With reference to the melody used to write the Fanstasia-Concerto, the composer Jordi Cervello says: A few years ago, a friend of mine, Jorge Wagensberg sang me a beautiful old Jewish melody inspired by the hymn Leja Dodi (Come, my beloved) by the Sefardie cabbalist Solomon Alkabez (1505-1576), who is buried in Israel. I was immediately entranced by its two extensive thematic ideas which complement each other perfectly. Its melodic and folk qualities seemed to me to make it an ideal theme for a work for guitar and orchestra. The orchestration is a fine thread of metallic timbres, which are present both in the very delicate subtleties of the pianissimi passages and the brilliant tutti. Moreover, the cler tonal definition of the melody contrasts with audacious harmonic contrapunctual textures, characteristic of the most advanced musical styles of our times. The solo guitar part is a model piece of compositon for the guitar, both for its melody and harmony. It puts forward extremely original formulas which are very effective from an instrumental point of view. Its abundant use of arpeggios, chords, harmonic pedals and other instrumental resources ensure that the dialogue with the orchestra is based completely on guitar-playing techniques, putting the guitarist's expressive skill and mastery to the test. This work was first performed on December 3 1997 in Sabadell's La Farandula Theatre performed by the Valles Symphonic Orchestra conducted by its permanent conductor Salvador Brotons. The guitar solo part was played by Jaume Torrent, to whom the work is dedicated.

En relacion al origen de la melodia utilizada en este Concierto-Fantasia, el compositor Jordi Cervello comenta: Hace ya algunos anos, mi amigo Jorge Wagensberg me canto una antigua y deliciosa melodia judia compuesta sobre el himno Leja Dodi (Ven mi bien amada) del cabalista sefardi Solomon Alkabez (1505-1576), cuya tumba se encuentra en Israel. En seguida me cautivo por las dos amplias ideas tematicas que contiene, las cuales se complementan muy armoniosamente. Por sus caracteristicas melodicas y por su caracter popular me parecio un tema ideal para una obra de guitarra y orquesta. La orquestacion de este concierto es una filigrana de sugerencias timbricas, presentes tanto en las mas delicadas sutilezas de los pianissimi como en los efusivos tutti. Asimismo, la clara definicion tonal de la melodia contrasta con audaces texturas armonicas y contrapuntisticas propias de la estetica musical de nuestros dias. La parte del instrumento solista en un modelo de escritura guitarristica, tanto desde el punto de vista melodico como del armonico y propone formulas que resultan de una gran originalidad y eficacia instrumental. La prodigalidad de arpegios, acordes, pedales armonicos y otros recursos instrumentales, garantizan un dialogo con la orquesta desde un lenguaje plenamente guitarristico, a traves del cual, el interprete pone a prueba tanto su capacidad expresiva como la vituosistica. El estreno de esta obra tuvo lugar el dia 3 de octubre de 1997 en el Teatro La Farandula de Sabadell, interpretada por la Orquesta Sinfonica del Valles bajo la direccion de su director titular Salvador Brotons, y actuando como solista el guitarrista Jaume Torrent a quien esta dedicada la obra.

The music of the Caribbean is a mixture of styles encompassing traditions that reflect the nature of its many islands and ethnic groups which inherited a multitude of rhythms imported by slaves from West Africa. Europeans brought with them Western-style melodies and harmonies, still used today in Trinidadian calypso, a traditional folk genre which gained worldwide popularity thanks to internationally famous artists such as the American singer Harry Belafonte (Calypso, Island in the Sun, Day-O/Banana Boat Song). Fascinated by this music which embodies the very spirit of exoticism, Roland Kernen composed Caribbean Calypso, a composition with softly swaying rhythms which followa gentle and subtle melodic line in a rum and cigar-flavoured atmosphere.

Caribische muziek kent talrijke ritmes die zijn meegenomen door slaven uit West-Afrika. De Europeanen brachten westerse melodieën en harmonieën in, die vandaag de dag nog steeds worden gebruikt in de calypso uit Trinidad, een genredat wereldwijd populair werd dankzij beroemde artiesten als Harry Belafonte (Island in the Sun, Day-O/Banana Boat Song). This delightful new composition takes its inspiration from the classic French swash buckling tale of Cyrano de Bergerac and his fight to win the love of the beautiful maiden Roxane. The subject was a perfect departure point for composing a symphonic poem with a variety of musical aspects reflecting the story. Lyricism (the theme of Roxane), dramatic episodes, as well as Debussy-inspired impressionist moments are some of the elements that give the band and its conductor the chance to expose themselves as a versatile ensemble being able to create colour, to sing and to play like virtuosi. This work is sure to become a standard item in the concert band repertoire.

In Cyrano verklankt de componist Piet Swerts het romantische en tragische verhaal van de briljante dichter en zwaardkunstenaar Cyrano de Bergerac en zijn mooie, intellectuele nicht Roxane, op wie hij tot over zijn oren verliefdis. Zijn uiterlijk, met name zijn buitengewoon grote neus, belet hem om zijn gevoelens tegenover haar te uiten. De vele verwikkelingen die uit deze situatie voortkomen zijn te herkennen in deze programmatische compositie.

Piet Swerts erzahlt hier musikalisch die tragisch-romantische Geschichte von Cyrano de Bergerac, der einem verliebten Freund hilft, seine Liebe zu erobern und sich dann selbst unglucklich in dessen Angebetete verliebt. Diese Komposition spiegelt die Geschichte mit einer Vielfalt an musikalischen Aspekten eindrucksvoll wider. Lyrik, dramatische Episoden sowie von Debussy inspirierte, impressionistische Momente sind einige der Elemente, die dem Blasorchester und seinem Dirigenten die Chance bieten, sich als vielseitiges Ensemble, das zugleich Farben entfalten, singen und virtuos spielen kann, zu prasentieren.

Cyrano, heros tragique et attachant, est entre dans le patrimoine universel, sans doute parce qu'il incarne superbement un mythe bien ancien : celui de l'amour et du bonheur impossibles. Ce delicieux chef-d'œuvre theatral d'Edmond Rostand a inspire ce poeme symphonique de Piet Swerts qui s'articule autour d'une grande diversite musicale exprimant differentes scenes de la piece. Passages lyriques, episodes dramatiques et moments impressionnistes, Cyrano comprend de nombreux ingredients qui permettent au chef et a sa formation d'exploiter leur polyvalence a travers lacouleur, le chant et le jeu virtuose.

This work was composed as ceremonial music, as part of a march medley for the participants’ entry for the 71st National Sports Festival and the 16th National Disabled Personnel Sports Festival, held in Iwate Prefecture in 2016. The European premiere of this piece took place in December of that year, the composer guest conducting the Young Musicians from Fribourg, Switzerland. This work, fusing Japanese folk song with march music, will have wide appeal, like the sister work March-Bou-Shu, also published by de Haske Publications.

Dit werk is gecomponeerd als ceremoniële muziek: het maakte deel uit van een marsenmedley voor de binnenkomst van deelnemers aan het 71e Nationale Sportfestival en het 16e Nationale Sportfestival voor Gehandicapten, gehouden in de prefectuur Iwate, in 2016. Deze combinatie van Japanse volksmuziek met marsmuziek zal veel muzikanten en luisteraars aanspreken, net als het zusterwerk March-Bou-Shu, dat ook door de Haske Publications bv werd uitgegeven.

Dieses Werk wurde 2016 anlässlich eines großen Sportfestes in Japan komponiert und war Teil eines Marsch-Medleys für den Einmarsch der Teilnehmer. Questo brano è stato composto nello stile di una musica cerimoniale, come parte di un medley di marce per accompagnare l’entrata dei partecipanti al 71° National Sports Festival e al 16° National Disabled Personnel Sports Festival nella Prefettura di Iwate in Giappone nel 2016. La prima europea della composizione si è tenuta nel dicembre dello stesso anno a Friburgo (Svizzera), sotto la direzione del compositore stesso. Der zeitgenössische litauische Komponist Kazys Daugėla schrieb IFestive Rock für den litauischen Nationalfeiertag im Jahre 2003. Damals bildete das Konzert, das zwei Blasorchester bestritten, eine strahlende Untermalung des Feuerwerks am Ende der Festlichkeiten. Nach dieser fulminanten Uraufführung entwickelte sich die Komposition zu einem beliebten Blasorchesterwerk, das auch Ihr Repertoire bereichern wird!

This is an ancient Welsh air that was first published in Relics of the Welsh Bards in 1794. Dafydd (David) Owain was a famous Welsh bard who lived on a farm called Gareg Wen (The White Rock) in Eifionydd, Carnarnvonshire, North Wales. Tradition has it that on his deathbed he called for his harp and composed this lovely melody, requesting that it be played at his funeral. Accordingly, it was later played at the parish church of Ynys-Cynhaiarn. Lyrics were later added by Ceiriog Hughes, which describe the melody's inspiration. This version for concert band retains all the beauty and simplicity of the original.

Deze oude melodie uit Wales werd in 1794 voor het eerst uitgegeven in Relics of the Welsh Bards. Dafydd (David) Owain was een beroemde bard uit Wales, hij woonde op een boerderij genaamd Gareg Wen (De witte rots) te Eifionyddin Carnarnvonshire, in Noord-Wales.
