourth or perfect fifth, so something of the sound of the original keys is maintained. Other than the key changes I have made very few adjustments to the intervals in the solo or left hand keyboard parts; in the places where I have done the most editing I have provided cues for the original intervals and/or rhythms so that the player can choose whether to perform the simplified part I have provided or something closer to the original. The new keys (as well as copyright considerations) necessitated that I provide entirely new figured bass realizations for the accompanist's right hand. These are entirely my own, though in the early stages of this project I did consult with Professor Stacy Rodgers, my colleague and collaborator at the University of Mississippi. I have provided more than a simple harmonic accompaniment in my realization; each movement has a number of short melodic passages to provide interest in the keyboard part for both performer and listener. Still, I have been purposefully reserved in writing these parts, and in no case should the keyboardist feel obligated to strictly adhere to the part as I have written it. I have left the figured bass in the score so that the performer can modify and/or build upon what I have provided, particularly in the repeats (as Professor Rodgers did when playing and recording one of the sonatas with me). I have labeled the accompaniment part simply as keyboard with the understanding that these sonatas were originally intended for performance with harpsichord (assisted by cello or bassoon) or organ, though I am sure that the vast majority of performances of these arrangements will have piano as the accompanying instrument. My keyboard part has thus been written with that instrument in mind. If performing with harpsichord assisted by cello or bassoon those players will need to make adjustments in places where the bass lines extend below the ranges of their instruments. While I am confident that my right hand part is a faithful realization of the harmonic structure indicated by the composer, no attempt has been made either in my keyboard realization or in my light editing of the solo part to adhere to present scholarly conventions regarding the interpretation of early music. I have constructed these arrangements to meet the needs of twenty-first-century student (and professional) bass trombonists, and thus I have provided the interpretive markings which I believe will yield the most pleasing performances on that instrument. That said, I have sought to be modest in my indications of tempo, dynamics, articulation, and ornamentation, as these sonatas will admit varying interpretations in those respects. Performers and teachers are welcome and encouraged to experiment in order to find the interpretations which they think most effective. Although I originally created these arrangements with the bass trombone in mind, I am sure that they will work equally well on tuba. Due to range considerations similar to those I mentioned above for the bass trombone, they might be particularly better-suited to performance on the F or E-flat tubas than previous editions of these sonatas. I am looking forward to using these arrangements with my students on both instruments, and hope that others will find them useful, as well. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Soprano & Organ SKU: SU.80101426 For Soprano & Organ. Composed by ...(+)
Soprano & Organ SKU: SU.80101426 For Soprano & Organ. Composed by Carson Cooman. Vocal/Choral, Solo Voice. Accompanied by organ. Performance Score. Zimbel Press #80101426. Published by Zimbel Press (SU.80101426). Set includes 2 scoresCirce (2010–11), a cantata for soprano and organ, takes a contemporary approach to the genre of the baroque secular solo cantata. As with many baroque works, the subject matter is taken from the classical world; in this case it is the story of Circe, the sorceress (or minor goddess: daughter of the sun god Helios and the sea nymph Perse) from Homer’s Odyssey. However,in the spirit of contemporary adaptation, the texts are three poems by American poet Louise Glück from her book Meadowlands (1996), a large section of which contains poems related to characters from the Odyssey. In the Odyssey, Odysseus and his men, returning home from the Trojan War, are lured to Circe’s island (Aeaea). Through her magic, Circe transforms Odysseus’s men into animals, but with help from the god Hermes, Odysseus is able to resist her magic himself, and Circe is forced to restore his men to human form. For the next year, Odysseus and his men remain on the island in leisure, and Odysseus becomes Circe’s lover. However, after the year has passed, Odysseus decides to continue the journey home to Ithaca (to return to his wife Penelope, who is patiently waiting for him). Circe reluctantly lets him go. Despite her divine heritage, the Circe of Glück’s poems is consumed with the quite human emotions of longing, bitterness, and jealousy. The musical language of the work is contemporary, though there is a great deal of allusion to baroque style and specific musical forms (including sarabande, loure, ground, plaint, and musette).Soprano and Organ Duration: 9’ Composed: 2010 Published by: Zimbel Press. $26.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Trumpet(s) solo SKU: BR.DV-32027 Trumpet Music of the 17th and 18th Centuries. Composed by Kurt (Hrsg.) Janetzky. Edited by Kurt Janetzky. Solo instruments; Softcover. Deutscher Verlag. Z.T. mit Pauken und B.c. Baroque period. Score. 24 pages. Deutscher Verlag fur Musik #DV 32027. Published by Deutscher Verlag fur Musik (BR.DV-32027). ISBN 9790200425192. 9 x 12 inches. Bicinia - unaccompanied duos - have been known to us from the fifteenth century onwards. So quite early on it was customary tu practise this type of musical exercise, which later, especially during the Romantic period, achieved great popularity as the duo or duett. Equal numbers of this sort of instrumental duo were composed for nearly all wind and string instruments. On the other hand, only a small amount of compositions for two trumpets have come down to us. In order to play any music which progresses beyond pure fanfare on a natural (valueless) trumpet, it is necessary to make use of the clarion register (the top third of the natural harmonic). And if such a melody is to be accompanied by a second part, only the few natural notes lying below it are left, or else this high register itself, which calls for great virtuosity on the part of the trumpeter. As well as this, we must remember the fact that trumpet-playing was only allowed for the trumpeters of a royal court, army, staff, or for the field-trumpeter of a prince, plus a few council, city, and church musicians, who were bound by strict guild and corporation rules. Thus in spite of the preference for its festive sound, the spread and handing down of trumpet music was almost reduced to nothing under these circumstances. As well as this, pride of place and profession rivalry and envy amongst musicians contributed in large part. In England the situation was somewhat freer. Here pretty little trumpet duos originated, including, amongst others, those written by Handel for his master-trumpeter Valentin Snow and the Royal Sergeant-trumpeters of the Shore family. An especially happy exception was the diocese of Olmiitz. Here there was a capable group of musicians of the chapel royal with the brilliantly talented group of trumpeters and the field-trumpeter Pavel Vajvanovsky, who also composed himself. These trumpeters in the service of his prince-bishop played many sacred and secular pieces, all for several instruments. It was for them also that Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber wrote the 12 double trumpet sonatas we present here. On the other hand, the representatives of the authorities in Germany ensured strict observation of all edicts and regulations. Even the celebrated Bach-trumpeter and towm-piper Gottfried Reiche was never allowed to be portrayed with a proper trumpet due to the priveleges of court and field trumpeters. In order to represent him as one of the greatest masters of his time and art, however, the painter placed an instrument similar to a corno-di-caccia in his hand, together with a sheet with a small piece for virtuoso clarion. When we try in spite of these difficulties and adverse circumstances to gather a collection of musically valuable and characteristic examples of popular pieces for two trumpets from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it is in the first, place in order to acquaint modern trumpeters with something of the wealth of music, which can also be well played on a modern trumpet with valves. The originally used trumpets correspond to modern ones in the keys of C and D, but this does not mean that many of the pieces cannot be transposed to a more comfortable register. On top of this, we have tried to give a picture of the baroque court and field trumpeter, as well as of the mysterious clarion trumpeter, with the help of musically popular material. The origin of most of the pieces used is no longer clearly discernable. In most cases we possess second- or third-hand copies which have been handed down, and show signs of frequent use. A few cases where modernization of the second part obviously did not take place until the invention of stops, have been re-shaped into their supposed original form. A series of further dynamic details were left, and marked as optional suggestions in brackets. Kurt Janetzky

Basso Continuo, Choral, Strings (Score) SKU: HL.50601273 Critical Edit...(+)
Basso Continuo, Choral, Strings (Score) SKU: HL.50601273 Critical Edition Practical Series Score. Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Michael Talbot. Choral. Baroque, Classical. Softcover. 48 pages. Ricordi #PR1449. Published by Ricordi (HL.50601273). 7.75x10.5 inches. This single-movement setting of the Vesper psalm Laetatus sum was discovered by Michael Talbot in the spring of 2017 among the online collection of digitized scores of sacred music held by the SLUB in Dresden. Four works by Vivaldi deliberately misattributed to Baldassare Galuppi by the Venetian copyist Iseppo Baldan had already been uncovered in the previous decades, and it was during anexploratory examination of scores sharing a paper type and copyist (Baldan himself) with them that this fifth such work came to light. Vivaldi's single movement pieno settings (for choir alone without soloists) form an important subset of his sacred vocal music, and this new setting is the most elaborate and expansive of any of them. It features effective musical contrasts, and its many felicitous examples of word-painting show what a complete master of vocal composition he had become by the 1730s, the decade from which this setting clearly originates. As usual in Vivaldi's choral compositions the ever-changing relationship between the vocal and instrumental components constantly fascinates, as each in turn captures the listener's attention. This previously unknown Laetatus sum promises to become a much-performed work. $22.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

De Haske Publications #DHP 1135396-020. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1135396-020). 9x12 inches. English-Dutch. This musical fantasy depicts the history of the Dutch fortified town of Elburg. The work begins with an atmospheric medieval picture of the Convent of St Agnes, the nunnery that was built in the first half of the 15th century. We hear the sound of the convent bells together with an upward motif, which will reappear later in the work. Next, the rest of Elburg is featured, including the fortress - from which the bells of the Sint-Nicolaaskerk (Saint Nicholas Church) are ringing. Then, cheerful sounds can be heard at the Vischpoort (Fish Gate), where a dancing group is performing a 16th century French folk dance (a branle des chevaux). We also hear old wagons rumbling over the town’scobble stones. Trade made this Hanseatic town a lively place. The repetitive upward motif first heard in the introduction now develops into a more distinct feature, reflecting the mercantile spirit of the town residents. Then follows the slow middle movement, in which the clock has been turned back to the time when Elburg was still lying on the Zuiderzee (which was a bay of the North Sea), and was struggling with floods. After the second St. Marcellus Flood (1362) and the water flood of 1367 it was decided that the town would be relocated. We now hear the theme of branle des chevaux in a minor key, followed by a death bell sounding in remembrance of the drowned citizens of the former town. Back in our own time, a slow, expressive theme in Baroque style mirrors Elburg’s tranquil places, such as the Feithenhof (Feithen Court) and the Weduwenhofje (Widow Court). Then the bustle returns with motifs from the introduction, followed by an attractive theme in which present-day Elburg is portrayed with its many tourists. Now, suddenly, there is an echo from the past, depicting the dramatic floods and wars that once plagued the town. This leads to the grand closing theme: branle des chevaux is heard for a final time from the perspective of the historic town centre.
$203.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Ode for St. Cecilias Day Choral SATB [Score and Parts] Carus Verlag
ST vocal soli, SATB choir, flute, 2 oboes, 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 violins, viola...(+)
ST vocal soli, SATB choir, flute, 2 oboes, 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.1037219 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Christine Martin. Arranged by Paul Horn. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Handel. German title: Ode For St.Cecilia'S Day. Innovative practice aids, Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Special days. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed 1739. HWV 76. Duration 50 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 10.372/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1037219). ISBN 9790007133795. Language: English. Text: Dryden, John. Text: John Dryden. During the late 17th century English musicians celebrated each year on 22 November the feast of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, with special concerts and church services. With his Ode for St. Cecilia's Day Handel rejuvenated the tradition of this festival on St. Cecilia's Day in 1732. This so-called little St. Cecilia Ode is a musically joyful glorification of the power of music: two festive choruses frame five charming arias in each of which a solo instrument is used for contrasting effect in the baroque manner. Handel allows the soloists a wealth of freedom to improvise and to display their skills. This is especially the case for the organ, which was his favorite instrument. | Sonata da Chiesa Op 1 nos 1-3 [Score and Parts] - Intermediate Forton Music
Mixed Wind Ensemble Double Reed Book (double reeds) - Intermediate SKU: FT.FM...(+)
Mixed Wind Ensemble Double Reed Book (double reeds) - Intermediate SKU: FT.FM070 Composed by Arcangelo Corelli. Arranged by Robert Rainford. Score and parts. Forton Music #FM070. Published by Forton Music (FT.FM070). ISBN 9790708085690. Double Reed Ensemble (part 1 oboe or bassoon, part 2 oboe or bassoon, part 3 oboe, cor or bassoon) - part of the Combined Wind Trio series. Corelli's first three Trio Sonatas make a great first step into ensemble music and the music of the baroque. Each sonata consists of four movements of varying lengths and difficulty, with equal interest in all parts. Oboe 1 goes up briefly to top F, but a lower ossia is given. If played as a bassoon trio, the top two bassoon parts spend most of the time in the tenor clef and are not for the faint hearted, but grade 8 players will be well rewarded. Parts may be mixed with the companion arrangements for flute, clarinet and sax ensembles. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
