Kleine Credomesse. Par MOZART WOLFGANG AMADEUS. Im Sommer 1774 schrieb Mozart in unmittelbarer zeitlicher Nachbarschaft zwei Messen, die Missa brevis in F KV 192 und die Missa brevis in D KV 194. Beiden Kompositionen eigen ist eine jeweils mehr oder weniger stark ausgeprägte Neigung zur kontrapunktischen Schreibweise. I 1985 udkom Gabriel og Maria - 7 sange til jul for kor og rytmegruppe.Det var nyt på den tid at skrive kormusik - oven i købet til kirkelige tekster - der skulle akkompagneres af jazz/rock-musikere og hvor korsangerne skulle udfolde sig i stilarter som bossa samba og jazzvals. Men sangene blev hurtigt populære og allerede i de første år efter udgivelsen blev deen fast del af mange kors julerepertoire både herhjemme og i Skandinavien (i en svensk-sproget udgave) - ja helt til USA kom de (i en engelsk-sproget udgave).Tæt på 25 års jubilæet er det nu tid til en revideret ny-udgivelse.Selve sangene er der ikke lavet om på - men storformen er ændret således at værket nu fremstår som et lille juleoratorium med recitationer og orgel-mellemspil. En enkel ny sats er kommet til: Lovsangen Stjerner og vinde og skyer og de instrumentale mellemspil (soli for fløjte/sax piano eller bas) er udbygget på forskellig måde. Normalt er det instrumenterne der akkompagnerer koret. Men i de instrumentale mellemspil er rollerne byttet om. Nu er det koret der med riffs scatsang og forskellige akkordbaserede figurer 'akkompagnerer' de improviserende solister.Fløjten vil - med passende oktaveringer - kunne erstattes af saxofon (sopran og/eller alt). Det forudsætter dog at saxofonisten er i stand til - også - at spille med smuk 'klassisk' klang. The Missa K.257 bears the non-authentic dating 1776 and was presumably composed at the end of 1776 or in the first half of 1777. Like K.262 (246a) it is designated in Leopold Mozart?s handwriting as a Missa longa on the cover page of an early composite manuscript containing the five masses in C major. K.257 is listed there as the last work. The designation ?Missa longa? was intended to point out that this was an extensive full-scale mass. Normally it would have been called a Missa solemnis but Mozart for unknown reasons did not make use of this customary nomenclature.The name ?Credo Mass? is taken from the acclamations of ?Credo? that constantly interrupt thelike-named movement. The Mass is remarkable for its density of invention within the narrowest of confines. Following the publication of Francis Jackson's organ reduction of Finzi's Requiem da Camera in 2014, Robert Gower, chairman of the Finzi Trust, recitalist and organist of Nottingham Cathedral, has created reductions of the full orchestra accompaniments to two more of Finzi's choral works. These reductions broaden the reach of these works to choirs which do not wish to present the works with orchestra, as with other standards from the sacred repertoire such the Requiems of Fauré and Duruflé. The reductions sympathetically recreate the orchestra scoring for a three-manual organ. Ingeniously, the manual couplings (II to III, II and III to I) are unaltered throughout, with pedal coupled to manuals as appropriate. Detailed registrations are not indicated as these are best left to the performer, taking into account the unique circumstances of the particular instrument, size of choir and acoustic setting at each performance. The scores are user-friendly, in landscape format and with at least one principal vocal line cued throughout, and a cappella choral passages are reproduced in full. The reductions are fully compatible with the published piano vocal scores of the respective works which the singers will use. For St Cecilia, Ceremonial Ode for tenor solo, chorus and orchestra - words by Edmund Blunden. The original work was commissioned by the St Cecilia's Day Festival Committee for the 1947 celebration of music's patron saint. The ceremonial mood is established with fanfares, and the sonorous sweep of the choral writing reflects Finzi's admiration for Parry and Elgar. The 'catalogue' of saints, shared between the soloist and chorus, are deftly delineated: St Valentine, St George, St Dunstan, St Swithin and St Cecilia herself. In rapt stillness, the English composers of the past - Merbecke, Byrd, Dowland and Purcell - are summoned. It was first performed by the choir of Eton College directed by Ralph Allwood. This motet intends to capture the anguish of Jesus’ final moments on the cross. The opening bars attempt to convey the horrific pain sorrow and tragedy that these words and the climactic moment of Christ's crucifixion mean to Christians worldwide. It is also a human sentiment echoed every day by the needy regardless of their religious views. Thepiece ends with a repetition of the opening phrase followed by a blossoming 'Amen'. This expressive conclusion hints at a glimmer of hope although the final chord is left unresolved; resolution though suggested is not obtained.

An original and exciting collection of anthems and other choral pieces written for the Orthodox Church and inspired by the Church in Russia selected by Ralph Allwood. Partly because of the re-emergence of the Church in the former Soviet Union interest in Christian musical sources alternative to the great body of the Anglican and other Western Christian traditions has grown sharply in recent years. Though the works presented here may be unfamiliar they are all masterly. The Maccabaean Revolt in the second century B.C. provided the background to the story that unfolds in Judas Maccabaeus. It is part of the history of the Ptolemaic and Seleucid Empires. This oratorio follows the story from the death of Alexander the Great in 323 B.C. up until Judas' march on Jerusalem in 164 B.C. With a libretto supplied by Thomas Morell Handel's great work was first performed at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden on April the 1st 1747 as part of his annual Lenten season of oratorios. By the time of Handel's death in 1759 Judas Maccabaeus had become the composer's second most popular oratorio having received 33 Londonperformances under the composer's supervision (Messiah had 36).For SATB soli SATB chorus and accompaniment. More than 30 artistic postcard-sized works were written by the composer.
