Fanfares, flowing melodies, and tastefully orchestrated choirs of woodwinds and brass instruments are featured. Low voices and percussion flex their muscles in heavy metal moments inspired by the composer's rock-and-roll background. (3:25).

Originally commissioned by the Kansas State University Student Brass Quintet for their 2004 ITG World Conference performance. The folkish opening section echoes over a driving bassline. Obligatory trombone and tuba solos crown the ethereal middle section. The piece resumes the drive in the end. Throughout there are bright solo spots for each instrument.

Bothnian Rhapsody was commissioned by the Finnish Pohjanmaa (Bothnian) Military Band for their 50th anniversary in 2003. Being myself of ethnic Ostrobothnian descent, I was so thrilled that the Rhapsody was finished a year in advance. Listeners may recognise some of the Finnish folk- song allusions such as The Fighting Song. The International Trumpet Guild published the brass quintet version as a supplement to the March 2007 ITG Journal. In the summer of 2007 The U.S. wind quintet Calico Winds asked me via email l if there was a wind quintet version. There is one by tomorrow, I replied.
