The popularity of coloring books for the adult and young adult, while relatively recent, has become one of the faster growing recreational activities for artists of all skill levels. It took the innovation of the publisher you've known for many years, however, to marry the visual arts with music in this never before seen original concept and series, exclusively available from Santorella Publications.
Experience the high quality you've come to expect from Santorella Publications in The Colors of Music, with over 60 musical instruments depicted with intricate background patterns. Each image is printed on heavy stock on only one side of the page to avoid bleed-through. Printed in the larger 9 x 12 size, with Santorella's lay-flat binding, the book is designed to last for years, while each page is perforated for easy removal and coloring. Every illustration, while a work of art on its own, will become a one-of-a-kind original piece with your personal touch; a work of art truly suitable for framing.
The foreword from, The Colors of Music.
From the dawn of time, coloring has been one of the most basic forms of self-expression and is often the first creative process which many of us experience. Taking an existing image or pattern and making it our own is a uniquely personal experience. We decide which creative implements to use, perhaps crayons, pencils, or markers, and which colors to apply. As we color, we find we are in control of the entire process, limited only by our imagination, and when we are done, we have an artistic embodiment of our own personality, as unique and individual as each of us is to the other.
It makes no difference if we are relatively skilled or unskilled; we express what is in our heart and mind each and every time we set pencil to paper. As we become more experienced and skilled, we acquire the power through technique and style to more freely express what is so clear in our imagination. In time, our creations become freely expressed works of art.
The same can be said of music. The musician chooses their instrument, then takes an existing pattern of melody and chords and adds unique colors to them to make that piece of music uniquely their own. As musicians, we practice to become more experienced in order to acquire the skills to more freely add our own brand of expression and style to the music.
Both of these art forms have creativity at their core. They allow the artist or musician, both young and old, to freely express feelings within while providing a sense of joy, tranquility, and meditative focus.
The Colors of Music literally reminds us that art and music are on the same page. This trend-setting series, by Santorella Publications, will provide both the artist and musician with yet another creative channel for self-expression and individualism.
Amateur and professional alike will also appreciate the opportunity for some much-needed downtime from the hard work of practicing, or simply the rigors of everyday life, while still being able to enjoy the art form they love. After all, creating art and music is supposed to be fun. $16.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Piano (Study Score) SKU: HL.132293 Version for One Piano. Composed by Frederic Chopin. Edited by Jan Ekier and Pawel Kaminski. PWM. Classical. Study Score. Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne #51600915. Published by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne (HL.132293). UPC: 884088971274. Piano concertos combine two elements: pure playing and full poetic expression. Virtuosity and romance. Pianistic brilliance, educated in the works in the stile brillant, brought to perfection, but at the same time - a farewell. Both are forms of direct expression of the personality of the composer, which showed itself in them for the first time with so much strength and is manifested in a group of characteristics of forming Chopin's individual style. Piano Concerto in F minor In terms of size, substantially smaller than the E minor concerto and also a different kind of expression: more lyrical, drawn in delicate pastel colours. Especially famous is the second movement, the Larghetto, which Chopin wrote under the inspiration of his first love. Critical source-edition edited by Jan Ekier and Pawel Kaminski based on manuscripts, copies approved by Chopin himself, and first editions. Its purpose is to present the works of Chopin in authentic form. The historical version of the score of the Concerto, based on the semi-autograph and parts from the first editions, forms volume 21 A XVe, and the concert version of the score, recreated by taking into consideration also other sources which present Chopin's intention, constitutes volume 34 B VIIIb. $18.99 - See more - Buy online

Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA09461-91). ISBN 9790006565474. 27 x 19 cm inches. Text Language: Latin. TheMesse de Requiemis probably the internationally best-known and most frequently performed work by Gabriel Faure . The composer's first version was limited to just five movements and small-scale forces with low strings, harp and organ. The work was then expanded several times culminating in the version for large orchestra of 1900. This orchestral version forms the basis of this edition.
Despite its comparatively long period of gestation, the Requiem forms a stylistic unity. Unlike other requiem settings, the composer foregoes any theatrical gestures in this work. A restrained dynamic range together with graceful melodic writing for both soloists and choir give the work a gentle and optimistic character.
The choral score just as the vocal score are based on the volume of the Complete Works of Gabriel Faure (BA 9461) published in 2010. It is important to note that this choral score is also compatible with the first small-scale version as well as the second chamber orchestra version.

Published by Sikorski (HL.50600662). 8.25x11.75x0.082 inches. “This piece is the expression of my admiration for the married couple Hyun-Jung and Julius Berger, two remarkable musicians and outstanding violoncellists. As representatives of two different cultures which are far removed from each other in many respects, this couple forms a magnificent, harmonious family and has given the world two delightful boys. During the Asiago Festival in Italy, I had the good fortune to observe the everyday life of this wonderful family, whose relationship is based on the feeling of love, service to music, mutual trust and help. My composition is inspired by these unforgettable impressions. To speak in the language of musical associations: the clarinet part contains grace, elegance, femininity and the goodness of the wife, whereas noblesse, power, temperament and romanticism of the husband are found in the violoncello part. Consent and harmony always reign between these two parts; the roles of the soloist and accompanist are exchanged now and then, but they always maintain a benevolent agreement and complete similarity, complementing and supporting each other. I hope that my musical present will find its way into Professor Berger's heart.†(Franghiz Ali-Zadeh). $24.99 - See more - Buy online
| Sardanapalo, Act 1 (Fragment) Piano, Voice EMB (Editio Musica Budapest)
Voice and Piano SKU: BT.EMBZ20017A New Liszt Edition, Series IX. Vol.2...(+)
Voice and Piano SKU: BT.EMBZ20017A New Liszt Edition, Series IX. Vol.2.. By David Trippett. By Franz Liszt. EMB New Listz Edition. Classical. Book Hardcover. Composed 2019. 180 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #EMBZ20017A. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ20017A). English-German-Hungarian. In 1845 Franz Liszt embarked on a project to compose an Italian opera based on Lord Byron’s tragedy, Sardanapalus (1821). It was central to his ambition to attain status as a major European composer, with premieres variously planned for Milan, Vienna, Paris and London. But he abandoned it half way through, and the music he completed has lain silently for 170 years. Liszt’s difficulty in obtaining a libretto meant that composition only began in April 1850. He completed virtually all the music for Act 1 in an annotated piano-vocal score of 111 pages, contained within his N4 music ‘sketch book’. The unnamed librettist was an Italian poet and political prisoner, seemingly living under house arrest, and a close acquaintance of Cristina Belgiojoso. His libretto survives as underlay in the N4 sketchbook and has been critically reconstructed and translated. Sardanapalo is Liszt’s only mature opera. While he consistently referred to it in French, as Sardanapale, the published title of the Italian opera would almost certainly have used the Italian name, hence this forms the title of the first edition. There are three solo roles and a chorus of concubines. The manuscript was previously thought to be fragmentary and partially illegible, but it was finally deciphered to international acclaim in March 2017. Liszt’s score offers a richly melodic style, with elements from Bellini and Verdi alongside glimmers of Wagner and the symphonic poems ahead: a unique mixture of Italianate pastiche and mid-century harmonic innovation. It remains quintessentially Lisztian. The opera sets Byron’s tragedy about war and peace in ancient Assyria: the last King, effeminate in his tastes, is drawn to wine, concubines and feasts more than politics and war: his subjects find him dishonourable (a ‘man queen’) and military rebels seek to overthrow him, but are pardoned, for the King rejects the ‘deceit of glory’ built on others’ suffering: this leads only to a larger uprising, the Euphrates floods its banks, destroying the castle’s main defensive wall, and defeat is inevitable: the King sends his family away and orders that he be burned alive with his lover, amid scents and spices in a grand inferno. As Byron put it: ‘not a mere pillar formed of cloud and flame, but a light to lessen ages.’ For his part, Liszt told a friend that his finale ‘will even aim to set fire to the entire audience!’ This critical edition includes a detailed study on the genesis of Liszt’s Sardanapalo in English, German, and Hungarian, the libretto in the original Italian as well as in English, German, and Hungarian translation, several facsimile pages of Liszt’s manuscript, and a detailed Critical Report. $130.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Sonata for Solo Violin Violin Merion Music
Chamber Music Violin SKU: PR.144407530 Composed by Lauren Bernofsky. 12 p...(+)
Chamber Music Violin SKU: PR.144407530 Composed by Lauren Bernofsky. 12 pages. Duration 10 minutes, 30 seconds. Merion Music #144-40753. Published by Merion Music (PR.144407530). ISBN 9781491136614. UPC: 680160687992. A violinist herself, Lauren Bernofsky has described SONATA FOR SOLO VIOLIN as drawn from autobiographical inspiration, including gestures from Bachâ??s beloved Partita in E Major. Bernofsky opens with a Preludio movement whose references to Bach may be disguised, but they are surely lurking. The second movement is lusciously contrapuntal with the idiomatic finesse of a violinist composing for her own instrument, while musically journaling the emotional pain of living through 2020. The third and final movement is aptly marked â??white-hot,â? and the music certainly is. My SONATA FOR SOLO VIOLIN was commissioned by violinist Megan Healy as part of The Maud Powell Project, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. The project included the creation of five new works for solo violin inspired by and dedicated to the memory of pioneering American violinist Maud Powell (1867-1920). Healy premiered the sonata on May 8, 2021 at PianoForte Studios in Chicago.Among the works Powell most frequently performed in her recitals was the â??Preludioâ? movement from Bachâ??s E major Partita, and I decided to refer to that music in my own first movement, also titled â??Preludio.â? The beginning subtly reflects Bachâ??s opening three-note motive, wherein the music dips down a semitone and then comes back up. This melodic material returns throughout the movement in various forms. I also refer to Bachâ??s sixteenth-note dominated texture, and the gesture in the third measure, which outlines a perfect fifth and then fills it in with notes that alternate between a scale and a pedal tone. The corresponding passage in my piece occurs in the same place, measure 3. Apart from these references to Bach, my sonata is much more modern sounding, especially in its chromatic character.I was still thinking of Bachâ??s solo violin writing while composing the second movement, particularly the polyphonic nature of the slow movements, where the melodic interest moves around between the voices. Emotionally, I wanted my movement to reflect the acute sadness I had been experiencing over the political and social situation in the United States as I wrote the piece. I realized that this is a historically noteworthy time in U.S. history, marked not only by political unrest, but also by a challenge to the very values that I consider essential to what makes a person fundamentally human. I wanted to create a record of that pain in my music. The final movement is marked â??White-hot.â? It is imbued with a relentless, passionate intensity. Wanting again to reflect aspects of our own time, I included glissandi that refer to rock music, specifically the â??fall-offsâ? I frequently hear played by electric guitarists. I borrowed from another (completely different) musical tradition as well, one that is near-and-dear to my heart: Klezmer. Klezmer (Eastern European Jewish folk music) is characterized in part by scales colored by augmented seconds, and is often performed by solo instrumentalists who improvise embellishments like quick grace notes. The second, more lyrical theme in this movement is my nod to Klezmer style. While this piece is an homage to Maud Powell, I also think of it as my own musical autobiography, as it combines some of my favorite aspects of music, and is played on my own instrument. $12.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

ISBN 9790006536863. 27 x 19 cm inches. Text Language: Latin. ThePetite Messe solennelleis the finest work of Rossini's late years. He composed it between 1863 and 1864 at the age of 71 as a commission for Countess Louise Pillet -Will for the consecration of her private chapel, where the work received its first performance in March 1864. Together with theStabat mater, the mass is one of the composer's mostimportant sacred works.
The unusual instrumentation with two pianos and harmonium is entirely in keeping with the Neapolitan keyboard tradition of the 18th century which was cultivated in France in Rossini's day. It forms a distinct contrast to the style of large-scale sacred compositions as written by, for example, Liszt and Bruckner. Rossini explained that he wrote the later orchestral version of the work dating from 1867 out of concern that if he did not do this, other composers might orchestrate the mass too heavily in later arrangements.

Chamber Music alto Flute SKU: PR.114423380 Composed by Christine Potter. Performance Score. 4 pages. Duration 3 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-42338. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114423380). ISBN 9781491135129. UPC: 680160686988. Inspired by her friends’ beatboxing and exploration of jazz, flutist Chris Potter joins the fun and brings us along in this introduction to swing rhythm and the basics of beatboxing. Playing off the multiple meanings of “mode†and “à la modeâ€, Dr. Potter fashionably explores a world of varied scales and modern percussive sonorities where the ch- ch- ch- beatboxing attack leads players to chant about ch-ch-chocolate!. A Few Words from ChrisThis title came to me out of nowhere at 4 AM one morning, and I just had to write a piece to go along with it! I love words with multiple meanings, and “mode†has three! The French term à la mode means in a current, fashionable style: in other words, popular. The alto flute certainly fits that description! For Americans, the phrase is used when describing the dessert pie à la mode, meaning pie with ice cream, typically vanilla. Pie à la mode has an interesting history! The phrase and the American dessert is attributed to John Gieriet. He was born in Switzerland, later moved to France, and must have studied cooking because two years after moving to the U.S. in 1854, Gieriet was put in charge of all the food service at the White House. He served under two presidents, Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan. When that job ended, he moved to Duluth, Minnesota and bought a hotel. In 1885, a menu for the hotel offered a dessert called pie à la mode, the first time this phrase had appeared in print. Originally it was blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream. In music, the term mode means a series of notes that have an identifiable pattern of intervals encompassing an octave. Major and minor scales are modes, as are other scale forms such as pentatonic, dorian, phrygian, and lydian. ALTO À LA MODE uses three modes, all based on D. In this piece, you will find the D blues scale (D F G Ab A C D), the D dorian (D E F G A B C D), and the D minor natural form (D E F G A Bb C D).In addition to the three melodic modes, I wanted a rhythmic idea or two to unify the piece. I decided touse the rhythms of the word vanilla: three short notes with emphasis on the second note, and chocolate: two short notes with emphasis on the first note. Also please notice that the spoken syllable cha is the beginning sound of chocolate! All this and no calories!I credit my fabulous friend Ali Ryerson for the jazz influence, and the wonderful composer Nicole Chamberlain for the beatboxing inspiration. $8.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

His work is supplemented by a revised new engraving of the continuo part.

In the summer of 1893 Antonin Dvorak sat down and composed String Quartet In F, Op.96. This beloved quartet was written whilst Dvorak was on vacation in rural Iowa. It is a slow movement for quartet and the finale sweeps along on a energetic, syncopated rhythm in the second violin and viola that shortly transforms itself into a wonderful patchwork of shifting accents. The first violin sings, first randomly and then voluptuously, atop this motoric accompaniment. The quartet is written for 2 violins, viola and cello

Double bass SKU: BA.BA10418-85 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Edited by Jonathan Del Mar. This edition: urtext edition. Stapled. Barenreiter Urtext. Single part. Opus 88. 12 pages. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA10418_85. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA10418-85). ISBN 9790006564699. 32.5 x 25.5 cm inches. Key: G major. Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the premiere; the 'child prodigy' Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Leonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known.
As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Leonard.
The letter informs us that the composer invited Leonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Leonard.
The recently discovered proofs reveal how Leonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering, they also show how Leonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown.
It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn's approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter's correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Leonard's playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany.
This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice.
The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice.
