The first composer to warrant a place in the musical history of Finland, Erik Tulindberg (1761-1814) was an excellent violinist, and he also played the cello. His musical reputation spread all the way to Stockholm (Finland was at that time part of the Kingdom of Sweden), and in 1797 was there admitted as a member of the Royal Academy of Music. The I violin, viola and cello parts of Tulindberg’s String Quartets were discovered in 1923 in the collections of Helsinki University Library. They were copies of the instrumental parts presumably made by Tulindberg himself, though they were possibly never used during his lifetime. Not only is the whole of the II violin part missing; the first movement of the viola part of the fifth Quartet stops in the middle of a phrase, and the last 60 bars or so of the movement’s manuscript page are just empty staves. In the early 2000s, the Rantatie Quartet asked Anssi Mattila whether he would like to reconstruct the missing II violin part. The job was finished in 2004 and the Rantatie Quartet released a Classical Emma-winning disc of the Quartets in 2006.This product includes the full score and the set of parts.

The cantata Widerstehe doch der Sunde BWV 54 is now one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most popular solo cantatas. The short text, which comprises three movements, comes from a 1711 collection of cantata texts by the Darmstadt court poet Christian Lehms, and warns in drastic terms that no sinner will inherit the kingdom of God. It is certainly no coincidence that Bach allocated this text to an alto voice, then often regarded as a symbol for the repentant sinner. The cantata comes from Bach's Weimar period and only survives in a fair copy of the score by Johann Gottfried Walther (music text ) and Johann Tobias Krebs (vocal text underlay). This didn't 't present any difficulties in preparing an edition. In Lehms' word book the cantata is allocated to Oculi Sunday (the third Sunday in Lent), but can also readily be sung on other occasions in the church year. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3105400.

The title is a popular saying in England. It means that's where the money is. Where there's muck, there's power is such a popular expression in the United Kingdom. The saying inspired Peter Martin to compose a highly attractive piece in four parts, consisting of contemporary dances that can also be performed separately. Let's dance! 'Where there's muck there is power' is zo'n gevleugelde uitspraak uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Let's dance! 1. Easy does it - Steady Rock Een aanstekelijk stukje in rock-stijl. 4. The Supreme Skedaddle - alla US March Eenuitsmijter vormt de Supreme Skedaddle, een mars in US-stijl.

Imagining life in the ancient English lands of Mercia (600-900 AD), Martin wrote 12 scenes of what he believed life was like in the kingdom. Martin's twelve quintets were completed in the Spring of 2016 and have already been performed in their entirety. The numbering reflects the composer's suggested performance sequence, but individual quintets may, of course, be performed separately.

The Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep IV, better known as Achnaton, was the second son and successor of Amenhotep III. He reigned the New Kingdom from 1353 until 1336 BC. Achnatons lack of interest in the economic well-being of Egypt ushered ina revolutionary period in Egyptian history. His harsh reign induced much suffering under the population. During this period when it was customary for a pharaoh to have many wives, he had taken his cousin Nefertete to reign as queen at hisside. An elegant and very beautiful woman, she used her influence to ease the turmoil caused by Achnaton. Combined with her grace, her presence at public functions led to a greater popularity among her subjects than the pharaoh enjoyedhimself. Being mostly preoccupied with religious questions, he declared that all the other gods did not exist. There was only one god, the Aten, and it was the sun itself. It was now necessary to change his name: ‘Amenhotep’ meaning ‘the god Amun is satisfied’, because he didnt want to be associated with Amun or any of the other deities. He renamed himself ‘Achnaton’ which means ‘servant of the Aten’ -- a much more appropriate title! In the sixth year of his reignAchnaton also moved the capital to a brand new city called Achet-Aton (‘the Horizon of the Aten’) which was where Tel el-Amarna stands today. He did this to further isolate himself from the ‘old’ religion, since the previous capital Thebes was thecentre of worship of Amun. This new religion created an up rise among the population and high priests. In spite of Nefertetes influence, the falling economy and religious conflict resulted in the decline of the Egyptian empire. Hoping toforget it ever happened, people later tried to eradicate all traces of Achnaton and his successors rule by smashing their statues, mutilating their mummies, and ruining their relief carvings. From that moment on he was remembered as the‘heretic king’.
