Frauenchor. Par HAYDN FRANZ JOSEF. Haydn presumably wrote his 'Missa brevis” in 1775 for the Brothers Hospitallers of Eisenstadt Abbey. The work takes its nickname, the 'Little Organ Mass', from the organ solo in the 'Benedictus”. This arrangement for female choir (SMezAA) is based on the complete edition of the 'Works of Joseph Haydn”. The original soprano and alto parts have, for the most part, been taken over, as has the soprano solo in the 'Benedictus”. The tenor and bass parts are distributed among the mezzo-sopranos and altos, with a few well thought-out alterations to preserve the harmonic structure. Heribert Breuer has retained the original substance with great skill while giving the work a wholly new and attractive sound. Heribert Breuer was professor of choral conducting and music theory at Berlin University of the Arts until 2010. Par SUK JOSEF. First scholarly-critical edition The single-movement String Quartet #2 by Josef Suk (1874-1935) was written at the height of his compositional powers. Completed in Krecovice in May 1911, this demanding work, with its complex harmonies and motivic structure, seemed avant-garde for its day: the Berlin premiere of November 1912 was accompanied by protests from the audience. Now Zdenek Nouza has edited the first scholarly-critical edition of this piece. The principal source is the first edition in full score, published by Simrock in Berlin. Wer kennt es nicht, das Lied ?Guantanamera'? Auf eine Melodie des kubanischen Musikstils Guajira und einen Text des dortigen Nationalhelden José Martí zurückgehend, wurde sie von José Fernández Díaz in den 30er-Jahren als Refrain zu Improvisationen über aktuelle Tagesthemen benutzt. Pete Seeger griff das Martí-Original 1963 bei einem Konzert in der New Yorker Carnegie-Hall wieder auf - es wurde zu einer ?Hymne' der amerikanischen Gewerkschaftsbewegung. In unzähligen Versionen ist der Titel seitdem gesungen worden, bis hin zum Rudi-Völler-Schlachtgesang, der im Jahre 2002 in den Fußballstadien widerhallte.
