The pieces are catchy and melodic, demonstrating the use of sequence and voice-leading to make a musical statement. This book includes a play-along CD featuring trombonist Russ Phillips playing each song with a world-class rhythm section. The CD also includes tracks featuring Greg Fishman demonstrating each song on alto saxophone, giving trombone players the option of playing along with Russ Phillips on trombone or with Greg Fishman on alto saxophone. In addition, there are play-along tracks featuring just the rhythm section. These tracks are great for practicing the songs, chords, scales, voice-leading lines and soloing over the chords progressions. Jazz Phrasing for Trombone will provide valuable insights into a melodic approach to jazz improvisation. This book is recommended for trombone players of all levels who wish to improve their tone, articulation, phrasing, and understanding of thematic development. Great melodies, interesting rhythms and beautiful chord progressions. This is the perfect foundation for learning jazz. - Jamey Aebersold This book is a monument to Greg Fishman's superb teaching skills, as well as his clear understanding of the jazz student's early needs. He has purposefully selected accessible tempos, significant melodic rhythms (with their appropriate phrasing) and sensitive note choices, utilizing commonplace chord progressions within the jazz repertory, all impeccably demonstrated on the accompanying compact disc. This book is a must for the early conditioning of jazz students! - Jerry Coker Greg Fishman has created a book of fun, well-written, catchy tunes in a variety of styles for developing jazz players---highly recommended. - Dr. Gregory W. Yasinitsky, Regents Professor of Music & Coordinator of Jazz Studies, Washington State University Songs included in Jazz Phrasing for Trombone - Volume 1: o Milwaukee Avenue Ogden Avenue Narragansett Avenue Belden Avenue Chicago Avenue Quincy Street Rockwell Street Dearborn Street Franklin Street Pearson Street A few words from the preface of the book: Applying good phrasing to music is like using good punctuation in written or spoken language. It involves the grouping of ideas to make the meaning of the words clear to the listener. The words are grouped into sentences, and the sentences are then grouped into paragraphs. The same is true when interpreting a piece of music. Good phrasing requires a musician to interpret the notes he plays, and determine which notes need to be grouped together to form a complete musical idea. Each song in Jazz Phrasing for Trombone is designed to train your ear to hear the logical grouping of phrases through the use of sequence and thematic development. While the art of good phrasing involves the interpretation of note groupings and their relationships, it also involves deciding where you're going to take a breath. Read the following sentences aloud to compare examples of good and bad phrasing. Good phrasing, spoken in one continuous breath: Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the senior class president. Bad phrasing, spoken with extra breaths, disrupting the flow and grouping of the words: Ladies and gentlemen, it gives (breath) me great pleasure to introduce the senior class (breath) president. The difference between these two sentences is very similar to the difference between a professional musician's phrasing and a student's phrasing. Both may be playing the correct notes with the correct rhythm, but the professional musician knows how to group the notes in a smooth, flowing fashion, while the student takes breaths at random, not even aware that he's disrupting the phrasing. Jazz Phrasing for Trombone has been carefully designed to help you learn to phrase like a professional player. These are pieces that will be fun for all musicians who love melodic writing with good thematic development.. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Fanfare Band (Score) - Grade 2 SKU: HL.4008028 For Fanfare Band. C...(+)
Fanfare Band (Score) - Grade 2 SKU: HL.4008028 For Fanfare Band. Composed by Otto M. Schwarz. Duration 135 seconds. Hal Leonard #SDP129-22-101. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.4008028). The Greek poet Homer wrote about Troy and the Trojan War - which probably took place in what is now Asia Minor - in his Iliad in the 8th century B.C. Nowadays, the term 'Trojan' generally refers to a malware program that is used to gain unauthorized access to computers. This use comes from the legendary Trojan Horse, which saw the turning poing in the battle between Greeks and Trojans through the cunning of Odysseus. Let us return to the beginning of the story: Paris, son of the king of Troy, is tasked by Zeus with judging the beauty of the three goddesses Aphrodite, Pallas Athena, and Hera. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, flatters Paris by promising him the most beautiful woman in the world. Soon afterwards, on a journey to Greece, Paris meets the beautiful Helen, who immediately falls in love with him. Since however she is the wife of Spartan king Menelaus, she eventually lets herself be kidnapped by Paris voluntarily. The Greeks then form a large army and go to war against Troy to retrieve Helen, leading to a ten-year siege of the city. The city is eventually conquered not through combat, however, but through Odysseus' cunning ploy. He has the idea of building an enormous wooden horse with warriors hidden inside. The horse is placed at the gates of the city. Thus, the Trojans are tricked into giving up the siege when, despite various warnings, they bring the horse into the city to dedicate it to the goddess Athena. At night, the soldiers climb out of the horse and open the gate for the Greek army. The troops storm the city and raze it to the ground. The royal family and all the Trojan warriors are killed - only Aeneas, the son of Aphrodite, escapes. Later, following many years' wanderings he and his acolytes will become known as the founders of the Roman people. $18.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

The title, Aerius, is a Latin term meaning “soaring†or “rising aloftâ€. This piece is signature Carl Strommen at his best. The piece begins with a lush brass chorale that is developed before leading to an energetic presto section. The composition comes full circle and finishes with a majestic return of the chorale material from the opening. A welcome addition to the repertoire. The title Aerius is a Latin term meaning “soaring†or “rising aloft.†The students chose this title to signify the forward momentum and overall journey of their time in the high school band program. With new events and performances, and a first time commissioning a work, this piece signifies the great strides the band has made in recent years. The opening brass chorale section should be played very connected, observing the two-measure phrasing and breathing as one cohesive unit. The Presto section at m. 25 should be taken between 165-170 bpm. the vibraphone soloist should use medium-hard mallets with the pedal on. The sustained notes at m. 41 should be played way under the upper woodwinds to get the greatest effect as it builds in volume and intensity in m. 49, and again into m. 57.At m. 69, the percussion must sustain the pulse to the conductor’s tempo, careful not to add accents they’re hearing among the other sections. After the ritardando in m. 83, push the tempo at m. 85 slightly to where the woodwinds feel comfortable playing the triplet figure with appropriate breathing and phrasing.- Andrew Monsen, Hauppauge High School Band Director, June 2017. $14.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Voice soloists, SATB chorus, orchestra (4Soprano Voice Solo, 4Tenor Voice Solo, 5Bass Voice Solo, SATB Choir, Ballett, Orch) SKU: BA.BA08857 Opera with a prologue and 3 acts. Composed by Jean-Philippe Rameau. Edited by Pascal Denécheau. This edition: complete edition, urtext edition. Linen. Jean-Philippe Rameau. Opera Omnia (OOR) IV/18. Complete edition, Score. Duration 12 hours. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA08857_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA08857). ISBN 9790006558209. 33.5 x 25.7 cm inches. Text Language: French. Preface: Sylvie Bouissou. Louis de Cahusac. The opera “Naïs†was premiered on 22 April 1749 at the Acadmie royale in the Palais-Royal, Paris, in celebration of the signing of the so-called Treaty of Aachen. It was revived again in August 1764 shortly before Rameau’s death and achieved great success as the “opera of peace,†even though it did not appear in print during the composer’s lifetime.
In numerous arias Rameau provides his singers ample opportunity to shine, while he reveals his orchestral mastery, in particular in the chaconne and the various other ballets.
The work appears here for the first time in a vocal score with a keyboard reduction. The reduction is by François Saint-Yves on the basis of the new critical edition by Pascal Dencheau which is part of Opera Omnia Rameau edited by Sylvie Bouissou.
This edition is the result of a meticulous comparison of all known musical sources. In the main section, it presents the version that Rameau approved for the performances of 1749. The appendix contains those passages that the composer cut during the rehearsals in 1749 and all changes that he undertook for the 1764 revival.

Chamber Music Clarinet Trio SKU: PR.114424090 Composed by Igor Stravinsky. Arranged by Gregory Barrett. Set of Score and Parts. 8+16 pages. Duration 5 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-42409. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114424090). ISBN 9781491137383. UPC: 680160690107. Stravinsky’s 1918 Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet has long been savored by clarinetists as a rare gem in the instrument’s repertory, full of rhythmic drive and Stravinsky’s jazzy neo-classicism. Composer and clarinetist Gregory M. Barrett’s remarkable adaptation for 3 clarinets is a tour de force, assimilating Stravinsky’s harmonic, rhythmic, and contrapuntal style to create a striking addition to the clarinet literature. Igor Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet (1918) is a core work in clarinetists’ repertoire, and I havereimagined it for the convivial grouping of three players. The arrangement contains all of Stravinsky’soriginal, but now his solo line is shared among three in a new matrix of harmony, imitation, andcounterpoint. The molto tranquillo first piece develops from the emphasized C# in Stravinsky’s first measure andmoves to a somewhat somber mood when C# is revealed to be the dominant of F# minor. Withincreasing expansion of tessitura in the sustained harmonies, the sun comes out in the last phrase with ajoyous Eb major chord. The circus-like second piece finds the three clarinets whirling in the air in synchronized trapeze artiststyle. The emphasis is on imitation and fluid hand-offs. Chords with major 7ths and 2nds contrast withtriadic harmony. Following the cat and mouse middle section, where dancing patterns of twos andthrees alternate, the summit of the big top is reached again just before the players settle down to earthwith a welcome C major chord of respite. The ragtime burlesque of Stravinsky’s third piece is heightened by homophonic rhythm among the threeplayers. Each clarinet part has its own specialty. Clarinet 1 loves 32nd notes, Clarinet 2 shows off with fasttriplets, and Clarinet 3 likes the low notes and in general supporting its friends. Quartal harmony withstacked 4ths is emphasized, but where Stravinsky’s melody suggests triads, I have taken his hint. Thepropulsive rhythms are truly exciting, and with the wink of an eye, the music ends all too soon. $24.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock
