Composé entre 1830 et 1831, ce Nocturne en mi bémol majeur de Frédéric Chopin est le morceau favori de tous les jeunes pianistes. En 1850, Franz Liszt a écrit trois nocturnes. Il imagine le piano comme un lieder pour voix de ténor. D'une immense douceur, le célèbre rêve d'amour est indissociable des deux autres nocturnes. Apprécié unanimement par un auditoire très divers, ce nocturne est en la bémol majeur. Sa célébrité est née de son lyrisme mélodique et d'un fertile mélange d'harmonies et de modulations. La déclamation de la partie centrale suivie par l'épisode en récitatif, sur un ton larmoyant, ensorcelle et fascine à la fois.
Bien que la pièce soit secondaire dans le répertoire de Liszt, elle se dévoile par son côté élégiaque, fruit de la plus pénétrante inspiration du compositeur.

Written in honor of the Béla Bartók centennial, MUSIQUE NOCTURNES is inspired by one of his most characteristic and original works, the fourth piece (by the same title), from the suite Out of Doors. Both pieces feature overlapping “night musics” – atmospheric cluster figures, sharply contrasting motifs suggesting nocturnal bird, frog, or insect sounds, and an element of human, folksong-like melody as Levinson alludes to the authentic Hungarian folksong, “Tiszán innen, Dunán túl.”.
This simple piece was written in 2015 as a birthday present for the composer’s wife, poet and fellow bird lover Nanine Valen, and is a distant sequel to Canons and Chorale, which he wrote for her in 1969. The ornithological character is an affectionate tribute as well to his teacher Olivier Messiaen. The titular birds are a highly stylized chickadee and two song sparrows.First public performance: Swarthmore College, November 13, 2016, by Marcantonio Barone, whose editorial assistance in the preparation of this edition is gratefully acknowledged. A commission by 13 individual pianists, Pure Contraption, Absolute Gift is a suite of five movements, which Primosch describes in depth on his blog, Secret Geometry. While the first movement is contained primarily to the bass clef, the second is in the treble. The suite, however, as an entirety, makes full use of the entire range of the keyboard. For advanced pianists. The piece is ferociously difficult...Both the first prelude, with its nervous thumping and banging, and 'A Gracious Dance,' Debussy a century later, ended in question marks. The 'Gigue-Scherzo' seemed more of a 'Scherzo-Gigue'; 'Nocturnal Obsessions,' with its moody left-hand ostinatos, lived up to its title.
